I used to love ' how clean is your house ' at least you would see a glimpse of other cleaning people doing the cleaning and they didn't try to hide them.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2025 10:18

I suppose that a lot of it is just edited out tbh.
You don't see the four people carrying the boxes in and out or the actual cleaners there.

@stargazer02 70 people! Blimey! What the hell must the production budget be on this show!

There was an American programme I forget the name of where they build a house in 7 days. And I mean a mansion of a house. It was a fun watch but it had to be bullshit. The teams of people were huge though and you saw it all on camera.

There's stuff coming out now about how the families couldn't afford to maintain these massive properties. They were always altruistic type projects for poor and vulnerable families and at the end they'd say we'll pay your bills for 5 years or whatever, but actually beyond that the house would be extortionate to heat and maintain.

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2025 10:28

I remember that ' big build' programme and watched a few in awe.
Trust the Americans to do it bigger and better than just a warehouse or a team of cleaners !
DIY SOS show a big team of people , but it was small fry in comparison to that show

@Yourethebeerthief

You're talking about Extreme Makeover : Home Edition and yes, they stopped making it because families were losing the homes that they couldn't afford anymore, taxes and such.

They've recently restarted it as a series with a slightly different set up that has an Edit section similar to SYLO, but it's not on anywhere here to watch.

That's scandalous. I hope the families were able to sell these mansions and downsize. What possessed the people to think they could afford them though?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/03/2025 11:39

@Yourethebeerthief

It wasn't well thought out it was about the spectacle. Lots of the poorer families mortgaged to free up cash and then couldn't afford to repay. Hang on I think there's a YouTube video about it

Oh god that's awful. I had heard their taxes obviously went up too. I'll watch this later thank you

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 09/03/2025 13:09

That’s terrible. And these families are then worse off as they’ve had a taste of security and a home, only to lose it all again?

Used to love that extreme home makeover show when I was younger 😔

teaandakitkat · 09/03/2025 18:07

What was the show years ago with an American? woman and she had a massive garbage crusher thing in the garden and people threw the stuff they didn't want in there?

I remember an episode where someone e was storing all their dead parents' stuff and she encouraged them to keep maybe 2 or 3 then displayed them so they could be seen every day.

I've always remembered that one and tried to think that way when dealing with clearing family members' houses. We seem to have had a run of house clearing recently.

Always amazes me in soaps and dramas when they have one bag or a box and move away with hardly anything !
I don't tend to hoard or have a lot of things, but I'd still need a large ish removal lorry for the bigger items and so on.

And a plant. One small suitcase/cardboard box and a plant. Though this seems to be mainly adverts. It gives me the rage!

PenniesButton · 09/03/2025 19:09

Really interesting to see that insta video, 70 people! That's exactly what I imagined it was like behind the scenes.

I definitely DO think they do it in 7 days now I see the set up and all those people

CocoPlum · 10/03/2025 09:12

RaraRachael · 09/03/2025 09:44

We also see the family waving goodbye to one medium sized van as their "300 or so boxes go off to the warehouse". It must be several vans or removal vans for the amount of stuff some families have.

This week they said it was 6 vans of stuff!

The Life Laundry with Dawna Walter(s)?

RaraRachael · 10/03/2025 13:25

@CocoPlum I'm surprised it was only 6! 😁

Rummikub · 11/03/2025 20:13

Anyone watching?
a lot of stuff in this house

Rummikub · 11/03/2025 20:33

Only half way through and I’ve had tears I my eyes a few times

the80sweregreat · 11/03/2025 20:35

Her poor daughter :( it must have been such a difficult time for everyone.
What an amazing family though !

Yourethebeerthief · 11/03/2025 20:40

Forgot it was on tonight. Will catch up later!

Rummikub · 11/03/2025 20:55

Josh so grown up and polite

LaPalmaLlama · 11/03/2025 20:58

Did I mishear that the younger boy is her grandson? So who is the mum? There must be an older kid who isn’t there?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/03/2025 21:03

Love this family! They’ve really gone at it with gusto. I cried whenever they cried though

I was confused by this as she also said the 17 year old DD made her a mum.
