Is there a reason Deano wasn’t part of it?

Everythingaches · 25/12/2024 22:58

I loved it in the end.

IKnowAPlace · 25/12/2024 22:58

Loved it, perfect ending.

Baby Neil singing was rhe best moment!

User346897543 · 25/12/2024 22:59

Where was Deano ??'

Crikeyalmighty · 25/12/2024 23:00

I actually thought it was charming, moving and well written . The fact that the club thing no longer felt right and that his mates sneaked away - to be honest that's the reality I've found in those situations. I thought Ruth jones was particularly good - i could feel the love and pride in their son and her regret for things and as someone who doesn't much like James corden i thought he acted really well too

Sausagenbacon · 25/12/2024 23:00

Uncle Bryn was always one of the best things gs about the show, a sweet guy with a dark side that only occasionally peeped through.
Tonight's episode lost the sweet guy entirely, leaving a psycho.
And Pam, saying how she would sell the house when Mick died and she got lover.
Just stupid writing.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 25/12/2024 23:01

I think Matt Baynton has done a lot of theatre stuff this year so possibly had unavoidable commitments. No Deano was the only flaw. Really wished he'd been there for the standing up scene.

Roryno · 25/12/2024 23:01

I thought it was absolutely perfect. Very funny, very emotional and all the long standing characters were there. Much better than the last Christmas special. You can walk away from it knowing it’s the end, but also knowing that everything is well in Gavin and Staceyland!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2024 23:01

CRACKING

wonderful ending just perfect

the80sweregreat · 25/12/2024 23:01

Is what it is
A happy ( Richard Curtis ) ending
Nessa with smithy
Is is the right choice

stonkytonk11 · 25/12/2024 23:02

I have never really given the fishing trip much thought to be honest...always felt like a story that was there to tease us and I kind of knew we'd never really be hang answers. Thought the last couple of scenes were absolutely fantastic

Snackpocket · 25/12/2024 23:02

Absolutely loved it!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 25/12/2024 23:03

@Sausagenbacon I thought that was classic Pam 😂

AnyoneSomeone · 25/12/2024 23:03

Ruth Jones was excellent in it. It was also brilliantly written. I laughed at the corn on the cob stuff and Gwen and Dave Coaches.

Agree with all that. The bit where Bryn was encouraging Gavin, his nieces husband, to use a prostitute on the stag do!

sweetydahling · 25/12/2024 23:03

Yes, I thought they would might go flying off a cliff on that bus - I'm glad they didn't pull an "ironic" ending and gave the viewers what they want.

Wonderful ending, totally not teary-eyed at all here 🥺... Storyline a bit predictable when it was revealed early on that Sonia was the bride-to-be (and I feel so sorry for the actress playing such a universally loathed character). This show has been incorrectly titled since at least S2 so I'm glad there was proper closure on the Smithy / Nessa front, though I don't think another special would be completely impossible like the writers claimed earlier this month. Not that I want one, I think it ended perfectly!

The only thing I wasn't sure about was the cast did seem a bit over-botoxed compared to last time, and Gav's parents did seem to have aged a bit.

Great to see Anna Maxwell Martin make an appearance at the end.

Laughed throughout!

widgitfidgit · 25/12/2024 23:03

Loved it. Larry lamb looked very frail though

Mylittlebobble · 25/12/2024 23:04

Mick's speech at the stag completely got me, alluding to a very painful time and how Smithy completed their family. Wonderful!

Me too!

He was in an RSC play this year. Maybe that is why.

It was. Anyone who 'knows' the show would get it.

Absolutely brilliant! Loved it.

Laughed, cried, and fab ending.

I love Pam, but that was just stupid

buttonousmaximous · 25/12/2024 23:05

It was lovely and nostalgic with a few funny bits. Lovely to see lots of the extended cast return too.

Neil the baby was brilliant

I've watched every episode, thanks

I thought that he's aged a lot even in 5 years.
