LindorDoubleChoc · 14/03/2023 20:51

This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

Beautiful scenery. Definitely makes me
want to go to Vancouver island.

I've been!
DH and I went to British Columbia in the early 1990s. We had a few days on Vancouver Island based in Victoria. One day we drove out to this fantastic beach looking out on to the Pacific with lots of sun bleached logs that had washed up and we were the only people there. Beautiful. But we had not quite grasped the size of the place and by the time we got back to our hotel we realised we had done the equivalent of driving from Manchester to Cornwall and back in terms of miles covered.
We also went to Stanley Park which is a good day out in itself and, in fairness to the two women team, is very large.
Oh and yes we saw bears too. One day we saw traffic parked at the side of the road and people out of their cars looking at something so we got out to see what was going on. There was a black bear with three cubs at the other side of the road! We did think "Is this safe?" But at the time we were probably younger than almost everyone else there so, old joke, we figured we can't outrun a bear but we can outrun everyone else here to get back to our RV.

I've never seen this before but I am hooked already, it's such a great concept and I don't think I'll ever be able to see any of those places in real life so it's great to see!

Halsall · 23/03/2023 23:42

Delighted this is back, I really enjoyed the previous series (hello to @Ellenanora7 while I’m here! 👋). Also not appreciating the way Taxi dad talked to his daughter, a big contrast to Ladi’s can-do attitude.

My heart breaks a bit for the brother who moved back in with mum in his 30s and was seen playing video games on his own. His anxious expression and expectation that everything will go wrong is sad to see. Hopefully his will be the big redemption arc and he’ll end up believing in himself (sorry for the jargon, I do know it’s 🤮 but you get what I mean).

The Canadian landscape looks amazing and I can see why it’s going to be a challenge for them to get from coast to coast.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 24/03/2023 00:46

Just caught up with the episode, Canada looks amazing.

I did not like taxi dad and daughter. She seems a bit of a brat and he is just useless, you’ve got to put yourself out there not just call a cab.

love ‘clean the bus’ Ladi, not so sure on Monica yet.

thought the two female friends were great and I hope they do well.

the brothers I’m not sure of.

married couple I’m neutral on so far. I deffo would have done the skiing as well though so they get points for that from me.

It's really, really worth watching the previous 2 series, they're amazing! It's all on iPlayer.

Crumpetdisappointment · 24/03/2023 05:33

we started to watch this on iplayer
wondered about their journey - and the war in ukraine realised later we were watched 2019 race across the world!
still enjoyed it though

JustDanceAddict · 24/03/2023 07:22

I love this series! Watched the first two at the beginning of the first lockdown when I prob had covid & enjoyed this new episode!
we also loved Ladi - not so much his daughter, also liked the married couple - they’ll be an interesting watch. Not keen on taxi man & daughter either - weird dynamic, will see re brothers & friends!!
Canada does look amazing though, I’d love to go!!

Cocolapew · 24/03/2023 08:16

The brother who moved back home seems very anxious. He couldn't even enjoy seeing whales because "thats why he's scared of the ocean" he wasn't being asked go swim with them.
Also seems terrified of seeing a bear, which anyone else would probably love.

GandhiDeclaredWarOnYou · 24/03/2023 08:44

Ladi was a delight, Monique less so. “You are washing a bus for nothing” - what an attitude!

Kevin seems a nasty piece of work - not looking for lifts, throwing money at problems, “wipe that smirk off your face”. He seems the type to need the ‘win’ of arriving moment ahead of the others even though it means nothing. He’s heading for a fall.

Mark’s not in a good place, is he? I think there’s a lot we’ve yet to hear about him. The camp younger brother seems more grounded.

Love the women, overcoming their physical limitations and being so positive.

Love Zainneb’s 70s rock chick hair and Mobeen’s optimism.

BeaLola · 24/03/2023 11:12

Yes another Ladi fan here - could see them winning & after shaky can't get out of park start liking the 2 ladies

Do not like let's take a min cab daughter & father - if they improve in further episodes will be a massive turnaround

17 mins difference is nothing on leg 1 - teen sin said - yep you came first by 17 mins but doesn't $650 on transport !

Lemevoir · 24/03/2023 12:23

Love this programme too!

I've just watched it on iplayer, but I've forgotten already - which teams decided to go the inland route rather than via Vancouver Island? The husband & wife did, but there was another team, but I can't remember...?

BeaLola · 24/03/2023 14:02

Wasnt it the two ladies on the bus ?

BestIsWest · 24/03/2023 16:08

It was the two ladies.

Sunshineandshowers42 · 24/03/2023 16:40

Enjoyed the first episode! I watched the first series, but missed the second one, so looking forward to catching up on that too.

Did anyone watch Lost! on channel 4 in the early 2000s? That was a very similar premise, except I think they were put in a team with someone they didn't know and they were also blindfolded on the journey out so the first challenge was actually finding out where they were! They then all had to make their way back to London. Think that sparked off my love of travelling!

Walkingtheplank · 24/03/2023 21:23

I remember that programme. I recall them starting somewhere like Kazakhstan. Interesting that they didnt even know where they were. I think they had very limited money too.

Peccary · 24/03/2023 22:12

Someone I know was on Lost! Really glad RATW is back.

TeamSleep · 25/03/2023 07:30

Lost! Sounds amazing, if anyone knows how I can watch that anywhere please let me know.

KnittingNeedles · 25/03/2023 08:08

Lost appears to have been shown in 2001 on Channel 4, just one series. Can't see it available on All 4.

RocketsMagnificent7 · 25/03/2023 12:32

Just caught up this morning.

Ladi is amazing, such a wonderful heart. He's my favourite so far. I'm hopeful he'll change the brattishness of his daughter, I think that's why he's chosen to do it. He hinted at it with his 'Lesson 1, repay kindness with kindness'.

Mobeen and Zainib have hidden depths. I think he is absolutely in awe of his wife, and she has a hard exterior but is clearly quite soft. I think they'll end up being fun to watch.

The two friends seem great, positive with just the right amount of competitiveness. I agree with someone upthread who said they might be the dark horses.

The brothers, Marc almost seems like he doesn't want to be there. Obviously a huge backstory and I hope he picks up otherwise he'll become difficult to watch.

Kevin and Claudia won't make it past checkpoint 5 if they don't sort themselves out. He was awful talking to his adult daughter the way he did. There wasn't a good vibe from him, bit of sneering and undisguised envy when watching others get lifts while doing nothing to help himself.

The scenery was stunning! I can't wait to see what comes next.

QuietlyConfident · 25/03/2023 13:11

I'm slightly unconvinced by this "Monique is a pampered princess" narrative. It's very much "lovely Ladi"'s version of events. She's very well groomed, which may suffer along the way, and there's a suggestion that he's taking more than half the luggage, but she's not been whinging about walking or sleeping on ferries or getting lifts with strangers has she?

I'm reserving judgement until we see her throwing a tantrum.

Maireas · 25/03/2023 14:11

Monique seems fine to me.
I suspect that the brother who lives at home with mum may have had some sort of mental health problems.
Zainib is a psychiatrist and Mobeen a surgical registrar so may be practical as well as good at the logistics (although who knows!). I like them and think they're a good partnership.
I really respect whichever one of the women friends who has a visual impairment. That's got to be tough.
Like pp, I have not taken to Kevin. At all.

I agree. Can't see she would have agreed to go on the show if she was that much of a princess.

awaynboilyurheid · 25/03/2023 17:12

Love this series I guess it was filmed during covid times so thats why they chose Canada, the previous seasons more countries were open for choice but Canada is beautiful, I loved seeing Campbell river as I used to have family there and I've never seen it!
We could'nt stand Jen from series 2 what a moan she was, we were cheering when the nephew and uncle won and they donated half their winnings to charity too so that was so lovely!
So far we like the best friends incredibly brave thing to do when your vision is impaired , and could relate when they could'nt find their way out a park as this happened to myself and my daughter in London one time on a blisteringly hot day! I have the worst sense of direction and can get lost v easily.
Not at all sure about the taxi twins, hollow victory to be first to sign the book when they just threw money at it, think its a difficult relationship there, but so glad its back on TV!

Completely agree with you about Marc (I think he’s the older brother?). It’s brave of him to recognise he needs to do something different to get out of the situation he’s in. I wonder what the background is with his brother - they’ve said they’re not close, but not why. Close in age too. I really hope they both get what they need from the experience.

His younger brother was quite camp, I thought.

Mark is 36, living in his mum’s house, has a job as a lift operative and spends his time off gaming. The is not indicative of a healthy life balance for man of his age. I suspect a lot of backstory.
