@Yourethebeerthief

There's one called Hoarders which I watched on Amazon Prime and Netflix briefly had a Canadian one called Consumed which had an identical premise to SYLO.

Thanks ☺️

Ulysees · 27/02/2025 18:28

@Putthefuckingthingsaway that's lovely to hear. Well done to dd.

Do you remember the name of this show?

Hoarding:Buried Alive, if I recall correctly, @Yourethebeerthief.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

Omg that's a really grim title 😬

Thanks though!

I used to devour Consumed. One episode had a lady who had the most enormous collection of Tupperware. Much of it still in huge cardboard boxes. I’ve tried to find it to relive the experience but failed.

Rummikub · 28/02/2025 15:40

Can anyone remember the show where they have a male psychotherapist helping people reduce their clutter? I cannot remember his band but I’m sure he had dark hair.

I remember one episode where a woman had basically piled clutter on top of a photo of her husband that she lost.

ASNQuery · 28/02/2025 15:59

There was a UK one years ago called The Life Laundry and it was much better at unpicking the psychology of why the person was hoarding.

For the plug clear out, Nancy Birtwhistle has a much better video on her Instagram on how to do it.

Rummikub · 28/02/2025 16:13

I’ve got the life laundry book.
I buy books on decluttering instead of doing it.

wildfellhall · 28/02/2025 16:54

Stelios Kiosses
He's a psychotherapist
C4's ' Hoarder Next Door'

I had the life laundry book and I've lost it in the house - the irony!

Ah yes!! That was it! Thank you. I’m going to see if it’s on somewhere.

wildfellhall · 28/02/2025 17:02

He's on the Declutterhub podcast and they published a new book yesterday
'Reset your Home'

We can buy the book and look at it instead of decluttering!
🥳

I wish I could still find it somewhere

Yes that’s my plan!
though I have signed up for the 30 day email declutter challenge by clutterbug. I gave up at day 3 but keep meaning to restart.

JobMatch3000 · 28/02/2025 21:32

I read the comments before watching it (tonight) and agree something was "off". You didn't see the removal van being packed up / waved off in the same way, and when Stacey said, "We have 30 minutes to pack up the house" you could just tell they'd barely touched the surface.
The family had a skip in their garden throughout the "week". I wonder what went in that.
The premise of the program has changed this whole series to redecorating, rather than just reorganising, the spaces. You don't see the team doing that.

I loved Dawna from Life Laundry. She was so compassionate to the stockpilers (not quite hoarders) but kicked their butts where needed.

House Doctor was another fun one - Ann Maurice was also pretty kick ass about telling people to let got of things

RaraRachael · 28/02/2025 22:19

I loved House Doctor.
Totally forgotten about it!

Rummikub · 28/02/2025 22:31

I’ve been watching house doctor at 5 am. Can’t remember what channel quite recently. Love looking at how dated the house styles are.

Is that the one where they're selling the home?

I spend a lot of time trying not to regret books which I have decluttered in the past and then suddenly needed urgently!

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 28/02/2025 23:39

Agree about using a psychotherapist for some of the families. I remember a makeover type show on BBC3 years ago, all based around finances. The woman would go through the practical things, like what they were spending money on, and the man (psychotherapist?) would go through the ‘why’. It was so good. The trauma, the breakdowns, the homelessness, you could see exactly why these people were in a financial mess, and you could see what they needed to work on to get themselves out of it too.

So going back to this most recent family, did anyone notice this wooden thing in the sitting room? I saw it at the end but no one spoke about it. They just showed the slats being turned to form a wall.

Maybe Zachary built it? 😆

I imagine it was full of big flouncy curtains with pelmets and "swags and tails" with those half and half wallpaper styles.
Hideous but I remember having those in my 90s house 🤣
