Race Across The World - Series 3

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/03/2023 20:51

This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

Hopefully with just 20% of their budget left now Taxi Man and his daughter will be dropping out soon.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/04/2023 22:47

No idea what I just watched. Some kind of soft healing/personal development/so-called life affirming content?

It does not resemble a race in any way, shape or form.

Wow her husband having his kidney transplant fail is serious.

purpleme12 · 19/04/2023 22:51

'it's Monique's world we just live in it' 🤣

Well, it showed them at Niagara Falls so they get at least that far.

afterdropshock · 19/04/2023 22:58

Monique is so lovely. The friends are great. Zainib didn't come across so well this time. I agree that the race element is pants but I am interested in the couples.

geojellyfish · 19/04/2023 23:04

The editing... anyone else wince when Claudia was talking to camera about catching the fish and hoping her dad would be proud of her, only for it to cut to him saying he was envious of her?

As a pp said, the production decision to cast them alongside Monique and Ladi is interesting, though potentially also slightly cruel when their relationships are so different.

stickybear · 19/04/2023 23:08

I loved Claudia tonight, especially when she managed to get them a lift. 'My dad can stick his taxi up his arse' GrinGrin I really feel for her, she so much wants that relationship with her father. Ladi and Monique are amazing and I would totally buy Ladi's Guide to Parenting. She has such a good head on her shoulders.

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 19/04/2023 23:09

I don't want KEVIN AND CLAUDIA to win but bet they do

I really do not like his attitude

Yes 🤣
I do love him

purpleme12 · 19/04/2023 23:16

Did anyone notice the person Claudia and Kevin got a lift with, had to call her husband to check it was ok first when her husband wasn't even with her?!

purpleme12 · 19/04/2023 23:16

Or it might have been the one giving a lift to Trisha and Cathie

purplecheesecat · 19/04/2023 23:48

Enjoying this series so far, even if it’s a little less exciting than the previous two I think that can be explained by the restrictions of finding an open location and filming during the pandemic.
Agree with the pp who said that pairs with clear problems/traumas between them shouldn’t be selected, as it’s just a bit painful to watch Kevin and Claudia try to use this race to bond when really they’d be better off getting a therapist.
Cathie and Tricia for the win! (Would also be very happy with Monique and Ladi)

I noticed! Hopefully it was ‘I need to check with my husband because I’ll be an hour late and he will need to be home to let the dog out’ not ‘let me ask permission from my controlling husband’

purpleme12 · 19/04/2023 23:49

I assumed she was going there anyway so I assumed it wouldn't make a difference to her time wise

CrapBucket · 19/04/2023 23:49

Weird to see them elbow bumping each other. I had forgotten that part of the pandemic.

Yep noticed but I would have to do the same we only have one car so I would need to check he didn't need it, likewise if it was the other way round

"purpleme12* I didn't get that impression at all, I think she was just doing them a favour hence why she asked for fuel money covering there and back. It was the people Claudia and Dad got a lift off that were going that way

purpleme12 · 20/04/2023 08:47

Fair enough if that's the case.
I thought she was going anyway. I might have been wrong can't remember in enough detail now

I can also see them winning, he is pretty ruthless about the race element whereas some of the other teams are prioritising the experience. The way this season is designed does play into his hands because there are so many bottlenecks, no team is ever more than one taxi or bus ride from the lead. I’m hoping they run out of money otherwise he’s just going to get a taxi to the last checkpoint.

How many more episodes are there?

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 20/04/2023 09:12

I think there are 9 episodes

I agree but hope he runs out of money so can't pay a taxi but they can run fast

I would dump my bags at the end and run without carrying everything up to the finish line unless that isn't allowed

It is very edited but if you don't say things they won't be put into your mouth or alter what your face does during a conversation when 2 people are both in shot

Did you see him in the small coach turn around and take a photo of Cathie?

CrapBucket · 20/04/2023 09:41

The fake jobs seem a bit unfair to me- I know they have to be set up but the pay varies a lot. Kevin and Claudia got 100 dollars for cleaning wolf statues and Trish and Cathie got about 25 for litter picking.

Hellocatshome · 20/04/2023 09:42

I know it is edited but it was very telling when Claudia caught the fish and was shouting for her Dad to come down and join them and he just carried on painting and said he was envious of her. I think Kevin is very childlike and if he isnt centre of attention he doesnt like it.

floralpm · 20/04/2023 11:19

Also getting quite bored with all the emphasis on relationships - exploring it a bit throughout the programme is one thing but the same thing is repeated every week: Kevin and Claudia explaining they aren't close then cut to Monique and Ladi discussing how well they get on and how great they think each other are. The actual race element ends of feeling rushed, I missed how they eneded up so far ahead last night

martha4clark · 20/04/2023 12:41

@LindorDoubleChoc what is up with the headline? I can't tell!
