Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can also read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

Why was Kojo in the cafe on his own quite late at night too?
Was that explained?

Shellingbynight · 29/08/2024 08:01

It wasn't explained, unless I missed it. All he said was Kobina wouldn't answer his phone because he was angry.

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 08:07

I do recall Linda's mum being much different to the Elaine character.
Linda was written out for a while to care for her ( I think the actress had a baby in real life) and we saw Linda at her mums pub and mum was really calm and much more ordinary. They have completely changed her character with the new actress , which I know happens a lot on soaps.

Just watched today's episode. I think the George and his brothers story is really boring.

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 11:07

Jack was so horrible to Penny. I know she is self obsessed and all the rest, but Jack is hardly a saint himself and done lots wrong ( she is in a wheelchair because of him too!)
I can understand his anger, but he doesn't know the full facts either.

Agree. But at least one of them has gone and we’ll barely see the other one who’s staying,

I don’t know what’s left now for George in terms of stories. Well, a mundane wedding in November and I suppose he’ll go mad when it inevitably comes out about Cindy and Junior (I’m predicting at Christmas). I think Colin Salmon will leave next year.

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 11:15

The wedding in November is bound to go wrong as weddings do on EE.
Maybe he'll find his son in the vestry with Cindy and it'll kick off amongst the grave stones or something big like that !

Shellingbynight · 29/08/2024 11:19

Yes I think the wedding will probably be ruined by the Cindy/Junior revelation.

I'd like to see George stay on long term but with less drama.

milesmachine · 29/08/2024 13:26

George has sort of become a replacement for Mick since he died.

...someone with a strong sense of family, good moral fibre but rough around the edges... able to calm a situation.

It'd be a shame if he wasn't given something more meaty to get his teeth into.

My favourite was the Aiden storyline with Mick/Phil sort of teaming up to take him down in the end when he tried to take over the pub. Played by the actor who was in sleeping with the enemy whose name I can't remember!

I want to love the storyline with his brothers but I agree it's a bit boring

And I just hate Penny so much even though I know it's not all her fault

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 14:04

Mike's machine
Patrick Bergin played Aiden Maguire and was in 'sleeping with the enemy ' with Julia Roberts in the 90's.
I loved how they teamed up to stop Max and the Wayland company buy the pub that time! A few people have tried to have it turned into flats ( Janine tried once) but it always stays open. It probably would be expensive flats in real life.

milesmachine · 29/08/2024 14:10

@the80sweregreat yes! That's his name. I can never remember it!

I loved that storyline and Phil turning on him at the last minute and physically kicking him through the door in the pub just when you through he'd won against mick.

Classic EE. It's missing that at the moment. Everyone feels very apart with no characters to root for.

Bernie today looked evil and the poor girls lost her brother-but again, lost all sympathy for her.

Any Sonia not even really mentioned this week. I'm sure we'll see her again heavily pregnant when we're all passed caring...

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 14:19

I do feel a bit sorry for Bernie tbh.
She's lost two family members she was fairly close to and both have been murdered.
Her family had to flee abroad and she lost the council flat
She now had to live with her cousin and working minimum wage living hand to mouth and she knows that someone killed Keanu and it wasn't Dean ( as much as he deserves to be in jail!) ..plus people are lying to her to protect themselves.
She isn't going about it rationally , but who would in that kind of situation?
The police might bring charges against her ( maybe ?) for harassment , but they don't seem too competent and Sharon will probs get Phil involved to ' sort er out !'

Just watched today's episode. I think the George and his brothers story is really boring.

It really is so boring. Problem is George isn't much of a personality. Decent man quite friendly but oh so boring compared to characters in the past.
The Producers obv paid a large amount to get the actor a bit like Danny Dyer and want him in as much story lines/eps as possible, but constant bringing in family members that the viewers never get much of a chance to get to know is pointless.
I thought the Adoptive parents were good as they were well established actors and it was a gritty dark story.
I would have prepared it lasted longer before the trial and one parent to stay and then that's it.
But the brothers or just one--( plot device) is hardly needed.
Also can I just say how many bedrooms are there in the Vic??
I don'r normally care about that stuff but OMG how many people in the Pub ??
Elaine almost seems like a bit part at times. She puts up with a lot.

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 16:00

Elaine does put up with loads!
Gina moved out only recently , but ( so far ) there are :
Elaine
Linda
George
Anna
Ollie
Annie
Kojo
Johnny
And the dog living there !
Missed anyone ?
That is a lot of people for a tiny flat with one bathroom.

Southeastdweller · 29/08/2024 16:06

Colin Salmon is wonderful, and the baby farming story was dark and original, but in general I just don't feel invested in George and his backstory, at least not yet. Whereas with Mick, I felt like I 'knew' his character so by the time we found out Shirl was his mum and later on when we found out he'd been sexually abused, those stories were compelling and poignant. Maybe George just needs more time and I agree with @Aquarius1234 that the brothers were brought in to give Colin Salmon something to do.

Anyonecanfallinlove · 29/08/2024 16:15

George seems to have changed since he first arrived, he had a spark, a bit of mystery. Now he is troubled and depressed. I agree that the brothers storyline is so far looking pointless and I dont think they should have added a character with high needs to that family or even at all.
I don't really know where they are going wrong at the moment but it is lacking some of its previous entertainment. Maybe they are trying too many storylines/characters at the same time and therefore not getting one right. They have seemed to tackle quite a lot of scenarios just this year, steroids, ivf, murder, sexual assault and child neglect. Then added quite a few new characters, George's parents, then his brothers, various Mitchells, Britney and her family. Maybe it's all a bit too much

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 16:17

I thought that Cindy Rose would have an affair with George and it would be spiced up that way , but obviously he isn't a player ( although they were arguing before she disappeared in the flashback they did and things were not always great in Marbella and he was a bit of a 'play boy 'as a younger man too )
Have we ever met Junior's mum or know who she is? I'm surprised she hasn't appeared yet

Anyonecanfallinlove · 29/08/2024 16:19

Oh also George's son, Reiss, Debbie and her parents. I'm sure there's others, it's mad. This is the only soap i watch, do other soaps introduce as many new characters?

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 16:20

Been a lot of new characters lately.
It has been a bit haphazard with the stories , but next week is all the trial I think and it seems Sharon is arrested !

Shellingbynight · 29/08/2024 16:28

There really have been a lot of new characters in the past few months. And I'm not sure many of them are working too well! It does feel a bit 'overloaded' at the moment.

Re George, I think part of the problem is Elaine. George and Elaine don’t really gel IMO. And as another poster said she seems like a bit part, she is always on the periphery of storylines. She barely shares any scenes with her own daughter, it was ridiculous the other week when Elaine just stood there looking puzzled as Linda was stretchered into an ambulance. Elaine’s the landlady of the Vic but has never had a storyline!

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 16:30

Elaine is a prop for everyone else.
She is a bit of a lost cause with her own daughter I think , quite detached from her at times. It is bizarre.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/08/2024 19:22

At the end of this episode , The Six came out of their doors and stood there for the Duff Duff lookinhg at each other and Bernie.

Bernie hopefully has ruined Sharons shiney leggings with paint (hopefully she'll throw them in the bin now )

Kobina said he's a Nurse like their Mother . The Panesaar Family Practice has no nurse since SuperSonia was arrested .........

the80sweregreat · 29/08/2024 19:41

How is super Sonia? They have forgotten her this week.

SagaNorensPorche · 29/08/2024 19:48

I'm quite liking bad Bernie.

Bunionbabe · 29/08/2024 20:06

How would George and family care for someone who clearly needs specialist help? They have a pub to run and kids, somewhere to look after.
