I think the UK entry is pretty solid, not a last placer. There were lots of absolute shockers in the semis, some of which are now in the final.

I'm watching Eurovision: Everyone's A Winner on BBC1 at the mo, which is a standard issue talking heads and clips show with the twist that it's a rundown of the top 20 non-winning songs (ranked by global Spotify hits so skewed to more recent songs) so instead of Rise Like a Phoenix and bloody Waterloo we're getting Voila and Calm After The Storm. Loads of great songs you've probably forgotten.

Need to watch on catch up.

Currently watching Eurovision the story of fire saga...

... Not feeling it tbh. DH and his mate are playing the drinking game and doing lots of giggling like children.

Oh and there's twelve songbirds and Ukrainian eggs to find around the city.

Thanks for the photos RTB - gives a little flavour of the city for those of us who can't be there.

@CliffsofMohair I've just had a chat with MNHQ about it and it's not available on the app and even on desktop it's just library gifs so Mr. Cha Cha Cha will have to remain frozen.

That’s mad Ted.

im on mobile browser.

Another nerd graphic.

This is the running order and which position the winner was

Position 10 - 2015
Position 11 - 2014 2017
Position 12 - 2019 2022
Position 17 - 2012
Position 18 - 2013

Position 21 - 2016
Position 22 - 2010 2018

I love that graphic @RedToothBrush. I didn’t realise spot 16 had no winners. How interesting!

RedToothBrush · 12/05/2023 23:26

The golden no17 spot is officially Toilet Break Time...

And yet the bookie's favourite, Sweden, is at number 9.

Gossip from jury show

Switzerland vocals less than perfect.
France had a better night - she nailed the vocal apparently which she didn't do at the semi she performed at.
Some discussion going on about Sweden. Some disagreement over how good. Some suggestion that Loreen's vocal at the jury show wasn't perfect. She was expected to do very well (win) the jury vote despite it though
Italy (who have one of the best slot) performed really well
Finland seems likely to win the televote. Not the best for jury show on technicality.
Ukraines staging sounds like one of the best of the lot.
UK had a mare at the rehearsal before the jury show this evening. The jury show was better but still below quality of rest of the contestants.
Jury show speculation suggests France, Italy, Spain, Armenia, Israel and Sweden should fair well in the jury vote. Being suggested that the jury won't like Serbia, Moldova, Germany, Croatia, UK and Poland much.

I wonder where did 'they' find Mae Muller. She's obviously a good recording artist and a nice girl in general but those vocals live - not great at all. Didn't they check?

RaininginDarling · 13/05/2023 00:47

Came for the feminism, staying for the Eurovision. I had no idea Mumsnet/Eurovision was a thing but delighted to find this out. It's the only thing (bar #duvetknowitschristmas) I miss about Twitter.

I dislike the UK entry. It is not the blandest thing on the menu but its up there.

I'm loving Australia and Ukraine, closely followed by Belge George and Lithuania.

Strong adverse reaction to Finland's novelty offering this year. Sorry Fin fans. He looks like an acid-enduced extra from RTE's Love/Hate...

lemonchiffonpie · 13/05/2023 00:58

Found it funny that that Finland geezer is doing Baga Chipz's "Much Betta!" arm movements from Drag Race UK and UK vs the World!

The fan park is ticket only tomorrow yes.

However I've been to Liverpool four times in the last week (I have/had multiple guests staying the past week) and I'd say it possibly is worth a mooch. I have found something different every time I've been in.

There are lots of photo type points throughout the city and there is a busker on pretty much every corner.

John Lewis have had artists / choirs all week. They also have a stand with unofficial type merch in store.

Some of the other shops were having something Eurovisiony involving free prosecco.

We got free strongbow cans and skittles today as they were being given away.

There is another small stage just above the Liverpool one q1 car park in the park opposite John Lewis (above the AstroTurf area) which I think has bands on tomorrow.

Plus seeing all the fans dressed up is great too.

One of the merch stands was sold out of stuff yesterday afternoon, and wasn't open this afternoon for some reason! But the main shop with the snaking queue in the city was open.

The museums are fun for a wander in their own right.

Plus the weather tomorrow looks amazing for Liverpool.

So I would say that it is worth going to Liverpool for the day. BUT...

Parking was a bit of a mare on Monday especially when we left at 4ish. And the traffic getting out the city has been rubbish all week. Tomorrow there is a train strike.

So that would be the only reason I personally would stay away (apart from the fact that I'm now fully done with Liverpool for a while).

Thank you for the info. Decided to go have a wander. Spotted 4 of the songbirds, floating Earth is at Albert Dock too. It was a lovely atmosphere round the area.

Your lambanana photo much better than mine as there were crowds everywhere.
Saw a man in complete Batman costume!

Ended up in the queue for the fan village- took almost two hours to get in.

Tempted to go in again tomorrow! Outside the fan village is nicest atmosphere. Didn’t spot the giant eggs so I’ll go look out for those. I do love liverpool.

Littlesprouts · 13/05/2023 07:52

Two hours, Rummikub? Oh no! A capacity issue, perhaps? Am going down there today, if it's ticketed it might flow more smoothly I hope (crosses everything).

It might be a capacity issue but there's only three entrances to the fan zone I think. And Security is SLOW. I know that last Sunday, the queues were 45mins at about 2pm (just before Andy and the Odd Socks were due onstage for 'family day'). I do think the headliners yesterday have more pulling power than Andy Day!

My advice is, if you have tickets for the screening, to go early for this reason. I think it's going to take a long time to get through security today.

Likewise for the venue tbh.

If there aren't allocated entrances for today's tickets, I suspect the entrance on the far side of the area (dockside) half way way down close to Fab Four Cafe (not the entrance behind Museum of Liverpool) is likely to be the quietest entrance today. It's the entrance which is hardest to get to and a bit out of the way.

RedToothBrush · 13/05/2023 08:11

Also, think carefully about where you park. The arena and the fan zone are going to be kicking out at the same time. And there's no trains.

I wouldn't advise parking down near the docks tonight. If you can park across town and walk down, I very much suspect you can get out of whichever venue you are, walk back to your car and get clear of the city ahead of the traffic trapped down by the kings dock and Liverpool one q park by some margin!

Thanks Red. We went down for Andy last week and assumed the queue was so busy as the acts started soon after the gates opened. But sounds like even if it's a steady stream it's still a faff and a long wait. I'm not really interested in any of the pre show acts today so not bothered about missing anyone, but still a two hour queue in the shade doing nothing is just a waste of a nice day with so much else going on.

I see they will stop letting people in today at 8 when the contest starts so I really hope for their sakes they're on top of that!

I don't think they will have a choice if there is a backlog of queue as it will cause crowd trouble in its own right. They won't want a repeat after the entirely predictable St George's Hall fiasco on Sunday.

I think getting that message out will be more about encouraging people to turn up early for that reason.

I also think they will want to clear the dockside area outside the arena to stop people trying to crash the arena (street furniture and barriers are on the dockside make me go hmm with the alcohol factor)

Tbh I suspect most people will want to be there well in advance anyway. There is a real excitement about tonight.

A shame about Mae being less than perfect live, because it's a good song I think.

Watching that top 20 non-winners show really brought home the fact that the one thing you need, before anything else, is absolutely bulletproof vocals. The singing on all those numbers was impeccable, even the ones who were doing massive dance routines. That's what Sam Ryder had last year, and what lost Blue the jury votes when they fluffed the jury rehearsal.

OublietteBravo · 13/05/2023 10:58

Italy’s selection process always seems to result in an act who can sing live. They always get a great result. I just can’t imagine them coming last.

It didn’t feel like it tbh as there was stuff to see. But yes (Airport style) security is slow.
people were getting drinks for the queue.

Rummikub · 13/05/2023 12:10

It was one in one out. They counted people leaving and allowed that in. Inside there was plenty of room. Fan zone opens at 2 and not allowed to go in and out.

Bimbom · 13/05/2023 12:15

Does anybody know roughly what time all the performances will be finished? DD wants to stay up for the songs and go to bed before the voting but I don't know how late that will be and whether to agree or not!

Rummikub · 13/05/2023 12:21

Agree!
