Omg. Tonight’s Lola’s death was beautifully done. I sobbed. Im away - blondes in the sun - A great look round the pool !!

ben Didn’t make it back. He will now go on even more of a downer

poor lexi. Least she has jay

Lily is now maybe 6mths preg and still no ss about 🙄🙄

Denise and Jack made up and Chelsea and Ravi are making out

Stacey is still poor tho still not sure why

Stacey burger van cleaning
Jean cleaning
Harvey taxi
Freddy fish shop
Eve on nish payroll

yet always in the pub

Reiss has a secret wife Debbie who will have to die

it hard he’s a boring pompous fart. Sonja deserves someone more sexy. He needs a shave and glasses to go and then he’s sexy. But still a drip

suki and eve seem to have stopped for the moment

Linda and mum running the pub. And sure her old man will come soon

freddie and his adhd needed to be sorted

Phil is still soooooo rich and giving money to one and all - wish I had his money tree ans now paying for the funeral and I assume will help with the rent

So beautifully done, and thought they balanced the tension well with the snapping about the nail polish, so not overegging the sentiment.

Totally agree with your point about it not being OTT. They didn't have Ben making it to her bedside in the nick of time, Jay was understandably cranky, Jay was in the loo when she passed ...
I like that it wasn't all saccharin sweet.

Me too. Also that Phil stayed true to form by not being able to cope with public emotion and left pronto. And, of course, we know he's admitted to feeling guilty about the way he treated Lola in the past.

So at least not hypocritical, I suppose?

AquamarineNoseStud · 31/05/2023 23:38

Quite clever that the rough night weather and fox barking reflected the turmoil of everyone during Lola's last hours, to be replaced by a calm and beautiful dawn and the fox (Lola's spirit?) leaving the Square...

(I am probably reading way too much into that!)

SoupDragon · 31/05/2023 23:42

I mean, I know she's due to die this week (I'm a day behind) but was it really necessary to shout it in a thread title?

No, that was literally what it represented

I've watched it, but thought the same as you re the title 😬
I only knew it was tonight because i googled this afternoon when it would air

heartbroken22 · 01/06/2023 02:40

I feel a bit guilty since a couple of us posted last year that they needed to get rid of Lola because she's tedious and boring. I'd do anything to have her character back. I know they watch forums and things to see what or who is popular....but they made Lola's death such a tragedy it's awful.

Gingerkittykat · 01/06/2023 04:00

Reiss is very obviously coded as autistic with some pretty stereotypical behaviour like his love of facts, social awkwardness and obsessions.

I'm autistic and not sure I like the portrayal at all.

I think it's going to be a bit like Roy in coronation street, everyone thinks he is a weirdo but then people gradually warm to him.

Inthedarkagain · 01/06/2023 08:16

EE have done a great job with the Lola storyline. I think a more accurate portrayal is more moving than going OTT. My only criticism was of Billy losing it and Nish being a twat. Not needed, but I guess you needed someone to be unsympathetic and not understanding because that is life.

I don't mind Reiss, he is a bit stereotypical of a portrayal of high functioning autism if he is, but he might be NT and just have these traits. I think it was good when Karen's two boys were in it as the actors had LD, so it was more genuine. EE hasn't touched on the struggles people have with children having additional needs or serious illnesses and not being able to get support from services. In EE you immediately get access to help with no wait whatsoever. It would help a lot of people to see this struggle. I 'm guessing would be too political to portray services falling apart like in real life!

I think there is abit of comedy character about Reiss, which might upset some people. In a sea of gobby, swaggering characters he is quite refreshing IMO.

The problem with this is that she became a crap character, and it's only this big storyline that showed that she's really a good actress, and how brilliant Jay, Honey and Billy can be too.
This happened with another character too, altho I can't think who itwas off the top of my head

Don't feel bad she'll be back again 10 years undead. But like Den/Caff and probably Mick

TenseTessa · 01/06/2023 09:27

Mick will be back - no doubt.

I think so too.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2023 10:36

Not a spoiler at all , but I suppose Danny Dyer's other work may well not be as lucrative or as good and he'll start hearing the mutterings about how Mick was loved , how much his missed and so on he'll return one Christmas or for their fortieth anniversary or some time big in the EE 'calendar ' and he'll say ' hello L '
( as she is about to kiss Alfie Moon , her new fiancé under the mistletoe or hosting a Halloween party or something)
I think the Vic needs a new lease of life , I have high hopes for Elaine , but it's clear her and Linda don't always get on that well.

agreed re the Vic - hopefully Linda's mum's storyline/secret will start soon

Mrsjayy · 01/06/2023 11:03

My sky box is down so can't watch it! So just peacemaking, I'm not really keen on the new Elaine but I expect she will grow on me.

The 2 programmes Danny Dyer has done for ch4 have been absolute tripe !

Snipples · 31/05/2023 23:27

@CherryCokeFanatic when Jay was talking to Lola and saying his goodbyes he said it wasn't really goodbye as they would be together again and might come back as something else. He then said Lola would come back as a fox as she was sassy etc. and he'd be happy to come back as a rat as long as he got to be with her.

Thanks must have missed that line

CherryCokeFanatic · 01/06/2023 11:08

Had tonight spoiled for me by Good Morning Britain

Yes as thread is tv paced

I did it about two hours after been shown on tv as needed new thread

Even I worked out she would die wed and I avoid all spoilers

But I watched it around 9-930 so way after it had been shown on tv

I've always said once been on tv fair game to talk about it

I thought Honey came into her own. So good to see her as something more than resident airhead, enforcing silly rules in the market, or misunderstanding double entendres.
In her acting this week, even making tea, I've seen so much of my female relatives when we were in the same situation.

the80sweregreat · 01/06/2023 13:26

Honey has been good .
It is natural to want to do things like make tea or food for people in times of crisis or bereavement. It's how people cope with things
