Anyone watching this? I've watched all of them and am enjoying it. I loved Enid Blyton books as a child, especially the boarding school books. Although the series is different from the books, I still enjoy it. Lovely location.
I guess if they were true to the books, the "nice" characters would have to be snooty bullies. 😀
I like the storyline involving Mademoiselle Rougier and Irene and the secret room storyline. Also the Gwen/Ron storyline.

love this programme! The girls are great actors and I am so glad we have series 1 Miss Grayling back. Love Matron too. It does differ from the books but they couldn’t really depict the bullying etc and Darrell and Irene and Mary Lou are just how I pictured them.

My daughter and I watch them together and I look forward to them every week! Best children’s show on Tv. Hope they do St Clare’s next, and the Naughtiest girl!

SeaPink · 23/05/2023 12:52

Yes, that would be great. My dds are 16 and 18 and not interested..😀
Miss Grayling must have an easy job with only 10 girls in the school and no teaching commitments 😀

No ofsted, safeguarding or health and safety either!

I should say, i read the whole of Malory Towers to dd1 when she was younger and she cried when it ended that there wouldn't be any more books!

The Gwen/Ron storyline is a modernisation too far for me.
I've enjoyed the rest of this series so far.

SeaPink · 23/05/2023 16:07

I like Matron too. Although nothing like the book one, she's a good character.

i think its great. my dc has sn and loves it

AuntieN · 25/05/2023 06:45

I love this too. I was going to say it is my guilty pleasure... but I don't feel guilty about watching it!

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 27/05/2023 07:37

I love it! Look forward to it every summer.

Incidentally I queued in front of Beth Bradfield (Jean) at an airport the other day. I was dying to say hello but I thought I might come across as weird at 38 😁

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 27/05/2023 18:40

Although - I liked the Felicity in series 3. Wonder why she was replaced?

SeaPink · 27/05/2023 18:45

I liked her too. It takes a bit of getting used to when they swap an actor. I googled the old one Minti Gorne (sp?) and I get the impression she's had bigger offers and moved on to be in films etc

I watched the first one when it was broadcast during early lockdown and I was recovering from Covid. I never understood why it was never shown on regular tv - perfect Sunday night viewing for children and adults alike.

ohmustyou · 27/05/2023 23:16

Is there more coming in this series? It's stopped very abruptly?

SeaPink · 27/05/2023 23:42

Looks like there's 10 episodes, with episode 7 on Monday -The Speech

Apparently series 5 will have 20 episodes. I hope that's not 20 episodes about a pantomime! They've said in the show that Darrell wants to be a Dr, not a writer though.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 28/05/2023 08:44

Say what... there's a new series? That's mine and DD's half term sorted. Smile

MT has been such an unexpected stress reliever for me at times. I wonder if I could suggest it at those awful 'well-being' events you have to go to at work?

During the miserable home schooling period there was a point where DS had gone back and poor DD was rattling around mostly being ignored whilst I worked. I forced myself to have a 20 minute break everyday and we watched an episode of MT over a sandwich.

Very happy memory of last Christmas... last day of work before leave and we lost a massive case at work. Considering having a little cry when DD (now too old for MT) texted to say there were two Christmas specials and she was laying out the mince pies.

purser25 · 28/05/2023 08:51

Have only seen a couple of episodes haven’t seen Mary Lou yet is she in this series

SeaPink · 28/05/2023 09:37

Yes she is. Did Sally leave? I can't remember

No, she was in episode 1 looking pissed off that Darrell and Alicia were sharing a room.

Same for me! In the depths of the first lockdown with an 18 month old and DH WFH, I used to watch an episode while he napped.

I think the teachers delegate their responsibilities to Darrel a bit too much this series 😀

I'm still disappointed they don't wear the brown and orange uniform in the book.

I agree with this. I don't know why she had to organise the first form tea party.

TheLemon · 06/06/2023 17:22

Characters keep disappearing! Where is Sally? What about Mary Lou? What in heaven's name happened to Bill? Why does the school have 3 children at the back of each class that nobody ever speaks to?

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 06/06/2023 17:30

Sally popped up in the one I just watched - The Speech. Only as a minor character.
