Yes. She has just said she has Stage 4 cancer.

Who has? Someone in the family featured? Not Dilly?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/02/2025 21:54

The mother/wife of this family, Lynda has Stage IV cancer not Dilly

Thanks. I've not watched it yet and now I probably won't as I'd find it too upsetting.

I loved tonights show. I usually scoff at the tendency for these type of shows to tug at our heart strings but this one just seemed to be pitched right.
It was quite life affirming really despite the sad circumstances and I felt almost included as the team created safe clear spaces for the family. Their joy was palpable at the end.

I also have had breast cancer and ,I think in common with many others, have planned a memory box for my children in the event of an untreatable diagnosis so maybe thats why it hit home for me.

Putthefuckingthingsaway · 18/02/2025 22:25

What a lovely family. Just ended up sobbing along with Stacey. I hope they’ve enjoyed every moment in their new space.

Ulysees · 18/02/2025 23:12

I was blubbing 😞 That little girl is adorable.

I really thought they were going to have a problem with dad. Thank goodness they got the garage sorted.

I loved the projector screen and that mum got rid of so many scarves but they used a few too.

Loved this show ❤️

Really enjoyed tonight’s episode. Very emotional.
They must have a huge behind the scenes team, there’s no way they’d be able to do everything in that amount of time. Do they not do all the rooms? What about the kitchen, we didn’t see that at all. We never see the bathrooms either, do you think they at least get a deep cleaning company to clean the whole house?

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 00:28

I haven't seen tonights's yet.

You can see the army of people in some shots in the warehouse. Also in the earlier series there are painters and other workers in the background. I suspect they fake how long it takes to do everything and when the four leads go home I bet other teams take over to finish up. It's part of the fairy tale that it's them doing the work but it has to be a load of people doesn't it?

They did do a bathroom in an earlier series.

In the pilot eposide you see and the talk about the team who do all the work. They also do the kitchen and in the first series, first one they add extra storage under the bath. I’ve been rewatching them.

Sorry to hear that, I wish you all the best.

I’ll have to re watch them - ages since I saw the early ones, I don’t remember the bathroom one at all.
Shows like this are definitely inspiring though, just need slightly warmer weather & I’m going to tackle the attic which has become a real dumping ground!

AwkwardPaws27 · 19/02/2025 11:22

On a lighter note, if you follow Iwan's tip for unscrewing and cleaning the kitchen plughole... put a bucket underneath, & dont drop the screw into the u-bend Confused
As I've just discovered to my detriment...

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 11:32

I love this show.
I think Solomon is authentic as is the team, I can't imagine they could fake it but maybe I'm naive.
It's so powerful because it's life changing - they don't have to pretend do they?

Why a bucket?

Why a bucket?

Are you really asking this?

AwkwardPaws27 · 19/02/2025 11:56

Ulysees · 19/02/2025 11:34

Why a bucket?

When I removed the screw, the pipe below taking the water to the u-bend detached - it was holding it together (with a rubber washer creating the seal, rather than stuck together with silicone etc). So as I was cleaning it thr dirty water leaked into the cupboard under the sink.

Fair enough question, I don't think it said on the programme to use a bucket.

No they didn't show a bucket. If I was unscrewing the u bend I'd use a bucket. He just looked like he was taking the top bit off. Ours is clean anyway as I regularly use the bicarb vinegar boiling water method.

Thanks for the heads up - I was going to try it this afternoon, think I'll not bother now!

On a lighter note, if you follow Iwan's tips on most things they will be useless. That lad does less cleaning than the laziest of my offspring, based on a nonsense he recommends.

He seems very good natured, but he's about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Yeah, Iwan did not mention a bucket but I probably should have thought of it.

I use bicarb & boiling water regularly and my sink waste & u-bend were still absolutely disgusting Blush

Very satisfying to clean despite the mess!

Ha ha 😂 🤣

My plug is welded in, no shifting that with a teaspoon so bunged some bleach down there instead!

I found this out too! 🤣 At 10.30 ish last night, just clearing up kitchen before bed, I decided to see if I could unscrew our plughole. I succeeded. Resulting in the need to quickly clear out the under sink cupboard. Found the bicarb of soda though.

His first ever Top Tip was that you could use a sock to dust. Like, no shit, Sherlock.

Using a towel around a frying pan lid to clean a carpet... ummmmmmmm, Iwan? a cloth or scrubbing brush or a damned hoover will all do a far better job.

They are either blatantly obvious, ineffective or more hassle than using anything normal.

I mean like last week - wrapping the entire radiator in cling film tightly enough that it doesn't wrinkle or snag when painting behind it is actually more work than painting carefully, or than leaning the rad forward. It's a bastard of a job - I tried it many years ago because I was scared of making a mess and I wasted more clingfilm and time than if I'd just got on with it.

But he's a nice friendly smiley man, so he at least brightens the place up.

Lazy, cleaning-avoidant eldest son (which he admits himself!) took one look at Iwan in white jeans and said "that guy has never cleaned something that was actually filthy in his entire life".

wildfellhall · 19/02/2025 13:26

I disagree - Iwan is a great member of the team.
He goes into the grossness with such courage.
A lot of his tips are great!
