Just watching her doing the interviews on The Apprentice. What a total caricature!!

If Baroness Brady was more appropriate for the interview she could have said so without nastiness.

Yes, "Baroness Brady, please - this is a formal interview" or similar. The "My FRIENDS call me Karren" was pure unnecessary nastiness when tacked on the end. Obviously, we know the candidates aren't her friends, but that was so very PA.

It's crass, full stop, to insist on a title being used.

I’ll let you tell my employer that 🤣

Oh, I'd take great pleasure in explaining why I think the House of Lords should be abolished altogether😁

It is. I used to work for a Sir, he thought people were taking the piss when they used it, he hated it.

Chilloutsnow · 18/03/2023 19:10

Karren was fine. The reason why they cried infront of her was because they valued her opinion over the other ones who were also interviewing. In no way was she being a bitch to them.

They don’t sit in the HoL.

She doesn't give a monkeys about being called Baroness, it was just for show.

That's how I saw it. They were allowed to call her Karren the rest of the time throughout the show. This was the formal interview.

She was also close to tears herself when Victoria started to cry.

Karren does.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 18/03/2023 19:15

Karren does.

And Sugar could if he could be arsed to turn up.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 18/03/2023 19:15

Karren does.

Yes she does.

Recommended on merit as opposed to being part of a hereditary system, which fortunately was overhauled in 1999.

The HoL has at least proved a useful check on government over the last few years.

Some members of HoL have provided a useful check. I don't recall Baroness Brady being one of them. I also wonder just how many successful businesses she has started from scratch.

That was in reply to the PP who was in favour of abolishing the HoL.

This. And some of them just use their “honour” to help them game the system. Baroness Mone, anyone?

Yes there are some shit appointments to the HoL - like Johnson wanting to stick his dad on there.

There are also a number of shit MPs who actually get elected by the general public.

Not wanting to derail, but didn't Mike make a quite a big numbers mistake when he said that 50 metres square was a tiny space - no bigger than three standard parking spaces?

Surely he was thinking of 50 metres square? 50 metres square is indeed massive!

50 sq m isn’t that large - it’s 5m by 10m. UK parking spaces are generally around 5m by 2.5m - so more like about 4 parking spaces.

50m squared would be 2500 sq m. Which is huge.

Yep, that's what I thought too!

Oops, how embarrassing when he criticised her calculations! Although she didn't gainsay him by insisting that it was massive, but instead tried to justify it being fine if it was a little space!

Marcipex · 18/03/2023 23:27

I also thought that Baroness Brady was absolutely correct in stressing that her formal title should be used in a formal interview.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/03/2023 00:43

Maybe, but there were several ways that she could have clearly and matter-of-factly said it without deliberately going all mean girl.

Dartmoorcheffy · 19/03/2023 00:54

It's all scripted and clearly it works as its got people discussing it.

I've met and worked for Alan Sugar and he's actually a really nice bloke . Not at all arrogant or patronising in real life and is really amiable and friendly.

I agree.
I would think less of a titled person who behaved like that.

Most I knew (I had a job for a while that involved mixing with a lot) would not have dreamt of even mentioning their title much less behaving how Karen did.

RocketIceLollie · 19/03/2023 08:24

All those business plans were so poor it must be difficult not to be angry but the whole only my friends call me Karen bit was just bullying really doing a power trip.

custardbear · 19/03/2023 08:42

They're all bullies and out to show them all how dreadful their business plans are, but to be honest the contestants are really just kids wanting to step into a 'big role' so would t expect anything g else!

What I thought was very disappointing was how she was trying to show she's 'better' than them personally with the Belgravia comment and the baroness thing.... very disappointing

Wintersgirl · 19/03/2023 08:54

Yes they're all rubbish apart from Marnie, I think it was unnecessary to say those things to Victoria but it showed that even though she was on the winning team every single week and won her task as PM, the interviews exposed her lack of business sense, she really did not have a clue.

Yes, absolutely. You would think that, by being given a title in the first place, it should be a signifier of how highly you are already regarded, and the title is thus just a small token of that.

Having to tell people your title is like like the celeb version of "Don't you know who I am?!" People who were on Big Brother 15 years ago or some local radio presenter use it all the time; the likes of Elton John and Adele never have to (even if they were minded to do so).
