Thank you, that's a great sounding organisation. But, no we don't want rid of it. It was basically all my DSs wanted as gifts (especially DS1) their entire childhood.

DS1 had started to try to sort it all back into sets but he didn't really have the space to get it all out. So it's part sorted by colour.

I'm not sure what the eventual plan for it all is. DS1 is diagnosed autistic and DS2 is dyspraxic but is probably ADD if not also autistic. They are very attached to it.

This was before we were finished collecting it all so there is a bit more now.

I’d sort into same parts not colour, and get a workstation that you store the containers in or has drawers. Sort first and then decide storage when you know what you have.
keep instructions in a folder or box but easy to find the one you want. I’d label each container with type of part. Bitty small things use a biscuit/sweet box inner.
That way easy to use and tidy up imo.

Thanks for the tips. We do have 2 crates of instructions too. There is simply too much for a desk or workstation to cope with though. I don't think the picture really reflects just how much there is in reality.

However the rest of the clear out continues... Ex h came and collected a couple of his boxes and I've done another tip run with broken things and had a wee manny round to put up blinds and other stuff I'd had stored for later, I've also changed some of the light fittings.

It's definitely got breathing room and jobs are so much quicker when things have a place to go.

There has to be a happy medium though. We have no garage and no loft. We have an airing cupboard, one small built in cupboard in one room, and one small cupboard in the hall that's big enough for a few coats. We don't have a huge amount of "stuff" but we do have things that spend most of the year in storage like Christmas decorations and suitcases, plus necessities like a large heated airer, a hoover, ironing board etc, and really struggle to store them. It's not just a clutter issue. There are so many new builds these days that don't have any storage at all and people are always going to need somewhere to put their hoover.

I agree with this. I live in a small terrace and really struggle with lack of storage. I don’t have a huge amount of stuff but it’s all those things like suitcases, Christmas decoration, etc that we all have that are a pain to store.
