This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

So Kevin and Claudia got driven that whole leg, for free? They were very lucky.

martha4clark · 05/04/2023 23:14

Yes I feel quite a lot of the detail is not shown. It was a shame that the daughter didn't get to visit Lake Louise. And feel the brothers could have done with longer in the race - their relationship seemed as if it needed more time to heal and strengthen. Love the supportive relationship between the two friends.

Stressybetty · 05/04/2023 23:36

Taxi dad daughter getting on my nerves. Seems to have got such a grudge against her dad. Hurt foot girl too whiny.

Tapenade · 05/04/2023 23:55

I’d like Zainab and Mobeen to win it. I also like Ladi and don’t mind his daughter, but I’m not sure I can see them continuing if she’s properly hurt.

The friends annoy me and I don’t like Kevin and his daughter at all.

I wish we saw more of Canada and less of the people tbh.

Newestname002 · 06/04/2023 00:12

I'm also Team Zainab and Mobeen. It's lovely to see more of their personalities as the series develops. 🌹

purpleme12 · 06/04/2023 00:51

I really like Zainib and Mobeen too. I really admire how confident she is in herself.

I like how the friends get. It's like they know what each other needs.

I also really like Monique and Ladi. I think they've got a lovely relationship. I'll be happy if I've got that with my daughter.

I don't mind Kevin and Claudia but kind of agree they seem to be going on about the whole pub issue now.

I felt quite bad for the brothers ☹️ felt like we were really starting to see Mark come out of his shell and then they're gone ☹️

TyneTeas · 06/04/2023 00:58

Would be interesting to see how that family would have faired on MN

AIBU or are my English campers CFs

I agreed that they could camp in my garden. With some reluctance when they couldn't find other modes, I agreed that they could borrow my car to drive hundreds of miles to my uncle who lives close enough to their destination to make other arrangements (and my uncle would drive it back). However when they arrived, they turn asked my uncle to drive them the rest of the way. AIBU

Stressybetty · 06/04/2023 02:46

Quite a relief seeing the lads go really, the older was too moody and having to be motivated by his brother constantly. They had no sense of urgency about them.

mrsfeatherbottom · 06/04/2023 07:44

Something that's bugging me is that in the recap last night, they showed the clip of the guy with the trailer and dogs who Zainab asked "are you going to kill is?", BUT he had a plain white t-shirt on. I distinctly remember in the original episode he was wearing a t-shirt with Garth from Wayne's World on it. Why would they take that out??

In other news, glad the brothers were first out although they were sweet. Agree with PPs that pub dad and daughter were CFs and I felt bad for Uncle Norm!

KrasiTime · 06/04/2023 07:46

Thanks for posting that article @TyneTeas really interesting.

Halsall · 06/04/2023 08:08

Poor Uncle Norm was well and truly put on the spot. Say no, and risk Canada’s reputation as being full of lovely helpful people. Say yes, and find yourself driving hundreds of miles with weirdly-twitchy pub man and daughter. And then having to drive hundreds of miles back home.

I hope they paid him petrol money.

purpleme12 · 06/04/2023 08:10

He could have said he was busy doing something, made up some excuse like that, or had an appointment in a bit

LindorDoubleChoc · 06/04/2023 08:42

Hmm. I'm really not at all gripped by this. It doesn't feel like a real race for starters. And I'm totally frustrated by the missing links - last week's episode was worse for this - but the programme makers seem incapable of showing the progress of each team compared to each other in a comprehensible way.

I really don't need to see another shot of any of them at a gas station anywhere asking a trucker for a lift!

The jobs are just silly too, all set up nicely for them.

I don't like it when they bump into other teams en route either (moan, whinge). Just goes to show how few options there are to get anywhere and that somehow makes it less of a challenge.

The jobs have always been set up for them

CrapBucket · 06/04/2023 08:52

I felt gutted for the brothers getting that message whilst in their tent, I think it’s been a massively positive experience for them both though.

If I was zainab or mobeen bumping into ladi at the RV place I would have offered him and Monique to jump in, seeing as she is injured and can’t drive, the three of them could have taken turns.

LindorDoubleChoc · 06/04/2023 09:09

Yes, I didn't see why a team had to be eliminated. What does it add to the programme?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 06/04/2023 09:11

Did they have these eliminations in the other series ?
Maybe it's done to keep up the urgency of trying to be first or second , Keep them on their toes a bit ?

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 06/04/2023 09:19

They had an elimination in season one, season two, one of the teams dropped out because they had all their money stolen

mrsfeatherbottom · 06/04/2023 09:21

They did them in the previous series. I presume it's to add suspense but also so they don't just coast along enjoying the sights and taking their time!

the80sweregreat · 06/04/2023 09:43

Oh that's horrible to have money stolen :(
What a shame
I still need to watch the other series on I player

Mumsafan · 06/04/2023 10:46

I knew it would be the boys who went, they just had no sense of urgency or any idea of how to make a plan.

Beginning to warm to Taxi man - just think the daughter is a pain now 😂

The constant hanging around gas stations drives me nuts - I think Canada has been a necessary (Covid) experiment that hopefully they won't do again. At least we saw a coach, a bus and a cable car last night! It all seems a bit rushed compared to the previous seasons where we would see them deliberating on routes, changing currency, struggling with the languages, going through the jobs booklet and trying to match things up to the route.

The highlight of last night for us was when they went to Jasper - our DD went skiing there with school in Feb and she was able to show us the shops she had been in, Lake Louise where they had stopped at some point, plus others things she'd done there.

I will watch the whole series but it seems so much has been cut out and no explanations are made of how/when etc.

the80sweregreat · 06/04/2023 10:54

The editing is very hard to follow at times
Such as the two ladies getting stuck , then suddenly they are in Banff ! Are we to assume they did get the coach ok and it was running a bit late as the lady said it might be?

Mumsafan · 06/04/2023 10:58

Yes - and also when John Hannah said "Monique and Ladi are nowhere to be seen" and then we see Ladi striding across the RV yard when the married couple are there.

purpleme12 · 06/04/2023 10:58

Yes, at least that got an explanation later though
