@AlligatorActually it’s definitely worth looking into. I’m also the ‘coper’ and the one everyone comes to for help. The super-organised one. Then I hit menopause and the wheels fell off. Diagnosed with ADHD in midlife. So many things have fallen into place.

This really resonates - I’m definitely in the midlife menopausal category!

im often perceived by others as outgoing and with plenty of friends but in reality I always feel on the edge of everything and am always stood alone in the playground at pick up.

There are links between falling oestrogen and it ramps up ADHD symptoms and makes life harder.

Yes, in retrospect the symptoms had been building for several years. My GP and I both put it down to post-lockdown stress and also the impact of a traumatic event I’d been through. Then my DC was diagnosed and the penny dropped; my diagnosis followed soon after!

This is really resonating.

I couldn’t even see where the boys and the baby slept in this one!

The STAHD was useless, a Mum is ‘expected’ to look after the children and the house chores, but it seems if you are a Dad, then it can all be let go.

I’m afraid I’m a bit of a neat freak and nowadays have no children at home, but I don’t understand why they couldn’t take one room on a weekend and blitz it and repeat the next weekend.

Maybe I’m not in the same mindset

It doesn’t help that I’ve had an oestrogen positive cancer 😞

It would be nice to know if the team ever manage to sell any of the stuff and if so, how much they make.

Yes, there definitely used to be a programme where they did a car boot sale

lul1 · 28/03/2024 20:17

I'm behind. Just seen the second episode. That was just laziness sorry. Poor kids. They will have the piss taken once they get to secondary school. Those parents were pathetic!!!

lul1 · 28/03/2024 20:23

And where was the "proper" kitchen? It looked like miss-matched single units.

£7,000 to store it? They would have been off setting fire to it 😂

ThePoshUns · 28/03/2024 21:46

Oh god that kitchen! What a waste of money

lul1 · 28/03/2024 22:30

I liked the dad in the 3rd episode. I read the thread before I watched expecting not to like him.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/03/2024 22:39

I really liked the kitchen 😂

TitsInAbsentia · 29/03/2024 11:34

I did wonder if some of that was set up - I mean with all that crap on the kids beds/cot if it was always there then where did the kids sleep? Didn't understand why he had so many tools/diy kit, didn't seem like a house that needed it and it wasn't related to his job. I'm baffled week after week....

I thought the same. All the crap on the kids beds/cot had to be set up, there was nowhere else they could have slept.

They didn't show the results of the other two sheds did they? I bet they were still quite full of stuff.

@OSU @Ulysees

Hi I know I'm going back but can you tell me what made you think the mum was autistic in episode 4. I've just started the episode so I've no idea what she's like yet.

I'm autistic you see and I wondered what sort of things gave it away.

I think she mentions she's looking for a diagnosis at the moment. I thought it was ADHD that she thought she had - the same as her younger daughter. Her older daughter is autistic (all in the programme)

Bomblesofbimbledon · 29/03/2024 22:04

Can anyone recommend similar programmes to sort your life out? I've watched the new series and now going back to watch the old ones. It inspired me to have big clearout as we're moving house soon and I don't want to take it all with us.

Have a look at ‘The Home Edit’ on Netflix. American but good ideas for storage/systems.

Bomblesofbimbledon · 29/03/2024 22:31

@Putthefuckingthingsaway

Love the username 😂 very apt. Thanks for the recommendation. We're pretty organised and minimal already but I can't get enough of this sort of thing and I'm desperate to tackle the kitchen next

Putthefuckingthingsaway · 29/03/2024 22:36

@Bomblesofbimbledon then you’ll love the home edit. They are all about the kitchen and pantry. 😉

They did show the other sheds - one had all of his (unused) tools in and the other was more general storage IIRC. Plus the loft had boxes put away neatly, but still more stuff.

Nick Knowles big house clear out is almost identical. Space Invaders is similar, just smaller scale (usually just 1 or 2 rooms) and available on YouTube.

Fullofthejoysofspring · 30/03/2024 07:17

"Clean it fix it" on iPlayer is another good series

GreekDogRescue · 30/03/2024 09:57

I can’t believe how selfish the dad was being. His wife working 12 hour days and he doesn’t do any housework.
