Thanks for the new thread.

I didn't really love this weeks episode either. I think the Dad point blank refusing to let the son put things up on the wall in his bedroom was so weird too.

I agree, it's as if he was being treated like he didn't live there.

Ulysees · 14/03/2024 18:43

I know the dad was very controlling. He obviously wants the dcs out.

I didn't like the bar. Looked cheap and weird.

I'm catching up with it now, why are there rooms they just haven't gone into?!

Not even half way through and the mother has mentioned her daughter getting married twice 😬

And will become a dumping ground

NearlyHeadlessNick · 14/03/2024 18:59

I love the program but didn't favour this episode. The poor girl with the pointed remarks about marriage!!
They seemed really friendly though, plus it was cute that they left them food out - I'd have definitely been digging in to the food 😜

evilharpy · 14/03/2024 18:59

I liked the son and daughter in this week's episode. The ban on anything on the walls was very weird.

eish · 15/03/2024 16:01

I also did not like the design of the bar.

WGACA · 15/03/2024 16:14

Thanks for the new thread 😊

LaPalmaLlama · 15/03/2024 16:54

Yeah the dad deffo wants both kids to leave home 🤣. I got the impression the son is maybe someone who’s started a lot of things and not really seen them through ? I do like this show though. It underlines how our stuff is tied to our identity and why we have a hard time giving some stuff up even though we don’t use it.

LaPalmaLlama · 15/03/2024 16:58

And yes, the bar was such a weird decision. Why would anyone want a bar in their house?? It takes up so much space and they could have got the bottles and glasses in a couple of cupboards.

User478 · 15/03/2024 16:58

The bar was massive too, took up 1/3 of the room! I suppose it had to be to fit all the booze in!

It didn't seem very fair, she had to get rid of all her things and he just had to not buy anymore whiskey! I wonder if he just didn't engage.

Yeah this was how I felt - the space allocated to his bar was disproportionate and it’s going to get used so infrequently. A lot of those glasses still had the stickers on them!!

Ulysees · 15/03/2024 18:19

Does watching make anyone else either declutter/ not buy stuff or both? It definitely makes me think. I'm hoping to move soon so aren't buying needless things anyway. Plus I'm getting rid of stuff. We're buying a house at the brink of our budget but it'll be fab once we're in.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 15/03/2024 19:21

Definitely makes me want to declutter! Mostly the pantry and our spare room which is pretty much full of all kinds of 'just in case' items plus hand me downs of clothes for the kids.

LaPalmaLlama · 15/03/2024 20:50

I do wonder how many of these families manage to maintain it given that usually at least one of the parents is a certified hoarder.

FeedMeSantiago · 16/03/2024 08:40

Watching this makes us declutter. We've given a lot of older or hardly worn clothes to local charity shops and some poorer quality ones to the clothes bank for fabric recycling. We've also been sorting through old books and DVDs. DH made some decent cash selling some old football shirts on eBay.

We have a baby due in the summer so that has also motivated us further to free up some space in readiness for baby things.

I suppose most people have more things than they need but nowhere near as bad as the families on the programme. So, it motivates you to keep on top of things. Dilly's 'do I need it, do I love it, do I use it' mantra has really helped me let go of stuff. Especially now I no longer rent and move every year or two, that always prompted a declutter at packing time!

LenaLamont · 16/03/2024 08:54

I find the reverse - I sort of want to declutter a bit, then I watch stuff like this and realise we’re just fine as we are.

It did make me buy a label machine after S1, though!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/03/2024 20:22

I didnt see this thread and started one! Nevermind

CornishTiger · 17/03/2024 20:52

Hope I’m ok to join this. Love the programme.

id like to do a revisit of the families in pass series and also know id they get any real life support to deal with the issues that got them into needing the programme.

Ulysees · 18/03/2024 00:06

It must be such a struggle to live with a hoarder. Luckily dh and I are of a similar mindset. And neither are overly sentimental. I've kept a few things from dcs childhood but not tons. Dcs are adults now and neither are hoarders but their ddad is. I'm just so glad they haven't inherited it.

Pixiesgirl · 18/03/2024 00:31

I only discovered this show recently and love it. I don't really identify with most of the people as I'm really not sentimental whatsoever. It's good to watch people get a fresh start though.

LaPalmaLlama · 18/03/2024 11:16

DD and I were speculating about the screening process today (waiting for the dentist so yes we were quite bored) and reckoned they must have to weed out tonnes of people where one half of the couple isn't engaged with it and is being forced into it by their desperate partner. We also wondered if you have to send photos so they can check it's bad enough to make good TV and if anyone makes it deliberately worse so they get the free help.

Ulysees · 18/03/2024 11:38

@LaPalmaLlama yes you could be right?

I'm into watching clean it fix it too. I can't get over how minging some of those houses are 🤮 I'd be mortified.
