Is anyone watching?

I'm just halfway through the first episode and was dying to discuss it!

These participants are not what I was expecting at all. They actually sound a lot more interesting than most reality TV fodder.

OP posts:
Tarkan · 16/08/2024 19:19

I'm sure it was mentioned quickly that she lives in the Philippines but when Bobby and Jasmine said they would maybe go abroad she was like "but what about family" so what was a tad confusing.

I do feel for Jasmine. I've got some issues with my mum and it has affected relationships in the past but I feel like their issues are a billion times worse than mine. Her mum is very controlling, I understand wanting to protect your kids but you also have to let them go and live their lives once they're adults too. I think she could be enough to put Bobby off.

Tarkan · 16/08/2024 19:19

Actually I think it was the wedding dress part. Emma said "you've just flown in from the Philippines".

Hm I wonder if she was in Philippines to visit family.

Sam was so out of line talking about how Nicole had wanted to sleep with him. He really saw that as major point scoring. She was very dignified in how she dealt with it.

As for Jasmine's mother, wow. I'm surprised Jasmine seems normal having grown up with that level of intensity and interfering.

I dont believe for one second that she wanted to sleep with Sam. She was repulsed by him.
Her and Ben weren't rushing that side of things even though they really fancy each other.
The only reason that she might have mentioned sleeping with him was to test whether there was any reason at all to keep putting effort in. But i highly doubt it.

Tarkan · 16/08/2024 20:01

Oh that's possible @Monkeysatonthewall

If she lives there that's different to visiting and I assumed it was her living there.

When Jasmine described her mum as being like "FBI", I'm not going to lie, I laughed. I've been like that with friends' new partners to check them out. But in person I'm nothing like her mum is. She's intimidating and scary and tbh comes across as very controlling.

RedRobyn2021 · 16/08/2024 20:16

@Twonewcats

Totally agree her body language says yuuuuck

RedRobyn2021 · 16/08/2024 20:23

Natasha going on about what an amazing person Tom is

I'm trying to figure out why the heck she thinks that

Monkeysatonthewall · 16/08/2024 17:54

Hahaha 😂

I don't have the luxury of watching LIB peacefully and can only do it while multitasking so seem to have missed a lot of the stuff mentioned on here 😱

I've been watching quite closely, and I haven't seen any of the alarming things pp have accused Tom of, aside from him seeming a bit taken aback on meeting Tash, and maybe second guessing himself.

There are makeup artists and makeup artists (if she was a good one, she would not have layered on transferable red lipstick before meeting him!), and like Freddie the funeral director who doesn't want to be taken for a ride and left fleeced, Tom does not want to be the sole provider to a woman - which I think is perfectly reasonable. He's not guessing that that's where this is heading, Maria has proudly told him this is how it ought to be.

I don't mind his eating habits, at least he is talking to her like a normal person. Some of them are too self-aware when they talk and it's all so arch.

mydogisthebest · 17/08/2024 08:10

Maria says that her religion says the man pays for everything even an icecream! So does her religion allow couples to live together before marriage?

It's all weird. She's all touchy feely with him then says her culture doesn't allow PDA. She seems to pick and choose what parts she embraces.
Also, she wants the man to pay for everything but then said she didn't want to move in with Tom as she'd be paying his mortgage with nothing to show for it if they split. So, again, happy for him to pay for everything when they're out, but she wants equality with the mortgage situation

Rollergirl11 · 17/08/2024 09:09

Not completely up to date yet but I’m getting the rage over Catherine who is really rather unpleasant. She wants him to traipse around after her when she’s shopping but gets arsey with him if he makes any comments. She’s constantly making digs at him. And the way she behaved at the party, flirting with Sam to punish Freddie for saying another woman was attractive. Ugh, she’s vile. You can see it’s getting Freddie down but he’s too polite to tell her.

burnoutbabe · 17/08/2024 09:21

So I have watched all 9 here are my predictions

Sabrina and Steven -100% yes -will be shown first as zero doubts either side

Ollie and deema -probably a no.

Freddie and Catherine -hopefully no if he has any sense.

Tom and Maria -same -hopefully he says no

Ben and nicole -overall yes, both are just sensible people who think things through but overall suit and no red flags.

oh bobby and jasmine. probable yes. they seem bland snd pretty together.

Lampzade · 17/08/2024 09:32

If Bobby knows what is good for him, he should not marry Jasmine.
Jasmine is lovely …. her mother is a pain in the arse

Ollie and Demi give BFF vibes. She is good for him, but he is not good for her.
He likes her a lot but does not fancy her. She is a very pretty young lady

Freddie and Catherine.. a disaster in the making . She seems like hard work

Tom and Maria.. on different pages. Unlikely to work

Ben and Nicole… I think they could work. However, I think that his nomadic lifestyle would be a problem

Sabrina and Stephen.. think they are well suited

GreenPoppy · 17/08/2024 09:34

I was a bit baffled about the whole Maria mortgage thing. If they want to live together she either 'pays his mortgage' or they both rent somewhere. Either way she is going to be paying something. They are hardly going to jump to a joint mortgage at this stage.

Is she expecting to just move in and not pay anything?

Rollergirl11 · 17/08/2024 09:51

I might be in the minority here but I find Ben being insistent that Nicole MUST hate Sam a teeny bit controlling. She was explaining to Ben very calmly that she literally doesn’t care about Sam enough to give a shit about anything he says and doesn’t want to waste any head space on him. But that doesn’t seem to be enough for him. He just seems to care about it all a bit too much whereas he should be taking his lead from Nicole.

I agree tbh
He appears to be quite intense .

BookW1tch · 17/08/2024 10:11

I agree too. There was a big difference in how Freddie dealt with Catherine and her issues with Ollie - “I support you in whatever you choose to do, go and talk to him if it helps you with closure” etc. Whereas Benaiah started sulking and pleading when Nicole mentioned she was going to see Sam to return the gifts. I’m not sure if he would be quite controlling in their marriage.

Rollergirl11 · 17/08/2024 10:46

I feel like because he thinks he had the measure of Sam and warned Nicole about him and things went the way they did, that he is automatically in the right about Sam and Nicole is automatically naive and has her blinkers on. But ultimately she was the one in a relationship with him and it’s up to her how she wishes to move on from it.

Monkeysatonthewall · 17/08/2024 10:54

mydogisthebest · 17/08/2024 08:10

Maria says that her religion says the man pays for everything even an icecream! So does her religion allow couples to live together before marriage?

It's quite selective isn't it. She's cherry picking what suits her.

Monkeysatonthewall · 17/08/2024 11:00

With Benaiah, I think he could see through Sam from the get go and is just really frustrated that Nicole doesn't quite realise what a villain Sam is.
Sam must've said something off cameras to suggest he only went on LIB for the fame and Benaiah, being the nice person that he is, is probably struggling seeing Sam not being made accountable for that.

Twonewcats · 17/08/2024 14:22

Cat flirting was beyond frustrating.
Firstly she got annoyed at Freddie saying someone (can't remember who) was attractive. He literally said it once, but she was accusing him of saying it twice, plus "can't you see how that would make me feel?" then trotted off to flirt with Sam, who she said numerous times looked exactly like her ex. She was going on about how she doesn't mean to flirt, but that's how it comes across - while shouting loudly that she'd like to have Sam's engagement ring 🫠

Demi isn’t very attractive I don’t think, she’s quite ordinary looking. However she’s good hearted and is too good for Ollie, simply she will always give him more. It’s been lovely to see her grow in confidence.

Merryoldgoat · 17/08/2024 16:23

I agree @SurpriseOzzy

Demi is lovely but not a ‘stunna’ which is what Ollie is looking for.

She’s too good for him 100%

I don't really get when this happened, the show edited it to make it look like she rejected him immediately after the reveal.

Also I presumed the couples first see each other again after the reveal at the villas in Greece, so do they spend time together before that? It's confused me.

Parrotseatthemall · 17/08/2024 17:12

Sam is as fake as fuck...
