This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

I'd love to think the producers of Series 3 had access to this thread and its unvarnished comments. 🌹

NCTDN · 21/04/2023 21:31

I'm still annoyed that the ladies lost their lead- theyThey should've made all the other teams wait the extra 4 hours or whatever to keep that lead. On a side note, I'm shocked at their age as a really thought they were the other side of 50.
I think taxi dad will run out of moneyConfused

purser25 · 22/04/2023 08:46

Love the two friends but I thought they were nearer retirement age.

Neither of them even look like they are near retirement age. What made you think that?

LittleFreakJezebel · 22/04/2023 09:17

They both look their age to me

LittleFreakJezebel · 22/04/2023 09:18

Pressed send to soon! I'm surprised people are thinking they look much older.

BishopRock · 22/04/2023 10:05

I also thought the two women were a lot older than late 40s. They seem more late 50s to me and I speak as someone who's a few years older than them.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/04/2023 10:56

They literally look mid 40s. The red head also has quite a young looking face

I’m mid 40s and thought they were about 10 years older than me!

SwedishEdith · 22/04/2023 11:08

I don't think they look older at all but they give off that slightly old fashioned sense of being slightly out of touch with the modern world. Probably unfair as I've not seen them out of their RATW outfits.

AnnaMagnani · 22/04/2023 11:41

They look late 40s.

This is exactly what late 40s women look like wearing hiking gear and no makeup. And a bit sleep deprived.

Plus their intermittent references to being perimenopausal narrows the age range down a lot.

Really? Just based on what they look like?

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/04/2023 11:58

I'm 60 and am really surprised that they are both more than 10 years younger than me. And I can't get over their lead being taken away from them.

No, from their manner. Hence saying they don't look older.

Paloma66 · 22/04/2023 13:42

I'm in my late 50s and I thought the women were my age.

NCTDN · 22/04/2023 14:08

Gosh I've sparked a debate now haven't I?!!
I do think their manner is that of mid 50s which is slightly older than me.

TheMadGardener · 22/04/2023 14:46

I am now at the stage where I'd like Anyone But Kevin to win. Surely he must run out of cash before the end?

I think they made a bit of a mistake making the transport options so limited. I'd like to see lots of different ways of travelling rather than everyone on the same train, everyone on the same bus, etc. I guess that now they are approaching much more populated areas there will be more transport options. But the route chosen is very odd. What was the point of all that massive train trip up to Churchill just to have another massive train trip back again?

So far the bakery is my favourite of the jobs taken. Yum!

LittleFreakJezebel · 22/04/2023 15:14

I'm sure in the intro clip Claudia says something like 'we are absolutely brassic' so they must start to struggle! I couldn't stand how smug he was being when he was going on about how well they were doing and that they have a great game plan.

QuietlyConfident · 22/04/2023 15:44

I'm in my early fifties and I flatter myself that I look younger than the friends, but I definitely wouldn't when dressed in practical travel wear with no makeup, no haircut, conditioner or roots retouch for god knows how long, and sleeping (or attempting to do so) in the back of buses. I think that the "older personality" is forced on them by a format which inevitable makes them continually comment on how confused and knackered they are.

Bloody Monique is still looking perfect in every frame. Even at her age that's a hell of an achievement under the circumstances. It's a good job she's so likeable otherwise I must confess that it would put me off her.

Countmeout · 22/04/2023 17:17

I’ve just watched this weeks episodes. I’m wondering if all the soul searching is to add interest (fail) and pad out the lack of variety in traversing Canada. I watched in in chunks as I found it difficult to sustain my interest in it this week.

Me too on both counts.

BeaLola · 22/04/2023 17:43

In our house he's called Smug Kevin and I'd like anyone to win apart from him - I'm still not over the 4 hour loss of the ladies due to curfew hours - they should still have started 4 hour's before everyone else

Skeusenner · 22/04/2023 21:45

Just caught this week's episode. This week's Canadian 'delicacy', Beavertails! Not what you might think.

As with others, it's hard not to be a passenger on the Moany Train. Nice scenery, lift sharing and relationship stuff, or was that last week........

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/04/2023 00:02

I too have gone Anyone But Kevin but he will surely be eliminated for running out of money - fingers crossed

LatteOneShotplease · 23/04/2023 00:34

For anyone wanting to see a race that's a bit tougher, I have found a show "Race to Survive Alaska". They aren't even allowed to pack tents, are on constant lookout for bears and just had to paddle 11 miles along a tidal river. Medics on permanent standby, and one couple exited already due to heat exhaustion.

It does make the race across Canada look "easy" by comparison. But I still love this show.
(Oh, and the prize money is half a million dollars....)
