I loved it so much! I liked that we didn’t find out what happened on the fishing trip- we were never going to, that’s what’s made it funny all this time.
loved Gwen and Dave coaches! Loved that nessa and smithy got together. Pete was hilarious in his high tops! No one died so it wasn’t miserable. Neil the baby’s singing was brilliant. Only slight flaw was when all the cast members came back (delighted to see smithy’s mum and rudi), it was odd to have no deano when all the other mates were there especially as deano was one of smithy’s best mates. Did they mention why he wasn’t there - I wasn’t sure if I missed it. I realise the actor prob couldn’t make it but didn’t know if they’d mentioned the character.

despite that one tiny point though, I thought it was absolutely brilliant.

I loved it, everything I wanted and more....

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 25/12/2024 23:08

I loved it too, wasn't that keen on the 2019 one, the cast looking older made it more poignant imo, I can't believe people are complaining they looked too old ffs! Thought the acting was great, I got teary at Ness seeing Neil the baby off 😭.

rollon2025 · 25/12/2024 23:09

I really enjoyed that. A perfect ending.
I'm going to concentrate really hard tomorrow to get the "flow" of my Boxing Day buffet just right.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 25/12/2024 23:09

Loved it. We thought it was funnier than some of the earlier episodes. Nessa talking about Cossack dancing had me crying laughing. So funny. Smithy finally grew up.

I loved that beyond measure!

Me too! Perfection!

Clearinguptheclutter · 25/12/2024 23:11

I loved the big fat sue in-joke, assume you all got that!

Daft in places, but I liked the ending a lot. I wasn’t convinced it was going to end happily tho. I thought he might marry that awful woman, and once they got in the bus I thought it might be involved in an awful accident.

LunaNorth · 25/12/2024 23:12

Absolutely brilliant. Loved it.

Cocolapew · 25/12/2024 23:13

I thought it was perfect.

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:14

Made me cry !
Been a tough year , but that was perfect 🤩

FrogsLoveRain · 25/12/2024 23:14

I'm <whispers> not really a Gavin and Stacey fan...but I watched it and enjoyed it. Well done Ruth J and James Cordon. Tidy.

(And I'm Welsh so always feel a bit unpatriotic that I've never really enjoyed it as a show)

BurntBroccoli · 25/12/2024 23:14

Aw that was so good! Sobbing, laughing and heart aching a bit.
Neil the baby's song just had me in bits as it's one of my favourite Beatles tracks.

So, so pleased I watched the last 3 series in the last two weeks!

It's mainly ok for me so far but really missing Matt Baynton as Deano from the gang of Smitheys mates.

Yes I wondered why he wasn't in it

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 25/12/2024 23:15

Loved they brought up the beers of the world chart. From series 1 episode 1. Nice way to tie the first episode to the last 🍻.

VeryVeryCross · 25/12/2024 23:16

Absolutely loved it.

YourWinter · 25/12/2024 23:16

It was good, definitely a massive improvement on the 2019 special with its minimal cast. I’m glad Sheridan Smith popped in this time, I adore all her characters.
ETA the only part that had me choked up was Neil, the baby, singing Blackbird - beautiful!

witchycat2 · 25/12/2024 23:17

What do people think happened on the fishing trip?

I think it was a cold night, and while looking for food to burn, Jason fell in the lake leaving him drenched in freezing cold water. In the middle of nowhere and panicking, Bryn says he read something once that said hugging nude prevents hypothermia.

Of course, we will never know, but that's my theory!

Partridgewell · 25/12/2024 23:17

Loved it. The Byker Grove joke made me howl because that is legitimately one of the reasons I've never been paintballing 🤣

BestIsWest · 25/12/2024 23:18

Loved it, missed Deano. Thought the start was slow but once it got going it was fab.

LoafofSellotape · 25/12/2024 23:19

Loved it, it was brilliant. Had a proper snotty cry at Mocks speech .

Roryno · 25/12/2024 23:19

I thought Pam talking about selling the house was hysterical- definitely classic Pam. Nobody takes half of what she says seriously. But they love her.

Dh and ds were roaring laughing at that and saying that would be me. 😂

Yes the Neil the baby and Ness' scenes were so touching and totally struck a chord after watching my own baby leave home last year.
