Yes I agree. Why aren’t they horrified at a child of 12 having a baby? And it’s hardly likely she will go on to academically achieve all they’re telling her she can. It’s a silly storyline to be honest. Most parents would be outraged.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 09:14

They were horrified at Lily at first , but allowing her to make her own mind up meant she chose to have the baby
Jack was demanding she should consider a termination , but he was shot down in flames ages ago.
Now, it seems, the baby's Nan will have to care for it! Not ideal considering their financial situation.

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2023 09:39

I don't know what they expected to happen really Lilly to leave school and merrily look after her baby.

I used to work for an organisation that supported families we had a few grans bringing up babies because the parents were too young and unprepared it's really sad, it's shouldn't be seen as shameful to be pregnant so young but I don't think it should be celebrated either, what's the answer though?

Tidsleytiddy · 05/07/2023 09:44

It IS shameful. 12? Under the age of consent for a start. I thought Lily saying the baby is Ricky’s was a cover up and that the father is some man but EE seem to be going with the Ricky storyline. Here, you don’t think Theo is the real father???

Tidsleytiddy · 05/07/2023 09:46

Buying the trainers. Doing the tutoring for free. He’s a geography teacher so why’s he helping her with Shakespeare?? Just a thought but he seems very invested…

lazymum99 · 05/07/2023 09:51

As usual there has been no mention of various grants available for parents under 16. I also think Stacey can claim child benefit and UC (child element) on behalf of Stacey and her own income and number of children is ignored.
it’s not a huge amount but should be mentioned

Would you tell a young girl it was shameful though would you tell her she's a disgrace? I'm meaning the general you not actually you.

No I don't think he's the dad I think he's seen Stacey's bits and bobs online and are stalking the family.

Tidsleytiddy · 05/07/2023 09:55

Well I’m sure my reaction would speak volumes. I certainly wouldn’t have let her make the decision she has (rightly or wrongly, but I think rightly). Hmmm be a great twist if he was the father but I think probs more likely he’s on the other end of the webcam

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2023 10:27

Lily needs a good talking to. She a so silly and immature. Yes I know she's a child but this storyline was so silly

They should have dealt with abortion and she was all set to have one till kat stepped in and all went out the window

Agree. It’s a silly storyline.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 11:22

Stacey and her attitude of ' it's all fine ' hasn't helped. How she will care for the baby and work too isn't being discussed. Unless they will rota it all between them all ?
Jean isn't seen at work much and could chip in maybe and lily and Ricky around at school holiday times, but it'll be tough and Hope and Arthur are still little too
( not that we see much of them)

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2023 11:59

I will do a new thread later tonight as know this is getting near the end

That poor baby won't know who it's mother is being passed from pillar to post of different carers.😞

Thanks blonds
Need a new one soon

It's enraged me a bit. In the real world how many people would let their 12yo continue with a pregnancy?

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 14:10

I think Corrie had a similar story line with a character who was pregnant at 12 or 13 many years ago now. I remember reading about it.
I can think of better story lines, although the baby will end up in the kiddie cupboard

I hope they show some of the realities of a new baby. Martin seems money bags atm, so they might be ok financially for a while ?
Eve can carry on with the stall

LadyVictoriaSponge · 05/07/2023 18:41

Did anyone else notice Elaine in the cafe saying to Kathy in a disparaging way ‘a woman of your age’ Kathy looks years younger than Elaine!!

Yes I did. Thought the same. Pot calling kettle black!

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 18:43

Elaine hasnt any tact !
No filter at all ! Lol

VioletCharlotte · 05/07/2023 18:47

I don't think the Lilly story is that unrealistic, 12 years olds do get pregnant and keep their babies, particularly those from deprived backgrounds. I think if she was 13/14 it would be less shocking. A year 8 girl at my DS school got pregnant and kept the baby, and I can remember two pregnant 13 year olds when I was at school.

If it was your daughter, afer the initial shock and upset, would you really try and shame her and tell her she was a disgrace? If it was me, I'd encourage a termination, but respect her right to choose, and if she decided to have the baby I would support her and try and make the best of it. I don't know what else you could do 🤷‍♀️

I don't think Theo's the father, much more likely that he is Stacey's client.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2023 19:13

I wouldn't respect her right to choose at 12

Thets mini blondes in 6yrs time 🙀

Eastie77Returns · 05/07/2023 19:30

No I wouldn’t respect my 12 year olds right to choose. DD is 10 and if she fell pregnant in a couple of years she’d be having a termination, end of. She is a CHILD and children do not get to make grown up decisions that will impact the rest of their lives. I appreciate some might find my attitude shocking but I find Stacey and Martin’s smiling “there, there it will all be done” act even more shocking tbh.

The whole thing is bonkers. I remember an episode months back when Sharon was reminiscing about Mark and she told Martin how proud he would have been at his little brother becoming a grandfather. WTAF. Why is EE normalising this extremely disturbing situation?!

Southeastdweller · 05/07/2023 19:38

Yes I agree @Eastie77Returns it’s not her choice to have the baby. How can a 12 year old make an informed choice about something like this? The storyline has made me feel very uncomfortable from the beginning, yes it happens in reality but in this context, everyone accepting she’s going to have the baby and even celebrating the fact (I think there was some party a few months ago?) sends out the wrong message.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2023 19:41

Lily is too far gone now. I guess we have to hope it'll be ok and the baby will be cared for by it's Nan and other family members.
Unless the baby dies, she'll be around for a long time ( in the cupboard!)
It's not right , but maybe the realities will be touched on.
Dee gave up Raymond for adoption and that didn't last long.

VioletCharlotte · 05/07/2023 19:46

You can't make someone have an abortion though. You can encourage, persuade, cajole, etc. But how would you force her? You can't exactly strap her to the table.

I'm hoping that as the story plays out, Lilly will realise how incredibly hard being a teen mum is, and the reality of what she's signed up to. There's a lot of scope for how you could develop the story. I'm interested to see how it unfolds.
