Anyone starting this today? It's with Michelle Keegan. 8 Episodes.

I’m bemused by the posters saying they like MK’s wardrobe…99% of it involved a flipping white short-sleeved top I think?

susiedaisy1912 · 12/01/2024 09:24

Michelle, is that you?

Lol, not quite as glamorous or rich, sadly! Just someone who enjoys a bit of shit tv that holds my attention!

I've decided to give 'Safe' another go. Turns out I'd never got past the second episode of that series so am watching episode three. Planning to catch up on the others I've missed too.

RampantIvy · 13/01/2024 14:29

We rewatched The Stranger recently. The story is as implausible, but it had a better cast.

namechanger563 · 13/01/2024 14:51

I’ve just started this, I’m near the end of episode 1. Does it get better? Not sure I can look past the trivialisation of sexual assault, just because the female main character did it to a male. Roles reversed and it would be an 8 part show about her getting revenge on him.

the80sweregreat · 13/01/2024 17:36

I thought I hadn't seen 'the stranger' until I watched the first episode and realized I had !

Lisbeth50 · 13/01/2024 17:46

I gave up on this after episode 6. I have read and enjoyed the book but didn't like this at all.

I can't remember too much about the book but couldn't follow what on Earth was going on in the series!

In the book, the nanny notices the photo frame camera thing because Maya has no photos or pictures anywhere so it stands out as odd. Maya also checks the camera everyday for a while before Joe appears on film whereas in the series, it seems to be instant.

BinkyBeaufort · 13/01/2024 21:50

Just finished after putting the last 2 episodes on hold for a week or two.
Such tosh, bad acting, terrible dialogue and more holes than a colander, but had to see it through just to find out whether the detective is ok. Sod Maya and her ghastly husband, I was just concerned for Kierce.

Jellywobblescobbles · 13/01/2024 23:01

haha I enjoyed it.

JellyBeanFactory · 14/01/2024 00:00

We enjoyed it here too, watched 2 episodes a night over the past 4 evenings.

Spoilers.....

I "guessed" Maya was guilty of joes murder about halfway through Ep 6 and twigged about the guns.

I loved the Detective and his sidekick. The twist of his illusions reminded me of Fight Club.

I assume Shane was in love with Maya and his actions that might have looked shady were his way of protecting her.

Lots of plot-holes and distracting side stories but enjoyable for a mindless entertainment.

So much wrong with this series, I love Harlan Coben books but this adaption feels like its been done as part of a 6th form drama project. If you're going to circle around a supposed military theme at least get the uniforms right!!

No Staff Sergeant in the RMP would have hair like that, be unshaven on duty, wear the wrong cap badge and wear it over the right eye instead of the left.

What Maya was wearing in the opening few minutes was not military uniform, it was something out of Cheryl Cole's 'fight for this love' music video.

She's discharged from the army yet she gets to go to an indoor pistol range every 10 mins...... in the real military world you have range days 3 or 4 times a year depending on which branch you are in, they are ALWAYS outside AND there is always a range officer there, you don't just turn up, pick up a weapon and start blatting off rounds.

I wish I could have turned off and forgotten this whole sorry mess but the Mrs is heavily invested and has said "this is quite good this" 🤯😱😭

Shockingly bad, that's all I can say

I'm glad I'm not the only one. We watched one episode last night, and it made me angry how crap it was. Dreadful script. It's totally unrealistic.
I mean, if I saw my dead husband on camera, my first thought wouldn't be where's his shirt? I would watch the whole thing at normal speed, with sound. I also wouldn't believe a toddler shaking her head over actual filmed footage. Every single sentence uttered seemed to be deliberate to move the plot along, they probably thought it was "fast-paced" but actually was just stupid. But the football coach saying a couple of mild criticisms then her pulling his pants down was the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen.
I'm surprised Joanna Lumley agreed to this very poor quality script. Definitely 6th form drama project vibe.

NecklessMumster · 14/01/2024 12:44

Omg, so many questions, mainly why did I keep watching. But why did her sister in law say payments were going to Kierce/ say she'd seen Joe?/was supposed to be in a psych unit/ keep running around looking aghast ? Why did Kierce go to see whistleblower instead of the Burketts at the end? Etc etc

GCAcademic · 14/01/2024 16:47

I think all those details that people are confused about were inserted to throw you off the scent, irrespective of whether they made sense or not. Red herrings on steroids. It's really lazy writing.

mum2jakie · 14/01/2024 19:06

Have finally managed to place where I recognise the bearded Irish friend from. He was a police officer in The Tower. He's also in Safe, another HC series on Netflix. Watched the end of Safe this weekend - Fool Me Once is the far better series of the two.

EasterIssland · 14/01/2024 22:02

Have started today and watched half the series I think. Will read the comments once I finish as don’t want spoilers. But I kept thinking is this a continuation of MK previos series? Does she know how to perform any other roles not army and trauma related ?

eternalopt · 16/01/2024 22:01

Gave up after episode 4 and read a spoiler instead! Couldn't face losing any more time to it but wanted to know what happened!

BintuBombatu · 16/01/2024 22:03

I’ve been walking around my house shouting “Tommy Daaaaaaaark” in a Northern accent all week.

Anyone else?

Freysimo · 19/01/2024 13:29

I'm about half way through the series but must have nodded off at some point as I've no idea who Tommy Dark is? Debating whether to carry on or not.

Molly70 · 20/01/2024 00:35

Tommy Dark was the captain of the boat when Andrew was killed. He saw Joe push Andrew into the sea apparently

Kangaboo · 20/01/2024 12:42

This was a truly dreadful series.

Sisters adopted child sub plot pointless.
Maya’s friendships (female & male) pointless subplots
Maya exploring murders of people when she already knew who the murderers were pointless.

Daughter (Lily?) having a baby at 21 & the people visiting her in the maternity ward were 3 old blokes 1) her uncle/guardian (fair enough) 2) her mums old friend from 18 years ago (unlikely) 3) the police officer who worked on the case where her mum ended up dead 18 years ago (LOL!!!)

Tessisme · 20/01/2024 13:11

It was complete tosh. But I watched the lot! I honestly can't be bothered dwelling on how far fetched it was or critiquing the plot holes, as that would afford it a status and credibility it doesn't deserve. But it was bloody good fun and I have switched off plenty of dramas after one episode. I wasn't overly impressed with Michelle Keegan's acting. She was a bit expressionless and I honestly didn't care if she lived or died. I was also annoyingly diverted by how she moved her mouth when she spoke. Adeel Akhtar, on the other hand, was very engaging and I very much cared if he lived or died.

KimberleyClark · 20/01/2024 15:19

We just watched Gone for Good, a French adaptation of another Harlan Coben novel and thought it was a hell of a lot better tbh.

BlackWitchyCat · 21/01/2024 23:50

SPOILER!!!!!

"it didn't make sense how she was running around nearly the whole series trying to find out whi killed her sister and husband when she knew her husband killed her sister and she killed him because he killed her"

Exactly!!!!

I think the people that say MK can't act just don't like the accent. I'm more northern than she is but it makes a nice change to hear something different.

I really dislike her husband. Are we supposed to find him attractive?? He was pervy in that first scene.

How different was the friend (Shane ) without his beard?

What was the 18 years later about? Were we to believed they had aged???

BlackWitchyCat · 21/01/2024 23:50

@Ilovecakey

BlackWitchyCat · 21/01/2024 23:55

SPOILER

Did anyone notice when the kid went missing on the drive she was stood next to a bush and said "daddy" as though he was there. Then his car was on the drive. (I know Maya said she was using it). I thought she might have been in on it then.
