I am so freaking excited. As usual, I've watched none of the heats because I like to see them for the first time on the night.

I'm doing a eurovision buffet and cheese board. I'm trying to include cheese from as many different countries as possible. I think I'll end up filling up on Halloumi, so Cyprus for the win.

Watching the top 20 non winners show.

She’s not a teen anymore but she’s a Eurovision geek & dd reckons no 1 is Rosa Linn - Snap.

Great call and oldies like me never in a million years would have guessed that. I was as shocked as all the presenters. The toilet roll song?!

wurtle · 13/05/2023 12:39

I am off to Sainsbury’s to get ingredients of Pina colada!

Came for the feminism, staying for the Eurovision. I had no idea Mumsnet/Eurovision was a thing but delighted to find this out. It's the only thing (bar #duvetknowitschristmas) I miss about Twitter.

I dislike the UK entry. It is not the blandest thing on the menu but its up there.

I'm loving Australia and Ukraine, closely followed by Belge George and Lithuania.

Strong adverse reaction to Finland's novelty offering this year. Sorry Fin fans. He looks like an acid-enduced extra from RTE's Love/Hate...

He looks like yer man from the RTE Young Offenders . The small one. It’s the hair.

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2023 12:44

The loo roll song by Rosa Lynn had zillions of streams apparently! It came 20th , but clearly has something the voters missed and didn't vote for it.
I enjoyed last nights programme on bbc one and pleased that Sam Ryder was on the list. I had forgotten about Surie ( or however you spell her name ) being stage bombed too :(
That was sad.
It was nice hearing different songs and not a mention of Abba or Lulu.

Dd said it went crazy viral on tiktok (she’s just 21 so still a big Tik tok user)

Said the same to my DD the other night 😁

Little fun fact about Surie.

one of my son’s uni friends who is about to graduate has just landed his first job performing in a show with Surie

Comefromaway · 13/05/2023 12:56

My kids love the Daoi Fryer song that lost out in 2020 (can’t work out how to type the actual letter)

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2023 12:57

Surie did well to carryon singing whilst that idiot invaded the stage
She seemed nice and I liked the fact it showcased the lesser known songs too. Made a change as most people are fed up with all the old ones being wheeled out every year I'm sure ! We know we like Abba and Buck's Fizz , but give someone else a go too

Italy’s selection process always seems to result in an act who can sing live. They always get a great result. I just can’t imagine them coming last.

Agree with this. I heard that they have a good qualifying competition in Italy.

Sam Ryder was excellent last year. I really enjoyed him; the song and the performance were top notch.

It might be a capacity issue but there's only three entrances to the fan zone I think. And Security is SLOW. I know that last Sunday, the queues were 45mins at about 2pm (just before Andy and the Odd Socks were due onstage for 'family day'). I do think the headliners yesterday have more pulling power than Andy Day!

My advice is, if you have tickets for the screening, to go early for this reason. I think it's going to take a long time to get through security today.

Likewise for the venue tbh.

If there aren't allocated entrances for today's tickets, I suspect the entrance on the far side of the area (dockside) half way way down close to Fab Four Cafe (not the entrance behind Museum of Liverpool) is likely to be the quietest entrance today. It's the entrance which is hardest to get to and a bit out of the way.

Andy has a loyal following who travel far and wide! They played Dublin last year and people had travelled from all over the U.K. just to see them.

I agree, he was wonderful. He's given a much needed image boost for Eurovision in the UK.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 13/05/2023 13:10

And a really nice guy too apparently @Oysterbabe

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2023 13:12

Sam Ryder did a good performance last year and he put the work in too making sure the people in Italy knew the words I think.

ilovesooty · 13/05/2023 13:16

Place marking for tonight!

Stressybetty · 13/05/2023 13:59

Checking in for later 😁

RedToothBrush · 13/05/2023 15:55

Our 'not a big deal' gathering has spiralled out of control.

We now have Ukrainian stuffed buns chilling. DHs mate is making some Finnish things. Another mate is making Dutch pottertjes in a bit. There is hummus and dips. And cheese. French cheese. And potates brava. And stuffed vine leaves. Oh and curry bratwurst.

The frozen sausages rolls in the freezer I bought earlier in the week feel a little sad now and may well stay there.

We’re hosting. We’re also in the middle of moving house (due to house renovations). So we’ll have people perched on an old, saggy sofa, a beanbag, and a selection of dining chairs!

Taytocrisps · 13/05/2023 16:30

Sounds like a fun night RTB. And you've lots of help with the food which is always a win. How many are you expecting?

I have to go collect my DD's bag around 9 (not her, just her and her friend's bags - DD and her friend are getting the bus from work to the nearest big town so I've to collect their backpacks so they can go party unencumbered). It's a 20 minute drive away so I'll miss a 40 minute chunk of the show. Annoying, but I promised her about a week ago and she's just finished her college exams, so she deserves a good night out. Might record the show and then I can play back the bits I missed tomorrow.

Oysterbabe · 13/05/2023 16:37

I was torn on what to get to represent the UK for the buffet. I went for scotch eggs.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 13/05/2023 17:11

Red, that sounds like a feast! We're having a variety of cheese, crackers and crisps.* *

Raahh · 13/05/2023 17:59

Dadi and Mans are both on Pointless. Grin

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2023 18:01

Mans is looking cool!

WeAreTheHeroes · 13/05/2023 18:03

I need to cook tea before kick off tonight. Wish I was at a party. Anyway, I caught up on SF2 tonight so I'm ready.

Earlier on Radio 2 I heard that during Sam Ryder's interval performance there will be a guest drummer. My thoughts were Nandi, who played at the Platinum Jubilee concert, possibly Mr Grohl or even Ringo Starr. Then I realised it's probably going to be Owain.
