Fingers crossed they can go out with a bang but not sure!

Because Stacey has very few functioning brain cells.

In my minds isle, I think Stacey's intellect is on a par with Pam's. It's just that Pam is funnier and more likeable.

the80sweregreat · 26/12/2024 18:38

Pam a la isn't as dense or spoilt as Stacey is.

Tbh the one character I really don't like is Dawn...don't like Pete much either

Pete and Dawn are the best. Especially this episode. Such advancement and regression from Pete. Classic.

I was a little bit worried how they would do this Christmas special. Watched it last night and feared someone would die. When Smithy fell down the stairs I started panicking. It was absolute sublime I loved every moment of it all the little details were spot on. Will watch it again at some point this week. I was surprised that they have left it totally open for another special episode or even another season. As the saying goes never say never.

My only slight criticism was that Bryn was a bit full on in a slightly aggressive manner.

Also I am pretty sure Owain Hughes is one of Gavins colleagues in the Welsh branch in season 2.

I always heard that malapropism as “my mind’s aisle” and imagined an aisle in a supermarket! I never thought of it as an island but that actually makes (slightly) more sense.

I thought of it as aisle too!

Just checked its the guy on the left. Gavin gets introduced to him on his first day.

God knows how I remembered that when my middle aged peri menopause brain can't remember what I walked into a room for 🤣

I went to school with the guy on the right.

I think it was pretty funny but the age depictions do annoy me, I'm slightly younger than the Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and Nessa (a lot younger) as in the actors and yet on the stag do they declare going to party like it was 2008 again, when hey are the foam party, they remark on the kids at the club and how they are not 16 anymore but there is no way they were 16 in 2008!

Yes but that just meant they used to go there when they were 16, not that they were 16 in 2008

madamtav · 26/12/2024 19:05

Another bit I loved was how Smithy was in bits at NTB playing Blackbird whereas Sonia was just grinning inanely. He got the beauty of the moment and it touched him so deeply whereas she was so surface level, and it became even clearer how incompatible they were.

Red, that shop on the A 12 is strange !
I often wonder who goes in it .

Nothing to do with G&S but I've often wondered that about the 2 "Adult Superstores" on either side of the A1 near Grantham/Stamford.

Lonely long-distance lorry drivers I assume.

Well he was the one of the lead characters in the school production of "The Matchgirls" 😅

Seriously I have seen him crop up in a few things... Topsy Turvey, Stella, Luther too if I recall.

The funny thing is I was watching the episode when Gav started his new job in Wales with my DS, and I was telling him about a new person in my office who, when we met, said the usual "oooh I have a friend in Wales.... John... Do you know him?"

I was moaning to DS about people expecting you to know everyone in the entire Principality when Wayne popped up on Screen, and I said, "oh, I did go to sixth form with him" 😅😂

Dawn looks like she has very regular Botox ( as I will)!

Lucy Davies, Jasper Carrots daughter. Sorry nrtft so almost certainly repeating someone else!

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/12/2024 19:30

Oh balls wrong quote, sorry!!

madamtav · 26/12/2024 19:31

Lucy Davies is Dawn in The Office, no?

Dawn in G&S is Julia Davis

So why 2008 in particular, odd to reference a time you were 26/27 hardly the inception of your partying youth days.

NorthernGirl1981 · 26/12/2024 14:51

Were Smithy and Co really 26/27 at the start of the series?

I’m trying to imagine a 27 year old Smithy going out with a 17 year old Lucy?

I always assumed that as Lucy was so young then Smithy l was maybe early 20’s? I imagined it would be an age gap where the girlfriend is still young in comparison but it was an age gap that wasn’t too far outside the realms of possibility?

Smithy and Gavin were 29/30 in real life

Because they did go there in 2008 in the series and still enjoyed it. Presumably that was the last time and they hadn't realised how much they'd moved on in that time.

Vitriolinsanity · 26/12/2024 20:13

Just watched it, having first watched Dr Turner who will evidently find a flu vaccine.

Mick made it for me. He's so understated but always the hero.

the80sweregreat · 26/12/2024 17:37

Stacey is a needy , spoilt nightmare who wants her own way constantly and completely indulged by those around her.
I don't mind Gavin , he has elements of Mick which is a good thing

I actually think she's quite like Pam. They're both a bit self centred and indulged by their husbands.

Isn't it mind's eye? Or am I missing a joke? Did Stacey say that?

The reason a lot of the Little Chefs turned it sex shops is that they can open there without any neighbours objecting. Who still goes to sex shops still though I have no idea.

It was once of Pam's malapropisms (I always thought of it as 'aisle' too).

Like 'Ours is not to reason while' 😁
