Thank you Red.
I'd love the Aussies to win because it would take next years contest to a whole new level
What would they do about the time difference? Would it be in Sydney ? Or their capital that nobody rates that much ( even the Aussies ) or Perth ? I bet Rylan , Scott and Graham wouldn't mind a trip there next year.
My friend has tickets for the rehearsal tonight and on her way there today.

DO THE PRODUCERS TAKE SEMI FINAL RESULTS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN DECIDING THE RUNNING ORDER? A thread

I have collected data for all years since producers started deciding the running order and split results are available. I have sorted entries by their Grande Finale running order and looked at how well entries scored in the semi in terms of tele, jury and both

It looks like a clear tendency of producers starting of with a bang, and then cramming the most succesful songs from the first half around 10-13.
In the second half, the most successful songs are spread more evenly towards the end.

It should be noted that the producers may not know the actual results of the semis, but should still have a general impression of how strong each song is

Which running order position has the most success in Eurovision? Is it song 15 or 16?
I vaguely remember someone some time ago doing a study on this.

I'd love Austria or Australia to win.

lemonchiffonpie · 12/05/2023 08:56

Australia is song 15! Austria at song number 1 hasn't a chance.

I would love for Australia to win this year.

RedToothBrush · 12/05/2023 09:02

Caveat to above - this year has a slight change to the voting as the semi finals didn't have a jury vote

Yes they did but I can't find it this year - I could probably look back at last year's threads but I can't be bothered.

From what I can see, Finland marginally got a better draw than Sweden. Italy got the best of the big five. Slovenia will be quietly pleased. Austria, Portugal and Czechia will be gutted. Croatia will be happy I suspect.

I think not having a jury vote has made a real difference this year.

Georgia would have qualified last night with jury vote

Looking forward to Saturday night. I’m sad for Austria and Czechia - they both deserve a better draw.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/05/2023 09:56

I think Georgia would have qualified too with a jury vote. I agree with your analysis, Red. Yes, Austria is at a disadvantage opening the show. Also, isn't spot no. 2 the doomed one. No act has ever won going in second. That's Portugal this year. I'll be voting for Australia but there are others I like too.

lemonchiffonpie · 12/05/2023 09:59

I think Ireland might have qualified with a jury vote, even with the gold jumpsuit moose knuckle. A much better song and performance than some who got through in semi-1, and heaps better than much of semi-2 with all its angsty tweens lying on the floor and/or in pink suits and scout shorts. I found the bulk of semi-2 remarkably weak. Thank God for Australia!

Littlesprouts · 12/05/2023 10:02

Semi-2 with all its angsty tweens lying on the floor and/or in pink suits and scout shorts.

Nailed it Grin. So much pink!
I haven't seen all the acts, but Australia seemed light years away in terms of energy than any of the others so far. I'm rooting for them too!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/05/2023 10:02

Maybe, lemonchiffonpie. They were up against it in that round. Opinion is divided here between people saying it was a mediocre song and others saying we were robbed, though there's more of the latter. That jumpsuit though...😬

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/05/2023 10:03

It's the year of the pink suit.

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2023 10:05

Agree that Georgia would have gone through with a jury vote. I also think Netherlands might have qualified.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/05/2023 10:06

And Latvia.

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2023 10:06

Although out of all the non-qualifiers I’m most sad about Latvia. I like their song, and their performance/staging was good.

NatMoz · 12/05/2023 10:08

I liked Romania but alas not to be.

Semi 1 felt stronger than 2 but i did like Poland's classic Eurovision style.

Anyone else think the UK entrant's outfit didn't fit her very well😲

ShakeYourFeathers · 12/05/2023 10:17

Thank you for the thread. The mumsnet thread is one of my highlights of Eurovision

Off to stock up on drinks for the drinking game

I laughed at Malta and their cardboard cutout party, but loved them by the end. So much fun, I'll miss them!

Definitely. I've put them on my liked songs on Spotify.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/05/2023 10:30

Yes, Malta was a good fun act.

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2023 10:46

Belguim for me
