Whenever I see Siobhan Finneran I think of her in Rita, Sue and Bob too

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/05/2024 15:03

Soooooooooooooo

Did anyone find the Hare ?

( I did 2nd viewing )

OutOfTheHouse · 12/05/2024 21:55

I’m not sure about the ending of this. The posters on the wall were interesting and made me think it wasn’t the world as we know it.
I just don’t quite understand where they got the clones from.

I think I found it in a 2nd viewing.

I had to go onto "Den of Geek" to see what the Jeff it was about and I'm still none the wiser .

Is there a horror film that has a similar theme ?

(Bit like "Mr King" was on the lines of The Wicker Man)

Edited

Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Stepford Wives have similar ideas

Clawdy · 13/05/2024 08:25

So clever. And such a cast! Really enjoyed it, but yes, I was a bit confused at the end.

Duh · 13/05/2024 08:38

I loved it. They are so creative and even when they ‘swing and miss’ it’s still better than anything else on TV.

My DH bought me the book of scripts and reading them is just wonderful, how they give their characters personality and intent so quickly yet often so subtly is remarkable.

Iamiams · 13/05/2024 17:15

The whole thing only clicked for me when they did the catchphrase:
See it. Say it. Sorted.

So those that saw it and wouldn’t say it were ‘sorted’ so next time they would.

The ‘baddies’ gave them a couple of chances to pick a side.

I liked the part where they said they particularly liked the nurse’s way of going about it. Quiet and everyone assumes she will side differently.

Sweetandsaltyburn · 13/05/2024 17:21

I thought it was going to be set in the past at first - the carriage and adverts in it looked old fashioned, and noone had a smartphone. But then there was a covid reference. All seemed a bit incongerous but otherwise it was clever and very well acted.

spiderlight · 13/05/2024 17:30

I loved it but I forgot to look for the hare. We're going to watch the entire lot again with teen DS once this series is finished and I'm determined to find the hare in each one.

Explain this to me again..I can't quite get why Mark bonnars character wasn't turned into a clone as he was very disruptive

I thought that too. I expected it to be 1980s to start with, given the headphones.

Because the powers that be (led by Matthew from Game For A Laugh actor and the ‘militant’ character) were testing everyone in the carriage to comply and obey to authority. He was acting very suspiciously and fitted a stereotype (clever writing) so those that still wouldn’t have followed the ‘see it, say it’ message were replaced by clones that would. A bit like Stepford Wives.

The types that obeyed were: angry authoritarian, in it for themselves, and quiet kind but stick to rules. The gassers were delighted by the nurse as they said something like she was most effective.

Bit like conservative voting in an election I think - you always think who’s voting Conservative and it’s the quiet ones that bump their vote up 😂.

edit: the husband obviously knew what was happening and wanted a compliant wife but that was a bit at odds with the zombie wife because he shouldn’t have been so self aware.

There's the bit where she says something like "What happened to you Gerry , before you'd have been out there waving your banner fighting for what is right" and you realise he's been 'swapped' .

garlicandsapphires · 13/05/2024 22:29

What's the significance of the hare? I thought the number 9 appears in every episode in some way, but was cooking dinner and wasn't paying attention so didn't see it this time. Definitely going to watch again.
It's always a perfect balance of funny and dark (the sardines one and the twin one come to mind)

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/05/2024 22:31

Just caught up with this. I had no idea Matthew Kelly was leading this along with conspiracy theory man.

Yes. But it shows the zombie doubles become self aware over time or that he’s seen it happen.

crochetmonkey74 · 13/05/2024 22:48

Ah got it, they want people who will comply with the general status quo (types of people are the enemy of decent people) and anyone who exposes that as unfair are the disruptors. Got it, I couldn't quite make it click in my head so thank you! I also hadn't got that Matthew kelly was so key

spiderlight · 13/05/2024 23:05

@ggarlicandsapphires they hide a hare in every episode, just for their own amusement, and I always forget to look!

Saucery · 14/05/2024 06:56

The clones probably become more self aware over time but as long as they use that awareness to preserve the status quo then they are left alone.

That Inside Number 9 episode storyline living inside my head too 😂. They make you think don’t they!

Steve Pemberton has been my secret crush for years but after seeing him in drag, Steve I fear we can never be. 💔
He and Reece Shearsmith are geniuses.

To be fair, Steve often sports a bit of make up in LOG. As a PP said, Wilma definitely morphed into Pauline a bit at times.

Reece is my lifelong crush. Even with make up on. I actually think he looks rather good as a 'woman' (particularly Mrs Levisham)

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/05/2024 10:17

That should have been Mrs Levinson

Me too @RainbowZebraWarrior . The only character of his that puts me off is Papa Lazarou

Gosh, yes. I could have gotten on board with the long leather coat and the swagger, maybe. The rest of the character, though; WFT were they thinking?
