Raye Racist

Having never heard of Raye before her BAFTA success last night I decided to listen to some of her music. Was somewhat enjoying it until her lyrics “All the white men CEOs, fuck your privilege
Get your pink chubby hands off my mouth, fuck you think this is?”
I personally feel these are racist lyrics and they are unacceptable.

prejudice plus power is one form of racism, it is not the only form of racism.

No it is not racism.
But most people on MN do not seem to understand racism and many think it is not racist when they do say racist things.

Depressing that people still don't get that 'reverse racism' isn't a thing.

Think about it - how much effect does, say, one black person hating white people have on white people? None. How much effect would even a big group of black people hating one people have on the dominance of white people? None or minimal. There is no systemic effect from 'reverse racism'.

But the effects of even unintentional racism from white people towards people of colour is does so much harm than even intentional hatred the other way, because it happens every day and it's death by a thousand cuts and it's subtly undermining PoC all the time. Plus there is a history of systemic racism that has, for example, made it far harder for PoC to create capital over generations through savings and property - in the US quite literally because of laws that prevented this (see The Color of Law) and more subtly but still damagingly in other countries where PoC would be less likely to be approved for loans, mortgages etc (and sadly I suspect still are)

As had been said, white CEOs will survive Raye dragging them in a song.

The refusal of previous of posters to see that these lyrics are racist (regardless of the background between her and SOME men) just further proves the existence of reverse racism. It’s simply not seen as a problem by many. If I and the many others who have given thanks on my post or posted in support believe them to be racist and/or insulting, they are.

I think you should stop digging in and go try to find out some more about racism. It's deep though and I suspect more than you are able to understand, at least with the level of thought you are displaying on this thread.

My child is mixed raced like raye and I personally would have no problem with him saying this as it's his prerogative as he is part of the white race of me and the race of his father.

I don't see it's an issue for raye to be saying that at all her dad is white, otherwise it could be a different spin.

You should really use the word prejudice, not racism.

Racism is prejudice plus power and she doesn't have any power over rich white CEOs. But moving forward she may well pre-judge any rich white CEOs with chubby pink fingers that she may meet in the future.

I think it is factual from what she has experienced.

Had she said 'all white people are cunts' then that's another matter entirely
