DP and I went out to watch a film this evening in a part of London we very rarely go to. I had to turn the car around in some random road and this is the house I turned in front of! Couldn’t believe it Shock

Does the blue plaque say 'some old woman who wrote like 60 crime novels' Grin

All the contestants go on a series like the traitors because a) they hope to win a decent sum of money and b) many of them want a media / influencer type career.

It doesn't seem particularly reasonable to criticise the winner for doing what they all wish they'd done.

My biggest frustration is with Jasmine and Evie for falling for the shield nonsense. They were too busy trying to get each other out to see what was happening.

QuarterPastThree · 27/01/2024 23:30

The shield nonsense was what really aggravated me as well. Why oh why did nobody twig that there could have been another reason that Harry wasn't murdered that night, and it had nothing to do with being protected by the shield?

autienotnaughty · 27/01/2024 23:30

There was something distasteful about seeing this cocky young lad win against a young disabled woman.

I think it stems from centuries of women being take advantage of/manipulated and made to feel like they have to please others.

But at the end of the day it was a game. And he did well.

I feel like there might be one or two good series left before it overthinks itself. And everyone is trying to be a winner

periodiclabel · 27/01/2024 23:47

Andrew is not single, he was talking about his partner

Dotellhimpike · 27/01/2024 23:50

Mollie is a grown ass adult, who happens to have disabilities. She is clearly someone who is strong enough to have forged a career refusing to be limited by those disabilities, and trying to help others in similar situations. I think it's doing her a disservice to have all these commeent talking about her like she's helpless and needs to be made allowances for, to the point of being given an easier ride on the show than others.

Yes, and how the prize money would help his children too, I think.

ShelleyCarpenter · 27/01/2024 23:57

Yes and his partner and her children. Sounds like a lovely man

completely agree

these people who use her disability as a defence are actually insulting her

she’s a kind woman who did no wrong

she was just young, vulnerable and naive

traits we shouldn’t admire but excuse because of her age.

harry was similar age but strong, resilient and tactical - probably because of his army background. Almost same age as her with enviable character traits. He acted perfectly

Turkeyhen · 28/01/2024 00:06

It was horrible watching Mollie find out Harry was a traitor, but that's the name of the game.

I get the impression from Mollie's interviews and pieces to camera that she applied for the show for a number of reasons that had nothing to do with the prize money (although I'm sure she wouldn't have minded winning). She wanted the challenge of doing the missions (which she was brilliant at), to have fun, and to raise awareness about limb difference and that having a stoma needn't stop you living a full life, plus I'm sure raising her profile will be good for her modelling career. She succeeded with all of that.

But that was HER doing

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 05:55

Getting back to the game, I agree there should be not late recruitments. They are only cannon fodder, like Ross, anyway.

I would also like them to ensure every faithful speak up, because right now people coast to the finals by saying nothing. That might make the challenges shorter, but I think most people watch for the Round Table anyway.

lizzowhiz · 28/01/2024 07:07

I don't see a problem with late recruitment of traitors provided they have the option to decline. I was just surprised that both Andrew and Ross accepted: surely they knew by that stage they were likely recruited to be disposed of. Andrew did seem reluctant but then agreed.

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 07:15

If they don't accept, they will likely be murdered, like Alex was last year.

autienotnaughty · 28/01/2024 07:15

@TooOldForThisNonsense

Yes steeped in a lifetime of patriarchy and misogyny.

I'm not blaming him, he played a game well. But I can't help but feel that because we live in a society that favours men and teaches women to conform that mollies behaviour was a product of societal failing.

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 07:20

I began watching the Oz S2, but it's all weird over-flamboyant reality stars ( not a spoiler). I so prefer normal people. Don't think I will continue.

I agree she's not a helpless person. But it's important not to forget that people with disabilities have to live in a society that is set up to fail then, and will typically face judgement, bullying, and struggle to fit in. Disabled people are significantly more likely to suffer from mental health issues, commit suicide, fail to thrive than non disabled people. This can lead to a desire to please, to fit in, to not make a fuss.

It's not about infantilising mollie but acknowledging her struggles which makes the fact she didn't win feel like more of a loss.

In a desire to treat everyone equally people can forget that equality does not mean same. It good to acknowledge differences because if we don't we can end up minimising people's experience.

MotherofGorgons · 28/01/2024 07:50

In that case PoC should also have their differences and struggles acknowledged. They are significantly less likely to be employed, listened to, followed etc etc. Probably several other categories of people also should have their struggles acknowledged.

Or, you know, we could just assume that everyone on a show called Traitors knows they have to lie and be lied to. If they are not prepared for that, don't sign up. It's a bit like signing up to The Voice and complaining that you are a terrible singer, but you are a "good and decent person", and therefore deserve a pass.

As for this "centuries of women being lied to", watch Oz and US. Plenty of women lying and manipulating men wonderfully. British women seem not very good at it, but other nationalities are fabulous!

lizzowhiz · 28/01/2024 07:52

Re late recruitment of traitors, someone said 'If they don't accept, they will likely be murdered, like Alex was last year.'

Possibly but probably far less likely than if they do accept. Presumably the person who declined would tell the group that the traitors attempted to recruit them. The whole group dynamics could then raise suspicions and point to clues which makes things more risky for the traitors.

Haven’t you already been asked not to talk about details of overseas series on here? I appreciate it’s not a huge spoiler but if people watch those series and see female traitors, they’re young to assume they do well going by what you said.

MothersofGorgons · 28/01/2024 07:55

How on earth is that a spoiler? I was told we can discuss other series, just not the outcome. Sorry, not buying that is a spoiler at all, given there are lots of women. Report it to MN if you want, but I am not deleting that. It's a very general comment.

If they accept, they can't be murdered! But past a certain point they are only recruiting for cannon fodder, which is one reason I'd like it to stop there. If you're recruited late then they obviously think you're ripe for banishment so I guess you can choose whether to sacrifice yourself and lose the Traitors that advantage, or accept so you can see who they are and at least attempt to get them first.

There aren’t “lots” of women though.
It’s not an outright spoiler no. But it’s a hint that they do pretty well.
