I can’t believe how selfish the dad was being. His wife working 12 hour days and he doesn’t do any housework.

But didn't he find it a bit overwhelming? Poor thing 🤦‍♀️

Rummikub · 31/03/2024 20:13

Watching ep 4. The one where ex turns up. I’m not quite sure why he had swagger!

Rummikub · 31/03/2024 20:20

GoldonGreen · 28/03/2024 13:06

Absolutely, I'm not saying he was an angel. But the mum was trying to lay the blame for the mess on him, which wasn't fair. He's moved out years ago, there was no reason for the house to be in such a state. I felt so sorry for the girls.

I guess she was overwhelmed by the whole thing. Him leaving, being with someone else so quickly (waiting on the wings surely).
I was the same when ex left. It hard work picking yourself up again, work, keep the house and kids going.

Rummikub · 31/03/2024 23:19

Watching ep 5 - Keith is annoying. Cannot warm to
him at all.

Youngest is 6 months old. Why did mum go back to work after 12 weeks? Was it a shared paternity? But looks like he works from home anyway.

Yes I thought so too, I know on he Nuck knowles one they go to CEX or antique shops.

Do they just box all the for sale stuff up and then have to store it again this it sells ? As I imagine it will take longer than a week to sell and there wont be a car boot on that particular day. Just feels like the house might be lovely but then quickly fills up when the for sale stuff comes back in

I thought that. Who sells it? The programme? The family? If it goes bank to the house it's pointless.

Ulysees · 27/03/2024 17:04

All the t shirts with labels could have gone on vinted or something.

I noticed they were all crap cheap t-shirts. That's worse I think.

Corksoles · 01/04/2024 17:04

Oh, Keith, mate. Those fucking coins. How much of your wife's earnings and family money are you wasting on that shit? How many hours are you spending on silver websites, being scammed, when you could have tidied a corner of that house?

CornishTiger · 01/04/2024 17:32

In earlier programmes they have done car boots or been in CEX. But yeah. I think the sell pile is something they could make more of a programme about

EverybodyLTB · 01/04/2024 17:35

I want Keith to be the subject of an AIBU so I can tell his wife LTB. What a drip. One of them people who life happens to.

lul1 · 01/04/2024 22:10

I wish expanded on the 5 jobs. Yer she may work long hours but the agency work will be better paid and I can't see how it's 5 jobs / maybe 2 or 3 but it's still the same work just in different places.

Also how is the dad going back to work but is a stay at home dad?

Rummikub · 01/04/2024 23:08

Looked like he worked from home. In which case I don’t get why he took half the maternity leave.

LilacpointMummy · 01/04/2024 23:13

It's normal for dental hygienists to work in multiple practices - she must do a day in each one.

She also probably didn't get maternity leave re being self-employed, hence having to go back to work so early.

Rummikub · 01/04/2024 23:28

good point if she’s self employed

CadyEastman · 02/04/2024 06:48

That did cross my mind whilst I was watching it too Grin

He was on paternity leave with the baby rather than being a sahp.

I think on a previous episode Joe bought some exercise equipment off someone too. I often wonder if they recoup any money from stuff they get rid of, there is an awful lot. I know its sunk cost fallacy but I have to sell clothes / toys to buy the next size up etc so would break my heart for it all to go

That's what stops my decluttering-that box of stuff that has value but harder to sell. Or needs to be given away to right person -ie on old games console with games -no value on cex but sone kid would enjoy it.
So you end up storing until time to resolve it.

I'm not being mean but actually, a kid probably wouldn't as assuming we're talking Nintendo 64 or something, it will be slow and the graphics worse than something they can play for free on an iPad app. Just chuck it in electronic waste recycling at the tip and free your mind of it, or just free cycle/ FB free pages in case a retro games nerd wants it.

My mate is an auctioneer (v cool and fun job btw) but he says most people hugely overvalue their stuff, although it's always nice when someone goes the other way and gets a lovely surprise.

Aren't women continually told on here they can't work from home and take care of a baby properly?

ClonedSquare · 02/04/2024 10:46

I just can't really sympathise with this family (other than with the mum for having such a useless dick of a husband).

They only moved into the house a year ago, no way did they accumulate that much crap in that time. So they chose to pack the majority of the excess crap into boxes rather than take it to the tip. Moving house is literally the perfect time to do something like this, just shove a box in the corner of the room as you pack and chuck the rubbish in it. Especially the dozens of tins of paint that probably matched walls and fences in your old house.

ClonedSquare · 02/04/2024 11:03

Also felt it was very out of touch for Stacey to "empathise" with the mum guilt by going on about hown she feels so guilty because "I love my kids, but I also love my job". One, Stacey didn't go back to a full time 9-5 job three months after her babies were born. And two, the mum in this family clearly didn't choose to go back to work that soon because she wanted to, she had to financially. So hearing a millionaire with a relatively flexible job she loves talk about how hard it was to leave her much older kids for far less time just felt like salt in the wound rather than "I know what you're going through".

I was just thinking that someone should start a removal company based on sort your life out. Basically, instead of moving your stuff from a - b, they take it to a giant warehouse, lay it all out and then you sort through it all, then they move it into your new house.

I would bloody love this

ClonedSquare · 02/04/2024 13:29

@Lovelyview what a great idea! I decluttering my house constantly (we're planning to move if our house ever sells) but I'm sure there are loads of tiny items I gloss over or keep just in case.

It's easier to be brutal when you have to actively choose to let something back into your house once it's left! (Hence why I don't understand why this family took so much clutter with them!)

Greenkindness · 02/04/2024 13:32

Ok I know I am a huge soft touch.

We moved house with a toddler and I was pregnant. We found it really hard to find the time to pack, the moving date approached and so we paid our movers to pack it all up. We should have had a sort out then, but we didn’t. We were moving to a bigger house, I was going on mat leave, we’d sort it out at the next house. Spoiler - we didn’t.

To be fair, they might have applied a year ago, I don’t know how long it takes to do that.

Inspired by the show, I’m trying to sell decent stuff on Vinted. I think it’s already a good price, then people ask for 50% off, I work FT and can’t be arsed with haggling, I know it’s worth more, my 15 year old might wear it, that new lipstick could go in her Xmas stocking … that’s how I end up with clutter!

Greenkindness · 02/04/2024 13:34

Also, when we paid for the movers to pack, they packed the kitchen bin including the rubbish inside. Fair enough, they did their job and we should have emptied it. It was a case of they literally moved everything.
