Race Across The World - Series 3

This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

Can I join? I was a bit sceptical when I seen it was ‘just’ across Canada rather than more countries but it does seem difficult with the lack of public transport.

Father who helped clean the bus seems resourceful and friendly enough to get by with some help from locals but his daughter is a bit sour so far.

Other father and daughter need to think smarter instead of making decisions like $500 on a taxi without looking into other options first!

I’m not sure this is going to be as good as other series - seems to be all about the hitchhiking and not as much variety.

I also really don’t like the father of the pair that got the taxi.

Yes DH has already labelled taxi dad a prat for the way he was with his daughter.

If they struggled in this leg I think they’ll really struggle in the next leg as it seems completely off grid. Their budget is definitely going to be a problem too at some point, almost 1/4 gone!

He's getting a harsh edit so far - I suspect their journey will end badly, but you never know, they might be doing a redemption narrative.

Do you remember the father and son from series one?. They were also rebuilding their relationship after he'd buggered off in his son's youth I think, but he was infinitely more likeable.

Brothers will not win but will grow closer emotionally so won’t care.

I’m team female friends so far though I do like Pay It Forward Dad too. I’m very envious actually. Canada is so beautiful.

My money's on the two women doing well. They're resourceful and resilient (although I did think they were doomed when they couldn't find their way out of the park at the very beginning!).

I like Ladi, he seems to be kind and generous.

Exactly my thoughts Grin Love Ladi so far, he seems a great father. Interested to see more of the two women and of Mark and Michael, they seem like chalk and cheese so far. Love this show, it's one of the few things we make the effort to watch live!

Taxi couple are over reliant on taxis, I admire the other teams for their resilience and initiative. It's really clear talking to people and being friendly are the keys to success. The taxis may have come first but they're going to have to learn to do it another way.

I don't like the dad.

The key to success is definitely talking to people. The teams aren't allowed smartphones or internet, but there's nothing to stop them talking to other people and asking them to Google things or post ads for help. That worked well for the brothers.

Don't like taxi dad/daughter at all, they are not going to be able to recoup such a big spend. It looks like next week the end point is Dawson City looking at the trailer, that is very very far north and it's a fairly even start as they're all going to have to get the same ferry back off the island to the mainland to continue.3
