A no spoiler tv pace thread please.

A pestilence of mammoth proportions in the shape of toothy pubic lice for those who escape from the twat field and may any unsocked feet sweat enough to give you bulbous blisters….

Waiting for clips - only info is ‘coming soon’….

Ooh, that looks ok. Want to see celebrity race across the world too

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2023 11:33

Rightyho.

I did say I was going to be mute because I couldn’t think of anything nice to say. I still can’t but I will unzip slightly and will try to be as polite (aye - my arse) as I can.

This is exploiting both parties involved and anyone who was complicit in not being completely transparent from the get go to anyone involved - and yes the bride should have insisted too - should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

This isn’t about a cheesy Tv programme or indeed about love any more. It is all about generating headlines.

For me, the groom was damned however how he reacted. And that is horrendous.

The bride is being used because they aren’t like every other bride and have been chosen for the ‘shock value’. Don’t tell me differently because I won’t believe it. However you choose to look at it and however some choose to live and however accepting some may be of that choice, honesty matters because ultimately biology matters.

A pair of pom pom tits does not change matters.

Whatever illusion I was under that this could still be turned round to be about love has finally been broken. I knew deep down it was exploitative, sensationalist pish but I dared to dream.

The reality is that whether the cast (for that is what they are) be there for fame and fortune or for love, no one in charge wants that. They want shit and fireworks.

And as for the statement below?

'In all other ways, the integrity of the format was preserved. Our priority during matchmaking is to protect the wellbeing of the cast and create compatible matches, based on detailed assessment of individual preferences, as part of an in-depth, careful matchmaking process.'

I have never read such pishy denial. Careful my arse. Nasty is what is is.

Did I misread the article? It seems to me that it says they were transparent with the groom ahead of the "marriage", but the duplicity is in pretending to the viewers that they didn't.

I think it's best that they did tell him, but then they shouldn't pretend otherwise on the broadcast.

Makes you wonder about a few other things. Maybe "he's not what I ordered!" was scripted too?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2023 12:06

They were transparent but too late.

The time to be transparent is on the application form.

OP posts:
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2023 12:13

The last few series? I’ve no doubt that the viewers are being duped.

Not only is it ‘not what we ordered’, but it isn’t what it says on the tin.

If I wanted fucking edgy sensationalist telly, I’d transport myself back to the 90s and watch Eurotrash and The Word. And be off my decidedly non pompommy tits on Grolsch.

None of this is a surprise, is it Sheldy my love? Totally saw this coming.

Majorly irresponsible. How many years is it since MAFS started? It truly was about matching folk up for a hopeful happy ever after. Now it's all about shock value and manipulation. So much has changed in such a short time. Using folk in a horrible and dangerous way. Duty of care and the emotional wellbeing of their participants? Pah! They think folk are up for it all by applying and to fuck with the consequences.

Sunbird24 · 14/09/2023 12:28

Is it enough to finally stop us watching it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2023 12:29

They ruined what we liked about it and what drew us in in the first place, genuine people looking for love, just to make it the same as all the other crap full of wannabes.

I'll do anything to get on TV is the norm now and something normal would be the shocking segment if The Word was current.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2023 12:29

Duty of care and the emotional wellbeing of their participants? Pah!

Quite my lovely bow

I’ve seen my arse. It is bad enough having those desperate for love who also display as hugely vulnerable on the show. But to do this is another low because this could be very damaging indeed for both participants.

And you are right. It probably was always coming.

I just kind of hoped it wouldn’t. Not without full and absolute transparency that it was a possibility anyway.

It doesn’t seem as though this was the case.

I love fluffy shite telly that I don’t have to think about. This isn’t that now.

This is the modern day version of Gladiators.

The Colosseum ones. Not the ‘gladiators - are you ready ones’.

I’m not sure Sunbird. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thats the truth of it flower.

It isn’t as though we can avoid the more negative moments or indeed the reactions of the other contestants.

‘Sake. 😖

After the last MAFSAUS, I listened to a lot of the interviews with the participants and all of them said they were misrepresented, scenes were edited, to create a certain narrative, and although I knew that this went on, it made me feel how much we, the audience were being manipulated, and it really put me off the show. It now seems to be all about sensationa lism, headlines and Twitter outrage. This is just the latest, most cynical iteration. So disappointing, as I loved the initial premise of the show!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/09/2023 12:47

@Appalonia that doesn't surprise me, sadly.

Not sure I dare mention this, but how does everyone feel about Big Brother starting soon? It was groundbreaking in It's day, but probably responsible to the way all reality TV is now. Is it too much to hope that they may have gone 'back to basics'? - I don't think it's even possible. I loved the first couple of series as it genuinely was about human interaction. To think back to Nasty Nick being called out on his sneaky behaviour. All very tame by today's standards.

MiraculousLadybird · 14/09/2023 13:03

It is enough for me not to bother watching this year. That, coupled (hah!) with the ridiculous number of episodes. It's just engineered shock value nonsense now.

RIP original format, genuine and sweet MAFS. You were exactly what I ordered. 💔

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2023 13:07

Good point cariad.

As a social experiment it was interesting. I suspect, like so many other reality Tv programmes it will now be about attracting those who are fame or notoriety hungry, together with those chasing the influencah dollar and those who should maybe consider treatment of a therapeutic kind.

The only saving grace may be the channel it will be on. They will probably be (more) mindful of the participants than others are appearing to be.

It won’t be reality though that is for sure.

Sylvia Young (other talent schools are available) pupils could learn a thing or twelvety from the acting that will be on there.

Nobody will want to damage their anticipated brand by being real.

MAFS that is.

Stressybetty · 14/09/2023 14:55

Chiming in to say this is really disappointing, we all knew there was a level of fakery and purposeful drama inventing and staging. But to use a transgender woman to pull a stunt like this is crass and completely unnecessary. We will still watch it I think but as with the Australian version, take everything with a very hearty pinch of salt. What are pom pom tits btw? Those that are very pert and look stuck on?

LadyEloise1 · 14/09/2023 17:33

MiraculousLadybird · 25/08/2023 17:31

I will watch this because I can't stop myself but I mourn the loss of the original MAFS UK format. 4 couples, no instashit, they were all quite normal and in it for vaguely the 'right' reasons.

As reality TV shows about lifelong commitments to absolute strangers go, it was all quite wholesome and understated. Those days have gone 😞
