Brittney’s brother had a different dad so went to him I thought?

Lauren is indeed very screechy and moody for someone who is 30.

I read the actress Penny’s father and brother were/are football players. Her character annoys me too. She isn’t likeable.

Denise and Jack had zero chemistry. In fact nobody has ever had chemistry with Jack.

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 15:12

I can see why George fell for Rose tbh. They probably were happy in Marbs.
I wonder if the son will turn up and who his mum is too.

GloriousintheArctic · 20/04/2024 16:26

Back in MK Britney had trouble hearing people unless she was looking at them to lipread, maybe she wasn't wearing her hearing aids though. In the square she seems to have no problem, but I see it's being returned to

That is so true, Jack is a chemistry free zone. And I agree about Penny, there is nothing likeable about her.

I’d completely forgotten. Bianca was telling her to put in her hearing aid!!! No mention at all since!!!

A dose of reality might not go amiss tbh !
The real ' life admin ' they never seem to do
The bins !!
Running businesses, which they make look easy and probably isn't nowadays
Why do all these places never have any deliveries? Sorting out insurance claims .. I could go on but won't ! lol
Maybe that is so boring for a soap , but would inject some realism into it from time to time

I thought I saw the odd delivery van on Thursday... mostly insurance claims appear when 'they want to con someone with a dodgy one' as in talking about the one for the cafe with Rocky/Kathy. Didn't they in the past have a story (a few years ago) about getting deliveries of beer, having to pay someone for it, the Vic was low on cashflow back then? Was it pre-Mick and Linda?

Some of the business people in EE do seem a bit dim though. You see Suki wandering around with her big handbag, occasionally was in an office 'doing paperwork' when she first joined, Vinny swans around holding a clipboard/papers as the letting agent, Eve know everything legal ever, despite being a bent lawyer and struck off and you see Phil sat like Jabba the Hut in his big leather swivel chair with his boxing trophies and certificates behind him but not really doing much work, apart from shuffling papers. Kathy seems remarkably dim as a cafe owner (did she own other businesses), her son Ian, seems the only plausible business-man out of the lot of them.

I do think life admin is probably boring for the viewer, so therefore not filmed. You very rarely see the kids doing homework, apart from Jack shouting at Amy and Ricky to 'go and do your homework'.

All the banks are made up ones (of course), but it always seems very easy, too easy, for someone like Dean, to switch the money between the accounts.

I do agree with Elaine, she really is a time warp fashion victim. I do know a close friend of mine though who's really into the backcombed sprayed hair look and dresses a bit similar to Elaine, but less satin (synthetic) camisoles type. Linda, honestly, I think they dress her like a joke. I don't know anyone her age or type who would ever dress like her in real life, unless it was for a dare. Yes, I know she loves pink (brighter the better), flamingos, teetering heels (it's hysterical the way she wanders around with her sippy cup, obvs plastered, slurring away!) but her bun hairstyle, (I thought most women stopped wearing that hairstyle after one of the Peru Two (?) drug dealers was photographed wearing it) is awful and I swear the costume dept dress her that way for a joke.

Agreed re Jack having no chemistry with anyone, did he ever have it with Roxy or Ronnie?

Eastie77Returns · 20/04/2024 17:09

Mrsjayy · 20/04/2024 11:55

They had Lee at 14/15 didn't they so that would make Linda mid 40s.

So Mick fathered his first child (Frankie?) with the woman who abused him when he was about 12 and so had two kids by the age of 14. EE love implausibly young parenting storylines.

Agree Phil and George bromance works well. I think he’s the only person I’ve seen Phil genuinely respect.

Intrigued about the George son situation. Cindy mentioned the other day she never met him so he must be a good deal older than the girls. George seemed very reluctant to get in touch with him.

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 17:19

I'd love to know what became of the pest control business the Panesars had once and why we rarely see the GP surgery they also run.
So many businesses around , all run well with little input most of the time.
At least we see Ravi working in his restaurant occasionally or the odd worker there
Will they reopen the cafe at any stage?
It's a grim thought though .

Did the pest control business close down?

I thought the launderette was rarely used these days... apart from the back part being used by Kat as a mini cab office. So I was surprised to see Elaine hot foot it there after Yolande and it still being open!

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 18:00

Don't know what became of the pest control place.
It was odd that the launderette was open, but timings on EE are strange sometimes and things are rarely locked up ( as they would be in real life )

You're correct, the amount of locks which are unlocked or unpadlocked on EE is unreal, as well as timings of shops/businesses.

Like when George was boxing the other day, either Phil was working overtime or George was there late, next thing you know they're down the illegal boxing ring. Timings seem very fluid there...

Icehockeyflowers · 20/04/2024 19:53

There is absolutely NO reason why Vinny would need a clipboard as a letting agent. The costume dept must have held onto it since CARmel had it and given it to Vinny to use so the viewers can see he is ‘working’.

I didn’t realise Eve was a real solicitor. I thought she studied law while in jail and some cellmate taught her get rich quick schemes but thinking about it she always knows someone to ring about different things so must actually be one. Surely there must be loads of dodgy people she can ‘advise’ and earn better money than working in a bap van.

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 19:58

Eve was a proper lawyer once apparently, but it's a bit vague as to her area of expertise !
I'm surprised that Phil hasn't put her on the Mitchell payroll and binned off Ritchie.
She might not be any good with criminal law though. Despite being in prison for GBH herself

To be fair, most lawyers I know. You train/study in all areas of law, but of course once you start practicing you generally specialise in only one area, though some, my ex boss, knew about 5 areas well and practised them all at one time.

Criminal is complex though, as generally there's no money in it. We had a client who used to be a criminal lawyer (pain in the arse he was, just for conveyancing transactions he used us, mostly) and always used to remind us of how clever he was, arsehole.

We weren't surprised and sniggered inside our offices, when we found out, not longer after, that he'd stopped practising as a criminal lawyer. As generally, as I said, there's not much money in it. And hard to prove, long complex cases etc.

We don't generally snigger at other lawyers by the way, often an unspoken lawyer rule is that you respect all fellow lawyers, no matter how bad/good/indifferent they are. It's a surprisingly unbitchy profession, from my experience anyway.

Often it's an I rub your back/you rub mine scenario especially when it comes to swears/certifying documents, and you even sometimes throw work their way, e.g. to another local practice, if you can't do it yourself, which is rare! In a small town/city you all know each other too.

the80sweregreat · 20/04/2024 20:36

I can see Eve as a lawyer though !
It's a shame she went rogue
I Wasn't aware that being a criminal lawyer doesn't pay as well , but I've not really had many dealings with any type of lawyer myself
(Only when we bought a house and that was straight forwards , not too much interaction.)
My knowledge of it all is scant !

Southeastdweller · 20/04/2024 21:07

Apparently you can apply to go back on the solicitors roll after being removed, so there’s hope yet for the lovely Eve to resume her former profession. I don’t want her to leave, but it’s inevitable she will at some point, so going back to being a solicitor somewhere else would be a nice exit story for her.

Surely you can't practice law once you have a criminal record?!?

Sorry to derail but is there a classic Eastenders thread going on here?

katebushh · 20/04/2024 21:47

I thought there was cannot find it, desperately need to talk about it!!

JemimaTab · 20/04/2024 21:48

It is very very rare for people to be allowed back on the solicitors’ roll after being struck off. If it happens at all, it is many years later, and the applicant has to show they are worthy of it and have completely turned their lives around - which usually means showing something like they’ve been doing voluntary legal work in a non-solicitor support capacity for years or something like that. It certainly wouldn’t happen when you’re only a couple of years out of prison.

Jarstastic · 20/04/2024 21:54

Jack is a bit like a Thunderbirds puppet so I understand the comments about no chemistry.

however, I liked the scene a few months ago where he and Denise were playing soul records.

i think that scene when I see him walking around in his jeans with the turn ups.

That's what I heard too, after I worked in a solicitors' office for 5 years. We had a client threatening to get us struck off which was actually quite rare so I heard, but it does send the shits up the lawyers a bit when clients did threaten to report us to the SRA, but it's all 'don't panic' but they know it's rare deepdown!

Having said that, on Baby Reindeer, Netflix, apparently the Scottish lawyer involved in that was struck off, but she stalked someone and was convicted, at least I think she was.

Sorry for derailing with boring legal jargon/stories. Lawyers really are boring, despite what they'd have you believe!

GloriousintheArctic · 21/04/2024 08:13

Yeh Eve is a struck off lawyer, she used to dodgily advise Nish but obviously that came to an abrupt end! I thought she’d advise the Six but of course they’ve got Johnny who is a Real Lawyer. And Phil has Richie permanently on the pay roll.
