Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

Just catching up on last week, my god the screaming from Sunita was unbearable

I’m hoping she did a bit of sobbing, it was recorded and played on a loop. Poor actress might have had to keep sobbing and screaming take after take. Surprised she could speak afterwards.

eggandonion · 27/05/2024 18:53

Id love all Steves ex wives to come back for a big birthday. Jim too so I would. And Andy and Liz.

HurdyGurdy19 · 27/05/2024 21:05

Who are Steve's wives?

Vicky
Karen
The blonde one
Michelle?
Tracey

I'm sure I've missed at least one. And they may not have all been wives, but partners.

I think he’s been married seven times to five women (married Karen and Tracey twice)

Thank you! I could remember the actor's name was Katherine Kelly, but couldn't remember the character!

@ImNotThereAmI Good spot on the changes to 7 coronation st! Corrie wiki says this:

Though renting No.7 from Blanche Hunt, Danny and Frankie Baldwin and family made a significant change to the downstairs rooms. The French doors were removed, the space in the old front room was turned into a dining room, and both rooms were re-decorated.
The above changes were not mentioned within the narrative of the programme.

I thought the baldwins were skint?! Well weird having a wall removed in a rented house

Blanche Hunt

Blanche Hunt (née Linfield) was the acid-tongued mother of Deirdre Barlow, grandmother of Tracy and great-grandmother of Amy. Deirdre was Blanche's only child, raised mainly by Blanche herself after her husband Donald Hunt was killed in a road traffic...

Thanks! I’d forgotten they were renting which makes it even stranger! I also noticed last week we actually saw the front room in Eileen’s house which is Sean’s bedroom, complete with sofa bed. I feel like this might be the only time we’ve ever seen into this room, even up to modern day, but I could be wrong

Steve is the same age as me and I turned 50 a few months ago ,wether corrie remember that though !

ImNotThereAmI · 28/05/2024 17:06

When did Maria move into the cab flat? I completely missed that.
and what happened to maya? No reference to her today, did she die?

x2boys · 28/05/2024 17:10

She moved in when she was with Nick
Bit can Steve just mover his mother in surely Maria has some kind of tenancy agreement?

OCaledonia · 28/05/2024 20:14

Liz smoking in Maria's flat is really dreadful 😔

Mrspatmoresspoon · 28/05/2024 20:37

Maya survives I think and then spends eternity “awaiting trial” I wonder if the scriptwriters intended to bring her back at some point but forgot about her. Seeing as we never see her again they might as well have finished her off 🤷‍♀️

Liz smoking in the flat is gross. I’m sure by 2004 it was becoming the social norm to smoke outside.

I remembered the story as she died in the car when the lorry smashed into her. Maybe my brain just made that up as a better storyline than her being on trial and never being seen again 🤷‍♀️

Mrspatmoresspoon · 28/05/2024 20:44

To be fair that is a better ending for Maya 😂

thenightsky · 29/05/2024 21:00

Loving Blanche's lines. 'Eat your crusts. You need to do it while you can. You and Ken won't always have your own teeth'.

She gets all the best lines ,telling Liz,she looked like a prostitute
And then saying ,well I only said what everyone else was thinking 🤣🤣

HurdyGurdy19 · 24/05/2024 16:12

Sunita's getting right on my wick. She's not stopped crying/wailing throughout the whole thing. I'm starting to have sympathy for Maya!!! 😂

God she was annoying, but then I’ve always found Sunita annoying, her simpering voice has always irritated me along with her sanctimonious personality, it’s always her way or the highway or she throws a massive strop.

Blanche is my favourite ever character on Coronation Street, she is an absolute legend.

Classic Corrie Thread. Now in September 2004.
HurdyGurdy19 · 30/05/2024 18:40

They really broke the mould when they created Blanche. Maggie Jones played her to absolute perfection. Without a shadow of a doubt, she was Corrie's best ever character.

They've almost recreated her with Evelyn - Maureen Lipman is brilliant in that role.

eggandonion · 30/05/2024 18:53

Blanche Ken Deirdre and Tracy worked well. Gail and David are good now.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 30/05/2024 22:08

No sympathy for Fred. Or Tommy. Men and their behaviour when gambling is so stupid. Just Willy waving!

SabreIsMyFave · 31/05/2024 18:18

And again we have a row between Karen and Tracy, because Steve had the temerity to buy his daughter (Amy) a Christmas Present. 🙄

I always thought Karen was an OK character, and can't remember being annoyed by her when 2004 Corrie was out 20 years ago,) but she is really getting under my skin now. I am so fed up of the mardy grizzly look she has on her face when TracyLuv is anywhere near. The look that could turn milk sour.

I'll be glad when she's gone to be honest.

Claire's mom is absolutely vile. I am pretty sure that she could not do her accounting/tax inspector stuff for Fred as she knows him (her daughter is about to be his daughter-in-law.) So it's like a conflict of interest.

And yes to Fred being a twit, gambling away the Butchers! At least Mike let him keep it though.

Rita was very funny though when. She cottoned on about Claire mum being a tax inspector
Yes I thought Karen was an absolute bitch today wanting to take Amy,s present off her .

Mrspatmoresspoon · 31/05/2024 20:26

@SabreIsMyFave We have literally just said that about Claire’s mum tax inspector-as if that would be allowed
