Raye Racist

Having never heard of Raye before her BAFTA success last night I decided to listen to some of her music. Was somewhat enjoying it until her lyrics “All the white men CEOs, fuck your privilege
Get your pink chubby hands off my mouth, fuck you think this is?”
I personally feel these are racist lyrics and they are unacceptable.

The older I get, the more I realise that arguing with the woke left is pointless. There is no sense to their arguments and it's almost like they make this their main tactic so you give up.

Get your big pink hands off me - acceptable?

Get your big black hands off me - not acceptable?

Attacking the characteristic of a person is hateful and unacceptable regardless of the situation. All it stands to do is divide. I have pink hands too.

The moment I heard (on the radio I might add, on every news bulletin just before you accuse me of racism) that this Raye (who?) had so many nominations, I smelt a rat and here it bloody is.

Watch the video posted above.

Here is what, exactly?

Well, that she's loaded with hate and now has a platform to spew it.

Have you ever been attacked, abused or in some other way oppressed because of your pink hands? Have you ever felt threatened or unsafe because of them?

Has anyone ever felt that way because of pink hands?

No.

That's why it's not racism.

Did you watch Raye's performance? She won loads of awards because she's phenomenal.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 05/03/2024 16:01

What evidence do you have that she's loaded with hate? Except for name calling some white dudes who sound like they took huge advantage of a young woman? As someone who has been in that situation I say go that woman. Some men need to learn this shit can come back and haunt you and when it does it's glorious to see

Uricon2 · 05/03/2024 16:07

"Pink chubby hands"? Really? You're upset about that?

I wish there was half as much froth about the undoubted, ingrained racism and inequality black people experience.

@DaisyCat33

Depends how sensitive I am but could I not take Rayes lyrics as an attack or abuse on people with pink hands?

Do you not see that refusing this sort of language, and any attack of a characteristic is necessary? Do we accept this as normal and create bigger divides? I've been called a white bitch before, are we aiming for this as the standard? Just so we are creating some kind of warped equilibrium?

Doesn't matter what race or colour you are. It's completely unacceptable.

'Spewing...loaded with hate...'

Christ. And yet Raye is supposedly the one betraying her prejudices through inflammatory language??

You forgot 'frothing' and 'hysterical', btw.

Prawncow · 05/03/2024 16:20

I've been called a white bitch before

I’m stunned. Shocked and stunned.

Uricon2 · 05/03/2024 16:20

"Depends how sensitive I am but could I not take Rayes lyrics as an attack or abuse on people with pink hands?"

Have you really no idea how completely ridiculous this statement is?

Dear God.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/03/2024 16:21

good! Bring it on - honestly why so scared of ONE female being angry about her personal experiences of oppression - I guess she should just shut up and sit quietly in the corner looking pretty.

I bet a billion pounds you don’t spend this much energy calling out racism to black and brown folks.

why don’t you go for the full house of white people whatabouttery and talk about how you don’t see colour?

Uricon2 · 05/03/2024 16:26

Taylor Swift has gone in to battle with record companies. I can actually imagine her using the same phrase in the same context, but no one would be calling her racist.

A black woman makes such a statement and it's oh so wrong.

BTW I have pink and fairly chubby hands myself.

peachgreen · 05/03/2024 16:27

Imagine equating being called a “white bitch” once with the ongoing, systemic and endemic racism faced by BAME people in this country. Like… what kind of mental hoops do you have to jump through to think those two things are in any way equivalent?

crumpet · 05/03/2024 16:29

Of her 4 grandparents I believe 3 are white. I don’t think she was coming at this from a place of cultural division. She had been assaulted, she had been prevented from publishing her music. The people who did this to her were white men. Why can’t she describe them as such?

Agreed

As usual. A nonsensical response. I don't know why I've allowed myself to fall into this argument.

Thats not what I said.

What I am saying is that this will become the norm, to tear each other apart. It won't end well.

Nobody should be speaking in this manner, ever. All this does is pushes us backwards to a two tier, segregated society. All sides resent each other. It's not helpful, especially the MN posters who like to act as guardians of the hard done by. Move on. It's toxic.

Uricon2 · 05/03/2024 16:51

I think the phrase "MN posters who like to act as guardians of the hard done by." in the context of the original post tells us everything we need to know about you @rainydaysandwednesdays which is that you know absolute zero and care less about racism and how it affects the real people living real lives around you.

Prawncow · 05/03/2024 16:58

You do know that if you bury your head in the sand the only thing you’re doing is showing your arse?

mids2019 · 05/03/2024 17:05

I do worry about the tendency to think that white people can't experience racism is actually worrying. An obvious group currently that proves that this is the case are Jewish people.

Reference is made to a colour i.e. an ethnicity and therefore the lyrics can be construed as being racist. If the singer was white and she referred to brown hands there would be a justified controversy so why not the reverse.

I think posters with this view are quite aware of the racism endured by people of colour but that does not excuse racism in return even if you could argue there is a difference in magnitude. Racism of any form is unacceptable.

jackstini · 05/03/2024 17:05

MiltonNorthern · 05/03/2024 11:14

Well my reading comprehension and understanding of wider context helps me decide what I think it means. If you're someone with a chip on your shoulder I guess you might interpret it differently...

Exactly - you are deciding what you think it means - which is fine
That doesn't means it's a fact

No massive chips on shoulder here, but I'm never keen on using 'all' when giving an opinion on a group of people
Tarring everyone with the same brush also feels like a form of prejudice to me

I don't doubt the the 'white CEOs' she is referring to have privilege and they abused it - completely right to call them out; but whether every single white CEO deserves to be told 'fuck your privilege' is a matter of opinion.

Many are complete wankers I agree; but unlikely 'all' of them. I have known a couple of great ones

I get it's just a turn of phrase, but I can decide in my understanding of the wider context that I don't like that phrasing, even if you don't mind it - luckily we both have that freedom of opinion 🙂

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 05/03/2024 17:08

Ffs. What is it about Raye's description of her sexual assault are you so struggling with? Nasty. I'd be a lot fucking ruder about anyone doing to me what they did to her.

Or are you Daily Mail types, having to drag a successful young woman down, in order to booster your own low self esteem?

FebruaryIsDoingMyHeadIn · 05/03/2024 17:17

“I was surprised how inarticulate she was when being interviewed. Obviously not the brightest"

As she becomes a global superstar soon to be raking in millions. 😂

VivienneDelacroix · 05/03/2024 17:47

Denial of white privilege is racist. Controlling black people talking about white privilege is racist. Highlighting white privilege is not.

VivienneDelacroix · 05/03/2024 17:48

"Fuck your privilege " is a fair enough statement. White privilege hasn't been earned.

peachgreen · 05/03/2024 17:50

Racism of any form is unacceptable.

Indeed. This ain’t racism though.

A nonsensical response.

Just because you don’t have the critical thinking skills needed to understand it doesn’t make it nonsensical. Again, I ask you: why is this “insult” to rich white men the thing that’s got you so worked up? What about them makes you feel the need to jump to their defence?
