Two episodes in and it's brilliant. Hasn't been anything this good on Netflix since Ripley

OP posts:
cupcaske123 · 29/08/2024 16:30

I read a review about this today and it looks great. I love Jeff Goldblum.

fallingleavesandhairyknees · 29/08/2024 16:31

Oh, I've been waiting for this to start.
Just about to finish the last episodes of season 2 of interview with the vampire and then will start with KAOS.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/08/2024 19:55

YES! Goldblum is a god.
See you on the other side OP.
Is this a binge watch thread or a talk-as-you-go thread?
Spoilers or non-spoilers?
Am very excited Grin

ReadWithScepticism · 29/08/2024 20:06

I'm two episodes in, too. Loving Jeff Goldblum of course, and also Nabhaan Rizwan who I always thought was divine even before he became a god.

Definitely the first good best thing on Netflix for ages

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/08/2024 20:12

I didn't know Nabhaan Rizwan but oh my, he is fine. He's also only 27, which is half my age and therefore young enough to be my son. <quickly goes back to impure thoughts of Jeff instead>
One can admire the beauty though, objectively speaking <consults Germaine. She says yes. I wrote a book about it> Wink

theonetowatchagain · 29/08/2024 20:17

I couldn't get into this at all unfortunately

Crinkle77 · 29/08/2024 21:32

Another one whose struggling to get in to it. Only watched first episode since might give it another chance.

Conniethecatapillar · 29/08/2024 22:44

I am quite enjoying it, having to look up every single greek god as I have no idea about any of them!

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/08/2024 22:55

Ah, I am now two episodes in. I really ought to stop now. I go back to work next week and have heaps to do but it's great so far (nice visuals, good sfx, great cast, excellent soundtrack). I am watching with subtitles and taking notes like a geek, so I can see what they used and what they changed from the myths.

Like Zeus ‘It’s foolish to mask your age. Accept it. Present it’: Jeff Goldblum on vanity, mortality and becoming a father in his 60s | Jeff Goldblum | The Guardian
Hera - so evil ‘I only play goddesses now’: Janet McTeer on starring in ‘Succession with gods’ drama Kaos | Television | The Guardian
Lachesis - Izzard is still charismatic for parts like this
And a shout out to Charon (Ferdy from This Life. Ramon Tikaram - Still got it!)

partystress · 29/08/2024 23:00

Also two episodes in and completely hooked. Dionysus is indeed easy on the eye and Stephen Dillane is just perfectly cast. Not long back from Malaga and Seville, so enjoying location spotting too!

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 00:01

His narration (Dillane as Prometheus) works very well.

Indiaplain · 30/08/2024 07:53

Would this be suitable to watch with young teens? My DS is 13..

partystress · 30/08/2024 09:08

@Indiaplain two episodes in, there have been two sex scenes, one straight, one with two male characters. A couple of f words I think. So depends on your 13yo. Think IMDB would probably have a parental advisory on it.

Hoppinggreen · 30/08/2024 10:29

Also 2 episodes in as trying not to binge.
Really enjoying it so far. I love Greek Mythology so its interesting spotting the characters etc

Meadowwild · 30/08/2024 10:33

theonetowatchagain · 29/08/2024 20:17

I couldn't get into this at all unfortunately

Nor could I. It was like a really shit wooden-scripted version of Succession with Greek names and no swearing.

And Jeff, who used to be the sexiest man alive, has these blubbery lips now. And his eyes are way too gentle to convince me he is the selfish conniving God-boss he's playing.

It's true Dionysus is inhumanly good looking but young enough to be my son which is like appreciating the beauty of a kitten.

Billy Piper was great imo - she's the best at irritating vulnerable insanity roles. Though it was a bit I Hate Suzy with extra kohl. The scene with the Tacita mother was good. And I though Orpheus did a brillant send up of Coldplay at his gig. But the script! That's the third or fourth thing in a row I have seen where the actors are brilliant and the scripts are dire. Were these written by interns during the writers' strike last year?

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 12:40

Well, that was very good indeed. Binged the lot. No regrets.
Jeff plays spoiled, entitled, capricious man-child very well.
I liked all the cast - spent ages thinking where do I know Ari from. She was of course from I hate Suzie (Leila Farzad).

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 12:46

Indiaplain · 30/08/2024 07:53

Would this be suitable to watch with young teens? My DS is 13..

Mine would handle it. There is comic-book style violence (Zeus shooting people like clay pigeons and a grisly fight to the death between a Trojan and an Amazonian) and a couple of scenes of sodomy/one scene of cunnilingus.
Two suicides and at least three scenes of stabbing.
Prometheus having his liver pecked out all the time is a bit grim.

sweatervest · 30/08/2024 15:17

i love it.
jeff goldblum did interviews about it on the one show and this morning and he was so nice and the interviews were a hoot. he was literally bff with sian welby by the end of the this morning interview and he was just a really nice man.

i think kaos is very graphic and i'm surprised it's only a 15 and not an 18 tbh.

Terrribletwos · 30/08/2024 15:20

Absolutely love Jeff Goldblum, think he's a great actor but after about 20 mins bowed out, it was just too cheesy.

Think his tremendous talent is really wasted on this shite.

meltedchocolateandstrawberries · 30/08/2024 16:50

So I just woke up from a nap (pregnant, so tired😳) and my nearly 6 yo was halfway through the second episode of this. He didn't seem bothered or disturbed by it, would he have seen anything bad in those first two episodes? He's never once chosen our profile on Netflix to watch, he always just goes straight to kids.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 17:14

Depends on how much he was taking in.
Episode one is mainly exposition. 1 sacrificial death (not focused on)
A few fucks with a police scene. One shooting but no blood.
Episode two. There is a quick kill with a crossbow/arrow right at the start.
One glimpse of Medusa's snake and a swear (fucking)
One sex scene. One neck snapped but you don't see it.
Prometheus's liver is pecked by birds.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 17:16

I think you might be okay - at least it's not like mine who crept downstairs and hid behind a sofa while I was watching...Zombieland. If that makes you feel any better! Brew Cake

meltedchocolateandstrawberries · 30/08/2024 17:24

Thanks for replying @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos he should be alright then😬I'll wait and see if he mentions anything. Omg zombieland 🤣🤣kids eh?!

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 30/08/2024 17:54

She's an adult now. She remembers it in the same way I remember Donald Sutherland in Invasion of the Body Snatchers or the blood scene in Carrie.
The difference being those were designated Family films watched together with and chosen by my father (wtf!) whereas she'd snuck down. I remember seeing part of The Hand when I was skulking on the staircase as a child.
DD had a few zombie nightmares. She then went on to become a huge fan of The Walking Dead and made me watch The Last of Us last year, so long term not scarred for life. Her favourite season is Halloween and she once wore those freaky white contact lenses so if anything she's embraced it. Grin inceptioned
