Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

new trailer for part 2 out today. looks good

Chrysanthemum5 · 03/06/2024 19:49

And I'm pleased to see Colin continues his plan of removing his shirt at every opportunity

Scorchio84 · 04/06/2024 09:03

@Chrysanthemum5 I've been bereft since Simon disappeared, the shirt removing was Oscar worthy

I have been wondering for a while if they'd do that. To be honest, at this stage I'd be surprised if they didn't. My main worry is that they'll do it with Benedict, who I find hot AF and would quite like to see getting it on with a bird. But I'm sure they'll make it work, whether it's him or another sibling. I have 100% blind faith in the people running this show.

I don’t know. It’s not like you could live openly in those times so where would the happy ending be? Whoever it was would have to live the life in secret or be shamed by society etc., which is hardly the fluffy romance that Bridgerton is meant to be.

Karmaisagod · 04/06/2024 16:52

I think we're going to suffer a lot in the second part! I already found Pen's many humiliations agonising to watch. But I'm sure if a happy ending. 😊

FiloPasty · 04/06/2024 18:29

I’m excited although I’ve realised I’m volunteering on the 13th so it will be an agonising wait to rush home and binge.

Butchyrestingface · 04/06/2024 19:27

I want Benedict to hurry up and get naked. I quite fancy him. 😍

Although I'm sure all 3 brothers must be riddled with venereal disease.

xsquared · 04/06/2024 20:49

Luke Newton reminds me of Will Poulter.

Quite a few of the cast members can sing very well. There's a video of the three older Bridgerton brothers singing "I can't help falling in love" in harmony.

I think I might be a little over invested in this season's Bridgerton!

Hopefully, Penelope gets a happy ending. She's had too many moments of humiliation.

So I just watched season 1 and 2 again and didnt enjoy them as much as when I first saw them. I didnt think the young Lady Hastings was that pretty her hair was so flat, Lady Violet should have told her about sex I cant belive she had so many children and was embarrassed to talk about how babys are made. If it pained her that much she could have told one of the servants to tell her daughter.
The 2nd season was not good at all. All the heavy panting between Anthony and miss Shwama nearly kissing was so boring. " kiss her for eff sake".
Also the absence of Lord Hasting's was odd seeing he and wifey couldnt keep there hands off each other. I know the actor belived his so great that he would make it as a big movie star and all his film have flopped. I bet he wished he had not left the Ton.
Loving Penelopes story in the 3rd series though. Hope all goes well for her, speaking as a well endowed ginger myself.
Oh and I enjoyed Queen Charlotte's story too.
I think the trouble with 1 and 2 is like an old romance you should never go back.

SnapdragonToadflax · 05/06/2024 08:49

I know Julia Quinn takes great liberties with historical accuracy, but gently-bred young women really would not have known anything about sex before their wedding night. They might have had an awkward conversation with their mama or governess if they were lucky once engaged, but their world revolved around keeping them innocent, lest they were ruined.

Also it's a good plot device 😂

I also wish Rege-Jean Page hadn't left the series entirely, he was so good and it feels like a snub. I think they should just re-cast him - in the books the family are always around and involved in the storylines, so it's awkward having a missing brother.

BruceAndNosh · 05/06/2024 13:25

In one of the earlier series, Pen and Eloise are wondering how a woman becomes "with child" and we have seen no evidence that they have worked it out.
The married Featherington girls are varying degrees of clueless so it's reasonable to assume the Pen is still naive, so why does she give Colin "the nod" when he's inching under her skirts. She shouldn't have clue what he's up to!

Harassedevictee · 05/06/2024 14:11

@BruceAndNosh In the first book and series Pen and Eloise are about 17/18 with no married sisters.

By book 4/season 3 they are 28/21 (?) with married sisters. It is very likely they would have heard gossip at parties and at home.

The nod I interpret as introducing modern day consent into a historical setting.

diddl · 05/06/2024 14:23

I enjoyed the first series but after the Hastings were married I wasn't interested enough in them to want them to keep popping up in other people's stories.

SnapdragonToadflax · 05/06/2024 14:44

I agree with @Harassedevictee , I think the nod was to make the scene acceptable for modern-day sensibilities around consent. I've just had a look but I don't have a copy of that book to check (I do have many of the Bridgerton series, I've been a fan for years).

I also think Pen is written to be very astute, intelligent and above all, fond of gossip, and she would likely have heard whispers in ballrooms. She is clearly meant to understand a lot more about life than her sisters, and even Eloise.

Okki · 05/06/2024 15:29

In the book Pen does nod - not in the carriage- but where she knew she'd be in for a lot more than a kiss. Plus she was 28 in the book at that point.

Newgirls · 05/06/2024 16:08

I feel Pen would have read a lot? Haven’t read the books tho

Okki · 05/06/2024 16:19

And I imagine she would have overheard a lot during her seasons that Lady Whistledown couldn't have published Grin

Hewlet · 08/06/2024 13:20

Just finished episode 4 and will go back to catch up on the thread. I loved the final scene too (and the carriage ride was a return to the sexiness of series one in my opinion - swooon!).

I think the nasty Featherington sister is brilliantly acted, the actor looks like brilliant company in the odd behind-the-scenes photo I've seen. Lots of fun.

I also think Francesca is well-acted. She's not really given much to work with, but she's come in the show partway through and just fitted right in my opinion.

Okki · 10/06/2024 19:45

Do you think Lady Whistledown will really be revealed in this series, or will they fail to unmask her. What about Pen confesses to Colin and they become Lady W together. Pen gets a chance to make Colin and Eloise understand that she was saving them from heartache and worse scandal by what she'd published in the past. And then Pen and Colin have a storyline for a couple more seasons and the Queen still has something to do.

diddl · 10/06/2024 19:52

What did Pen write about Eloise that made them fall out?

She's also said some pretty harsh tings about the Bridgertons hasn't she?

Can she really explain it all as an "escape fund"?

pintofsnakebite · 10/06/2024 20:07

I'm annoyed about the variation from the book.

Colin is the first one to find out and it is her passion for Whistledown and her talent that makes him love her.

Pen wrote, as Lady Whistledown, gossip that Eloise had been secretly having disreputable meetings with Theo Sharpe.
Theo Sharpe was the printer boy.
So, lower class than Eloise and they shouldnt have been meeting with a chaperone.
Scandalous!

This meant Eloise reputation was ruined in the Ton and nobody showed up to the Bridgerton ball.

IIRC when Eloise found out Lady W was Pen, Pen explained the reason she spread this gossip about Eloise was to stop Queen Charlotte thinking it was Eloise who was Lady W.

But I think Pen also wrote the gossip about Eloise because Eloise ,with Theo, was getting too close to working out that Pen was Lady W

I agree. I can’t rewatch. I’ve never understood the love for Violet.

Yes, I can't quite figure out how they'll resolve the unmasking of Lady W. She's such a key part of the series, and if she's revealed and has to stop, there'll be a massive hole. I've also wondered if it'll stay a secret between Eloise, Colin and Pen, and then it can continue? But in the trailers for the second part they show the queen getting so close to discovering it, I just don't know.

I guess we haven't got long to know before we find out!
