Glow Up is back! Who's watching?

Lottapianos · 02/05/2023 20:19

I do enjoy Glow Up. I think Val and Dominic are very fair judges and give everyone constructive feedback, and they really know their stuff

There has been A LOT of shrieking and screaming so far but since starting to do some actual make up, things have calmed down. Not keen on the new host so far, she's very stiff and fake. Maybe it's nerves and she will settle in

I like Saphron too, but then I wanted Lisa to win last series .. 😊

Outdamnspot23 · 05/06/2023 09:34

Oh and yes the presenter - I could find someone better able to do the job just looking round the local shopping centre. There is more to the job than being gorgeous. Maya was fab but to be fair I loathed Stacey “please may you take your seats”.

One thing I do want to say about Wez.

I do love that he has embraced a fancy flamboyant face and hasn’t felt the need to succumb to fancy flamboyant pronouns.

It is a make up show. The pronouns by the names are unnecessary. Just address them in the show how they wish to be addressed. It isn’t anything to do with them popping on a face full of slap.

What is He/they about?

Wez is Happy in his skin. So fair play to him.

Agree - as you say, respect pronouns it's considered necessary, but no need to inflict them on the viewing public.

And yes - Wes has a lot of talent, but there's such a thin line between confidence and arrogance. I suppose though that it's the sort of industry which is so competitive that you have to have an overweening sense of your own importance a bit like a lot of surgeons to be able to shrug off the failures and keep going.

Just like Bake Off, I really wish they'd just stick to finding good talent and letting them shine. I really want to see every day good make up done well, with the occasional bigger/more dramatic challenge. Just like I'd like to see bakers bake the kind of cakes I might bake, but to an exceptional standard. I don't want to see them dig a hole in the garden, heat it for 24 hours then bake a bloody flatbread in it!

Agree with @FoulFeetSmellSomethingHorrible here, too. (Especially the "drool" bit later in the post. 😂)

Emotionalsupportviper · 05/06/2023 09:45

*Wez - stoppit autocarrot

ArcaneWireless · 05/06/2023 10:02

Oh yes fourfeeeties

it is absolutely doing a BakeOff. It ruins a great concept.

And outdamnspot. I couldn’t be arsed with Stace. Loved Maura on the Irish one though. And I didn’t think I would…

ArcaneWireless · 05/06/2023 10:03

And when I was younger spots all over your face was called freckles. Or acne.

Mon now OnMay…

mastertomsmum · 05/06/2023 10:06

Thought the wrong person went home last time, the guy who got through keeps disappointing abc getting through

ArcaneWireless · 05/06/2023 10:14

I do think overall Wez was better than Axel mastertomsmum

His negative space black eye was the less balanced of the two but I can’t help but think that wasn’t the reason he got the bump.

His tude on the team task was palpably of the snark. I’m wondering if it was noticed and wasn’t just down to creative editing.

On-Mays open mouth catching flies theatrical response to anything and everything is really annoying me!!

That first episode when she was walking round saying to the others during a challenge "I need a poo I need a poo", there really was no need for that.

LemonFrosting · 05/06/2023 11:55

FoulFeetSmellSomethingHorrible · 05/06/2023 09:21

The "twins" challenges are getting less interesting - perhaps they are struggling to find a challenge that can be done in five minutes, who knows - they should just repeat some of the previous ones..

It's suffering from the same problem as Bake Off (imo): which is a belief that all challenges always need to be different to something they've done before on previous series. Which means they start to get desperate for something new and they get more and more outlandish as a result.

I don't want to see a chrome lip because I'm never going to try to do a chrome lip. I would like to see them get from 'just got out of bed with drool down my cheek' to 'acceptable to leave for work' in 5 mins, because they over slept Grin

This is hilarious as it's so true!! The part about Bake Off and the flatbread I mean

Outdamnspot23 · 05/06/2023 12:43

I used to like it in earlier series when sometimes the artists would be marked down for unprofessional behaviour around the clients, models or other team members. Now they seem to be able to say anything.

On-May's really getting on my mammary glands (I'm up to episode 5 now).

She's like a cabbage patch doll and acts like somebody not right. She's such an attention grabber - I really wish she'd get knocked out.

Roo is going from bad to worse IMO - a really bossy, patronising mare - I have new respect for Wez and Keiran. I would have strangled her by now. (I'm warming to Wez, actually, which surprised me.)

Leomie's outfits this week were beyond ridiculous and very irritating

Saphron is so brilliant. Head down, no drama, just gets on with it

Emotionalsupportviper · 08/06/2023 08:12

She's my favourite, too, @Lottapianos .

Seems such a lovely don-to-earth girl, too.

Emotionalsupportviper · 08/06/2023 08:19

*down-to-earth

(sorry - I've been up since half past five with a pack of dogs 😄

musicalold · 08/06/2023 20:57

Saphron is the most talented and also seems lovely. Roo clearly has talent but is irritating.
I think Kieran seems like a lovely person, very likeable and down to earth, but as an MUA he's not as good as the others.

Emotionalsupportviper · 09/06/2023 15:03

Agree re: Keiran- he's very likeable.

I was so glad to see On-May get her marching orders this week. She's the most irritating contestant they've ever had - and God knows, there's been some competition!

jay55 · 09/06/2023 15:14

Those paper lashes, was like a desperate last minute world book day solution. She should have just been sent home at that point and not bothered with the face off.

Emotionalsupportviper · 09/06/2023 20:14

Worse, @jay55 - she ignored all the heavy hints to get rid of the lashes, and apparently didn't notice that her model wasn't happy with them at all.

Lottapianos · 09/06/2023 22:15

'I think Kieran seems like a lovely person, very likeable and down to earth, but as an MUA he's not as good as the others'

I love the make up he does on himself, but agree he hasn't done quite as well as the others

Was mortified for On May when her drag artist said he thought she needed some help 🤦🏻‍♂️

OP posts:
LemonFrosting · 10/06/2023 08:02

So glad on-may has gone and that the judges recognised that although her look was good, it wasn't drag.

UsethisUsername · 10/06/2023 08:24

@ArcaneWireless I’m late to this thread but your “Fairuza Balk vibes when she went a bit wrong in The Craft” comment is spot on 😂

Leomie's outfit in the drag episode was ludicrous - she couldn't even walk properly as she has to place her hands in front of her crotch to keep her 'skirt' down.

This is my take on them all too!

And I'll add that the new host is nothing more than a 'sassy' clothes horse and adds little substance to the show.
