Have been in a bit of a dry spell for a while; I am admittedly very fussy...!

I am not too bothered about genre (though comedy is least favourite); any drama really, sci-fi, thriller, historical... Though it has to have a really amazing script, well-written, believable, well-developed characters and, as a bonus, a flawed hero that I can fall a bit in love with... I do also get put off by poor IMDB scores 😅

I am a bit impatient, so if it hasn't gripped me by the first episode, I usually give up (though have given some a few episodes before doing so!).

I have loved:

The Americans (possibly all-time favourite!)
Breaking Bad
The Vampire Diaries
The Handmaid's Tale (the last two series less so)
Buffy
Firefly
Hannibal
Line of Duty (up to about series 4!)
13 Reasons Why series 1 😳

Quite enjoyed:

Quacks
Ghosts
Bridgerton
Narcos
Black mirror
Under the Banner of Heaven
True Detective
Broadchurch series 1
Criminal: UK
Dopesick

Tried to like, but couldn't get into:

Grey's Anatomy
Homeland
Fringe
Ozark
Band of Brothers
This is us
Justified
Peaky Blinders
Happy Valley
The Serpant
24
The Hour
Our Friends in the North
True Blood
Dexter

Series I am considering...(!):

Toby Fleischman is in Trouble
The Alienist
Penny Dreadful
Money Heist
Daisy Jones and the Six
Fargo

Help!

anothermnuser123 · 12/08/2023 19:40

If you liked vampire diaries, then the originals. Beef on netflix is very good.

DudeItsPrawns · 12/08/2023 19:40

Toby Fleichmann and Daisy Jones are good from your list.

So is Halt and Catch Fire (C4)
Will Trent and The Patient on Disney.

Not on your list but Madame Secretary. On UK tv play now in UK. Really strong characters, especially Teo Leoni. Plots are political so perhaps a little boring, but a wonderful change as NOT about cheating husbands blah blah.

Lark Rise to Candleford is on UKtv too. Quite charming and very watchable.

stayathomer · 12/08/2023 19:53

Bear- oh god I loved it! Hated first episode then was hooked!

Redannie118 · 12/08/2023 19:53

Penny dreadfull is outstanding. One of the best tv series i have ever seen with an incredible cast and movie level special effects. Very dramatic and incredibly sad in places which i didnt expect.

I was utterly obsessed with Daisy Jones and the 6. I watched it when it was on a week by week basis and was thinking about it the whole week!! If you are looking for a flawed, good looking leading man, this is for you.

If you liked black mirror, have you tried Years and years? It basically black mirror written by RusselL T Davis. I was thinking about it for months afterwards !

Bluebellsbells · 12/08/2023 19:54

Netflix virgin river is definitely binge worthy

Datafan55 · 12/08/2023 19:54

(also very strong female characters in MSec - and eg the husband taking more care of the kids. Very refreshing)

MalibuBetty · 12/08/2023 19:56

Queen of the South is brilliant on Netflix

PixiePirate · 12/08/2023 19:56

Orange is the New Black
Designated Survivor
Silent Witness (early series)
Young Sheldon

mynameiscalypso · 12/08/2023 19:56

I'm going to start Painkiller on Netflix tonight

Sunnydays41 · 12/08/2023 19:57

Thanks for these, will have a look through!

Should have said I have also tried Schitts Creek (2 or 3 episodes) and totally not my thing... Also tried Succession to no avail... I am definitely not a huge comedy fan (in addition to Ghosts and Quacks in my original list, The Thick of It is probably the only other comedy I've quite enjoyed).

The Originals I have also tried and I don't know why, but I also couldn't get into it...

Thanks for the recommendations on those!

I missed it off, but I did watch Years and Years fairly recently, one for the middle list I think! 😁 It was very watchable, though I wasn't that impressed by the ending...

The West Wing

Almost perfect television

SaveThisUsername · 12/08/2023 20:05

I really enjoyed Maid and Unbelievable, both very gripping.

BlossomWood · 12/08/2023 20:05

Short and sweet series to binge, Colin from accounts

magicalkitty · 12/08/2023 20:06

You loved The Vampire Diaries - have you watched The Originals? All 5 seasons are on ITVx.

DanceWithTheBigBoysAgain · 12/08/2023 20:06

A Discovery of Witches. Utter tosh, but fulfills the swoon worthy leading man criterion.

Slow Horses. Amazing, although I don't think you'll fall for Gary Oldman as the lead.
