Just watched tonight's episode...

Poor George.. didn't see that coming

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2024 12:59

I Wonder about George's real mum now!

NadiaCravensworth · 14/02/2024 13:01

I'm mis remembering, George was boxing when the murder happened, but the murder victim was a student? in 1984?

anyone got a pic of the newspaper article scene?

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2024 13:42

There is a screenshot of the article below and it's dated 1984

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 14/02/2024 14:48

I found today’s episode quite distressing. George was excellent.

I found today’s episode quite distressing. George was excellent.

I was going to say the same thing... as the episode went on - and haven't watched all of it... I was getting more distressed and George is/was great.

The very sad thing is there are still men/women like George's DM/DF around who still don't think what they do/say is wrong whether it's if you're homosexual, black, Jewish etc. Sad.

thanks I knew i saw 1984 somewhere

From eastenders wiki
George:

Age Between 50 and 59
Date of Birth Between 1965 and 1974

So if the murder victim was a student in 1984, and George was aware of him, how old was he when he was a student?
if George was born in 1974 (at the latest), then to be the father, surely he would need to be at least 18, which would make him 28 at least?

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 14/02/2024 15:05

George said he was 15 in 1984. The guy could have been a mature student.

JemimaTab · 14/02/2024 16:30

I think in 1984, if he was an overseas student, he was more likely to be a mature student or postgrad student (going by my own experience from that time).

Southeastdweller · 04/01/2024 19:46

George isn’t mixed race so Gloria can’t be his biological mother.

Maybe the biological parents were killed by Gloria and / or Eddie?

You called this back in January!

the80sweregreat · 15/02/2024 12:19

Maybe George's real dad was a student in Ghana , but only came over to find his child?
They must have paid Eddie and Gloria to have him as it was mentioned before they received money etc

the80sweregreat · 15/02/2024 13:05

Blimey! Linda today 😲

Theatrefan12 · 15/02/2024 14:01

Well well well that was a bit of a shocker

Eastenders has been great this week

Guess new head Johnny may be sticking about now

the80sweregreat · 15/02/2024 14:12

Will new head Johnny be a bent lawyer and help his mum or shop her to the police ? ( two of which live across the road?)
Or she'll probably talk herself out of it like they always do! ' I was joking / drunk / didn't mean it ' or whatever?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 15/02/2024 14:28

Just caught up on this - what will Johnny do? What would you do?

I can see George has done the right thing. Will he now try to research his real dad's family in was it, Ghana, where he was from?

Some tough storylines this week, the one on Weds night was especially gritty but very well done by all of them.

Mrsjayy · 15/02/2024 14:45

hi I've not been here in ages because I've been deleting some of the episodes because they have been so awful and Nish and Kat are revolting and need to just stop!
anyway I've been watching this week and it's been superb last night my heart was in my mouth it was distressing to watch as Pp have said but It was well done Eddie and Gloria are the worst kind of people poor George.

the80sweregreat · 15/02/2024 15:05

I was distracted a bit by Johnny's lips !
Looks like some filler there
Not sure what I'd do in his shoes tbh
He loves his mum so much
I think he'll keep quiet myself

I think in 1984, if he was an overseas student, he was more likely to be a mature student or postgrad student (going by my own experience from that time).

What's interesting is that in 1970s there were a few overseas students or workers at least from Greece/Portugal and South/Central America. Who either ran off when they found or their GF was pregnant or the relationship didn't last long anyway, maybe due to the race aspect. My best friend at primary school found out when she was 11 that her real dad was Greek/Portugese - her DM later on in her teens when her parents got divorced either wouldn't or couldn't remember details. Another schoolfriend who was brought up by her grandma and her DM used to come and visit found out in her teens that her dad was from South/Central America but again, radio silence from her DM or only naming certain details. DB's ex GF in his late teens is bi racial, her mum is white. She knew her real dad was black but her mum used to use Mr Brown for him, which she now knows was a name to get her not to ask more questions. She assumed he was Jamaican and from Manchester (Moss Side?) as that's where they lived, but despite even a DNA test has no idea of his real name or any relatives as her DM never told her, or only snippets. I find the behaviour of the real bio mothers here disgusting as the children deserve to know their roots and their other families whether it's their father or mother's side.

You wouldn't think it now but even in 00's I had a boyfriend who referred to Italians etc as 'greebos' (greasy boys) - he was white with Irish parents from both north and south Ireland and from Enfield, and of course I put him right, but that was 'racist'. I've got a friend from Cyprus who was born in London and he's received racist comments and looks and been chased by football fans after he helped man a hamburger/hot dog stall outside Stamford Bridge when he was in his teens, he's in his mid 50s now.

So it's not always just against black people or Asian etc.

Blimey! Linda today 😲

She's been great as have Denise's actress and Amy's character recently. All 3 should be up for best actress at soap awards and Amy definitely as a younger actress. Or Denzil.

MichaelAndEagle · 15/02/2024 19:47

Couple of excellent episodes there! Just caught up with today and yesterday. Every now and then they really pull it out the bag and I feel like standing up and clapping at the tele when it's finished!!

Meredusoleil · 15/02/2024 19:59

Good on George telling his 'mum' he never wants to see her again 👏

the80sweregreat · 15/02/2024 20:31

Colin salmon is a good actor though
Very convincing as George

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/02/2024 21:56

I binged watched but nodded off so I missed some of it .

Jack buying Dee and Stacey similar bracelets from he stall next to the BapVan has he lost control of his single braincell?

I don't like Sausage , I think it's his top lip he looks like a pouty toddler .
Do Eastenders have any lawyers who are above board?

Marcus Christie
Richie
Gray
Eve
Johnny Sausage
Nadine the Law Student Escort

I think only Sharons lawyer was legit

He needs to win an award for that episode! I usually scroll when I watch, I barely moved when he was on screen Wednesday. He was incredible, although the storyline is incredibly distressing.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 15/02/2024 22:53

Amy is great this week I agree.
