I adore Iwan, he seems so lovely, but his tips are often bizarre.

I was going to try wrapping the top of the radiator in cling film though, never done that before but doing up ds bedroom at the moment. I often splodged paint on the back edge trying to paint using a brush. Maybe I’ll just get on with it as before.

Izzy24 · 19/02/2025 13:37

So glad I read this - have just watched and was about to use a teaspoon on my kitchen sink! Think I will just go out instead.

Reading because I was also wondering about the kitchen in this house .

LenaLamont · 19/02/2025 13:43

@SleepEatSnoozeRepeat - if you just do the top and use masking tape to stick it down it does just fine. And then not worry about any paint lower down the back of it where you can't see anyway.

@wildfellhall - I like him very much, he's really grown on me. I just think he's even less practical than Stacey's 'crafts' - which are clearly great fun but very hit and miss on execution. But she's so happy about them that I like watching her do them anyway.

"Where is Florida" had us in stitches last night, by the way.

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 13:57

I think the real filth that follows hoarding is really revolting. He's massively encouraging. I love a man who uses white vinegar and lemon and bicarbonate of soda!

I would know and it would keep me awake at night. I'd have to take the radiator off the wall, despite the hassle and expense.

DH takes them off nowadays. He's done it so often it's a 2 minute job now.

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 15:15

"Where is Florida?" Was hilarious!

I love the whole team but I ADORE DILLY.

Really I adore her. She's such an ass kicker and do beautiful just what a goddess.

Rummikub · 19/02/2025 15:28

Yes I love dilly too. Stacey too. And rob’s creations.

LenaLamont · 19/02/2025 15:28

Dilly is magnificent.

I think “Where is Florida” might become the family’s new “What is Pi? Where did it come from?” from Educating Essex all those years back.

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 15:44

Surely super Rob has a support crew?

RaraRachael · 19/02/2025 18:25

I've only tried one of Iwan's tips - using ice cubes to remove furniture pressure marks on carpets - it didn't work 😪

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2025 18:34

LenaLamont · 19/02/2025 13:17

His first ever Top Tip was that you could use a sock to dust. Like, no shit, Sherlock.

Using a towel around a frying pan lid to clean a carpet... ummmmmmmm, Iwan? a cloth or scrubbing brush or a damned hoover will all do a far better job.

They are either blatantly obvious, ineffective or more hassle than using anything normal.

I mean like last week - wrapping the entire radiator in cling film tightly enough that it doesn't wrinkle or snag when painting behind it is actually more work than painting carefully, or than leaning the rad forward. It's a bastard of a job - I tried it many years ago because I was scared of making a mess and I wasted more clingfilm and time than if I'd just got on with it.

But he's a nice friendly smiley man, so he at least brightens the place up.

Lazy, cleaning-avoidant eldest son (which he admits himself!) took one look at Iwan in white jeans and said "that guy has never cleaned something that was actually filthy in his entire life".

This reminded me of the time when Kim Woodbury suggested you could use banana peel to polish your shoes!

I do love Sort Your Life Out - I love the way the crew lay out all the stuff - sorted by type and by colour - it looks so nice and tidy! I also think it is more practical than Nick Knowles’ approach, of laying things out according to the room they were in - I suspect the home owners often end up sorting the same sort of items in more than one room. For example, I have books in 5 different rooms, but sorting them out would be much easier if they were all in one place rather than five places.

I love the team too - if only I had enough clutter to invite them in! I would love to have a massive declutter, but without access to a full crew and a warehouse, we have to do it a bit at a time, and that is not as efficient.

Yup, I tried that too and can confirm it didn't work. I also tried to remove cutlery scratches from crockery with Barman's Friend. That didn't work either Iwan!

Yourethebeerthief · 19/02/2025 19:44

I roll my eyes at Iwan's nonsense. But I really like him, he's lovely. Surely he could have a better role on the show.

Ulysees · 19/02/2025 19:49

Yikes just did the sink thing. Totally gross in there!! I just wiped it off and rinsed the metal bit in the bathroom. Didn't need a bucket 😉

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius oh the banana peel. Nice streaky shoes 😅

I sort of wish they'd upload all the episodes to iPlayer but on the other hand I'm glad they haven't so I can't watch it all in one go.. Grin

CurbsideProphet · 19/02/2025 21:23

I love SYLO. I found this week's extremely humbling and moving. I wondered if Dilly felt it hit too close to home after her own cancer treatment last year. I would fully understand that. Dilly normally takes control of the kitchen and organising the clothes, so I presume that's why we didn't see that.

In the early series they have shown Iwan scrubbing the loo and dirty cupboards; maybe it's felt that looks a bit "oh these people are so grubby they never clean", which isn't the ethos of the show.

I watched series 1 in 2 days when my toddler was a small baby a couple of years ago! I was addicted 😀

She probably had an appt for treatment, she has in previous episodes.

Belaymehearties · 20/02/2025 08:40

DD says I love this programme because it makes me think our own house isn't that bad after looking at the houses each week! 🤣

wildfellhall · 20/02/2025 09:42

Curbside
All seasons are on the iplayer, the season is on the top line?

Lovemycat2023 · 20/02/2025 09:57

I’d love to hire a warehouse and do this but I think it’s very do-able at home if you do a room at a time. We did the shed and put everything on a tarp on the lawn and it was very satisfying. Mind you it’s a mess again now!

RaraRachael · 20/02/2025 10:14

We're decluttering my daughter's house one room at a time before they move to a bigger house. I've never seen so much stuff! Much of it never used.
Just hope they don't fill the new house with even more 😪

Yourethebeerthief · 20/02/2025 10:30

The mad thing is my house is very decluttered and minimal, even with a 3 year old. But I still can't get enough of programmes like this 😂 I think the team have the dream job 🤩
