Fingers crossed they can go out with a bang but not sure!

It was good, definitely a massive improvement on the 2019 special with its minimal cast. I’m glad Sheridan Smith popped in this time, I adore all her characters.
ETA the only part that had me choked up was Neil, the baby, singing Blackbird - beautiful!

Edited

Hollering shut up at the buggy!🤣

I thought Pam talking about selling the house was hysterical- definitely classic Pam. Nobody takes half of what she says seriously. But they love her.

Even though she's not really a vegetarian!

Greentableleg · 25/12/2024 23:21

I loved it! The cossack dancing bit was genius! Neil the baby singing at the wedding was an unexpected highlight. Great ending which just showed that it really was all about Nessa and Smithy rather than Gavin and Stacey!

TheaBrandt · 25/12/2024 23:21

Loved it. They totally warmed up as it went along and by the end they had the old vibe back. So nostalgic watched it as a young got together in early 2000s couple ourselves and have aged alongside them

sweetpickle2 · 25/12/2024 23:24

I thought it was lovely- glad they didn’t go for any shocking plot twists or death and just gave the people the obvious ending they wanted.

I don’t like James Corden as a person but him and Ruth Jones have such chemistry as Smithy and Nessa- the drive thru scene was a masterclass in sexual tension.

Thought there were some really good laugh out loud bits as well- will have to rewatch to remember them all but Nessa saying “you and Gav are boring” when listing why she was leaving had me howling.

Cant believe people are surprised (and maybe even annoyed?) that the cast look older. They are older! Who cares?

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:25

It was Lush !
.. just made me cry and that's a good thing

BIossomtoes · 25/12/2024 23:25

Absolute perfection. James Cordan and Ruth Jones couldn’t have done better. I cried.

Cornishclio · 25/12/2024 23:26

I loved it although I cannot see how Smithy and Sonia got engaged in the first place. Smithy and Nessa were the real love story rather than Gavin and Stacey and loved how Gwen ended up with Dave's Coaches. We never did find out what happened on that fishing trip.

needmorecoffee7 · 25/12/2024 23:27

Bit odd that smithy's mum and sister weren't there at the end

PullTheBricksDown · 25/12/2024 23:30

Fabulous. They knew what the fans would want and they delivered. Thrilled to see Dave Coaches. Neil the Baby was, as ever, adorable.

On the 'they all look older' front.. they are! Pleased they made it while Alison Stead man and Larry Lamb are still working as it wouldn't be the same without Pam and Mick, no way, blasé 😀

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 25/12/2024 23:31

They got Smithy's name wrong in the vows.

Neil the baby's middle names were Noel for Nessa's friend from Hearsay. Also Edmund for Smithy's Papa Ed. They weren't Smithy's middle names.

stonkytonk11 · 25/12/2024 23:33

I thought the speech from Mick was so moving. All this time we were thinking that the Shipman's saved Smithy but actually it turns out he was the one who healed them. Really clever

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:33

Neil the teenager was fab

Bit odd that smithy's mum and sister weren't there at the end

Especially his sister his mum was always a bomb site

Yeah I found this strange. I was trying to figure out why he was with her at all. I get if she was new and attractive and he felt everyone thought he was punching above his weight and he went with the flow. But a 5 year engagement makes no sense!

WingingItSince1973 · 25/12/2024 23:36

Absolutely loved this episode. We've been binging Fat Friends. Ruth, James and Amanda look so so young in that. I mean it was donkeys years ago. Amazing how they all acted together again in G&S ❤️

TheaBrandt · 25/12/2024 23:36

No it wasn’t! His mum was always vulnerable and not with it and now even more so as elderly and his sister had 4 kids and looked to be on her own! Loved their names (Chingford Aldi can’t remember the others !)

Roryno · 25/12/2024 23:37

Possibly because it was a bit of an abusive relationship? She bosses him around a lot. And he probably did believe he was punching…

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/12/2024 23:39

I’m surprised that people found Sonia unbelievable. Have you really never known anybody so obsessed about getting married, everything being just so, hang the express, not really bothered about the groom?

I’ve come across this a couple of times. Once the groom came to his senses, once ended in separation 10 months later, but both women were very like Sonia.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/12/2024 23:39

I loved it. It was perfect.

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:40

It was lush!

FizzyBisto · 25/12/2024 23:40

Absolutely amazing ending! Yes, it was a bit cheesy, but I liked that it wasn't too try-hard and deliberately going off-track just for the sake of it.

I'm so glad that they made this grand finale, especially after the 2019 episode was a bit lacking.

I'm another one who really can't understand the surprise - or even the criticism - of actors looking 17 years older than they did 17 years ago!

VivaDixie · 25/12/2024 23:40

Partridgewell · 25/12/2024 23:17

Loved it. The Byker Grove joke made me howl because that is legitimately one of the reasons I've never been paintballing 🤣

I literally said 'Byker Grove ' before he did 🤣

Same here, I have never paintballed because of what happened to PJ 🤣

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:41

Dave will go nuts for Gwen's omelettes

Oh yeah I hadn’t noticed that. Maybe smithy changed his to match the baby’s!
