Have been in a bit of a dry spell for a while; I am admittedly very fussy...!

I am not too bothered about genre (though comedy is least favourite); any drama really, sci-fi, thriller, historical... Though it has to have a really amazing script, well-written, believable, well-developed characters and, as a bonus, a flawed hero that I can fall a bit in love with... I do also get put off by poor IMDB scores 😅

I am a bit impatient, so if it hasn't gripped me by the first episode, I usually give up (though have given some a few episodes before doing so!).

I have loved:

The Americans (possibly all-time favourite!)
Breaking Bad
The Vampire Diaries
The Handmaid's Tale (the last two series less so)
Buffy
Firefly
Hannibal
Line of Duty (up to about series 4!)
13 Reasons Why series 1 😳

Quite enjoyed:

Quacks
Ghosts
Bridgerton
Narcos
Black mirror
Under the Banner of Heaven
True Detective
Broadchurch series 1
Criminal: UK
Dopesick

Tried to like, but couldn't get into:

Grey's Anatomy
Homeland
Fringe
Ozark
Band of Brothers
This is us
Justified
Peaky Blinders
Happy Valley
The Serpant
24
The Hour
Our Friends in the North
True Blood
Dexter

Series I am considering...(!):

Toby Fleischman is in Trouble
The Alienist
Penny Dreadful
Money Heist
Daisy Jones and the Six
Fargo

Help!

I really loved Le Bureau, a series about the French secret service on Prime. It has fantastic characters - definitely a flawed lead - and lots of twists. Good if you don't mind subtitles.

Also another French one - Call My Agent, about a Paris talent agency. I've watched it 4 times.

Lost in Austen was great, if you loved the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice.

Spirited - about an Australian dentist who falls in over with the ghost of a rock star.

Brain Dead on Prime. About aliens taking over Washington. Very funny and dark.

@Sunnydays41

Ah just skipped back to read your OP and seen The Americans on the list! I'm always suggesting it. Bones is great several people where I work are currently watching it. We have just started Criminal Minds on reccomendation from a few people but only a series in. It's good so far.

Yes, me too! Loved the characters and how it was just as much about the relationships as it was the espionage. The ending was pretty perfect too.

Manifest is amazing

The Leftovers - best ever series (and I've watched all the tele). It really picks up in season 2 and you will be bereft at the end of it all.

Mindhunter - it's a crime they aren't making more series!

Le Bureau looks good.

I have actually watched (most of) Spirited... Thought it was quite sweet, but somehow my interest waned a bit towards the end!

Another vote for Supernatural. I'd never really tried it before, but saw the whole thing was on Prime, and decided to give it a whirl from the beginning. Basically addicted. Now nearing the end of the final season and do not want it to finish.

TeaDrinker247 · 12/08/2023 21:58

Hijack - Apple TV - Idris Elba. We could have watched it all in one go. It was such a great series.

Paq · 12/08/2023 22:00

Not an ongoing series but Fifteen-Love is astonishingly good.

tennissquare · 12/08/2023 22:03

The Americans is also my all time favourite.
I would also support
Better Call Saul
Why Women Kill
Fleishman is in trouble

Plus I'm a fan is Taylor Sheridan and all his shows on Paramount Plus via Sky - 1883, 1923, Yellowstone and currently Lioness

Your Honor on Paramount is one if the best series I have seen in years. It's superb! From plot to acting - absolutely amazing.

Drops of God (Apple TV) - also brilliant and absolutely beautifully shot, but completely different

@Sunnydays41 Money Heist is amazing! It took me a few attempts to get into it but I actually enjoyed it more than breaking bad.
