Have been in a bit of a dry spell for a while; I am admittedly very fussy...!

I am not too bothered about genre (though comedy is least favourite); any drama really, sci-fi, thriller, historical... Though it has to have a really amazing script, well-written, believable, well-developed characters and, as a bonus, a flawed hero that I can fall a bit in love with... I do also get put off by poor IMDB scores 😅

I am a bit impatient, so if it hasn't gripped me by the first episode, I usually give up (though have given some a few episodes before doing so!).

I have loved:

The Americans (possibly all-time favourite!)
Breaking Bad
The Vampire Diaries
The Handmaid's Tale (the last two series less so)
Buffy
Firefly
Hannibal
Line of Duty (up to about series 4!)
13 Reasons Why series 1 😳

Quite enjoyed:

Quacks
Ghosts
Bridgerton
Narcos
Black mirror
Under the Banner of Heaven
True Detective
Broadchurch series 1
Criminal: UK
Dopesick

Tried to like, but couldn't get into:

Grey's Anatomy
Homeland
Fringe
Ozark
Band of Brothers
This is us
Justified
Peaky Blinders
Happy Valley
The Serpant
24
The Hour
Our Friends in the North
True Blood
Dexter

Series I am considering...(!):

Toby Fleischman is in Trouble
The Alienist
Penny Dreadful
Money Heist
Daisy Jones and the Six
Fargo

Help!

crumpet · 12/08/2023 22:19

(Latest series of outlander has been good - much better than series 4)

Ihatemondays1962 · 12/08/2023 22:21

The Queen's Gambit is very good. I see Money Heist is on your list and I really enjoyed that.

rainydogday · 12/08/2023 22:21

Last kingdom
Vikings
For a bit of cheesy brilliance, This is Us and Firefly Lane

Ha! You're right.

Very embarrassed and fairly scared that I was so mistaken for so many years. Jesus... And no one corrected me until you. I'll crawl into my corner of shame now.

Sunnydays41 · 12/08/2023 22:37

Thanks for all of these, a lot to get my teeth into!

To list some of the ones I've missed:

Also loved the Queen's Gambit and Fleabag...

Started but couldn't get into:

The Last Kingdom
Severance
Big Little Lies
The Affair
The Detectorists
The Leftovers
Poldark
You

World on fire on BBC iplayer. Brilliantly written drama about WW2.

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 12/08/2023 22:59

Gossip girl. It's a bit coming of age batshit crazy but I enjoyed it - missed it first time round as I was in middle of a divorce but glad I finally got round to watching it

caringcarer · 12/08/2023 23:31

On Amazon Prime Survivor Australia season 10.

anothermnuser123 · 12/08/2023 23:36

@AngryGreasedSantaCatcus easy mistake to make. I broke my DDs friends heart the other day when I told her Matt Bomer was gay...never mind he is much older than her, lives in a different country and not likely to ever have had a shot with him had he been straight 😂 but she was still devastated.

Offredismysister · 13/08/2023 09:12

I’m watching mayor of Kingstown on paramount at the minute. It’s so good. Jeremy Renner is the flawed hero.

Winniewonka · 13/08/2023 19:21

Amazing Mrs Maisel on Amazon is hilariously funny and the attention to detail for late 50s/early 60s New York is outstanding. Fabulous clothes, music. It's a bit of a slow burner for the first couple of episodes but I was soon hooked and there's five series.

Boodahh · 13/08/2023 20:33

Toby Fleischman is good. I was about to give up on it after episode 1, but decided to continue. Pleased I did as its very good.

I liked a few of the Fargo series also.

wizbit93 · 13/08/2023 21:26

Spooks - an oldy but great. I'm on my third rewatch! (10 series!)
Silent witness
Whitechapel
Strike
Departure is worth a watch, new series just started (series 3) might be channel 4, or sky?

Kdubs1981 · 13/08/2023 22:15

@Sunnydays41 with supernatural I'd say stop at series 5. Patchy after then

friskybivalves · 13/08/2023 22:40

Fauda is really really excellent

Foundation (Apple) there's also a podcast and the showrunner has a website with additional notes
Chesapeake Shores (Netflix) if you are fed up with the rainy weather here

Although I would only recommend Chesapeake Shores because of the scenery!

orangelotus · 15/08/2023 23:41

painkillers? amazing dramatisation of a a real life issue

grumpycow1 · 15/08/2023 23:42

Succession

omgsally · 15/08/2023 23:49

Catastrophe.
Fleabag.
Schittz Creek. No one loves it at first. You have to push on through and gradually it worms its way in and then BAM, you're hooked!!
Seinfeld.
Emily in Paris is a load of fluff but it's fun and easy watching.

I am slightly obsessed with Gossip Girl and having never seen it before the start of this Summer, I’m an embarrassingly large number of episodes in! The fashion makes me smile in the early series too. Very easy watching but something about the way Serena speaks is irritating. Can’t work out what!
