BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2023 11:46

may contain spoilers from seasons 1 & 2

Anyone watch Ted Lasso? I absoloutley love it, and am rewatching it ahead of season 3 coming out later this month.

But aside from me and DH, no one I know watches it!!

I'm hoping we see Nate come back into the fold (Diamond Dogs woof!), and make ammends.

Beautiful Dutch Man meant “Did we? Yes we did fall ridiculously in love …”

tribpot · 20/04/2023 10:00

I agree, @MarciaSaysANumber , this is Ted Lasso. "Did we? Yes - have sex with questionable consent applied" was not likely to be the subtext.

I see that Rebecca took the obvious romcom precaution of not asking his name, god forbid they swap phone numbers so she could easily contact him and not have to go roaming around the canals later in the series trying to find his boat.

MarciaSaysANumber · 20/04/2023 10:08

Btw, @tribpot - I’ve been meaning to thank you for my new name, prompted by a comment of yours on another thread.

tribpot · 20/04/2023 10:10

Oh wow, I don't think I have ever inspired a username before. I feel like we should spit on our palms and shake hands, @MarciaSaysANumber 😂

Cheesymonster · 21/04/2023 09:08

I thought the diner scene when Ted enters and the camera follows him around was a nod to the diner scene in Pulp Fiction. Same background music and everything. I never notice shit like this!

Madamecastafiore · 21/04/2023 09:32

It's fab isn't it. I am in love with Ted which DH thinks is seriously weird.

Does Roy speak like that in real life or does he have to swallow a bag of nails before every take?

vestanesta · 21/04/2023 14:58

@Madamecastafiore sadly not. He does a good podcast on films though and has had Jamie as a guest

Was just about to say this. On the podcast you can tell its him of course but his voice is a lot softer. His comedy skills aren't as on point on the podcast as they are in his writing.

Shrinking (TV show, he wrote it) is truly excellent. And very well cast, in the main.

I’m getting a bit cross. I hate it when a TV show decides to make a female character be bisexual to make them be more interesting. It’s done too often and is lazy.

I want to see Rebecca actually doing her job. She wafts about not doing very much - she should be in negotiations with another manager / discussing whether to sack Ted / telling Ted he has to sell some players. Doing actual football stuff.

They never mention how much it actually costs to run a football club.

tribpot · 21/04/2023 16:07

Totally agree @CruCru - I mentioned above how it's never a male character who decides to explore his sexuality, it's always a female character. It's such a poor cliche and points to the major drop-off in quality this season.

It's actually jazz maestro Higgins who's the Director of Football, so I feel like he's the one who would be involved day-to-day. Don't owners just waft about? (I have no idea what Ryan Reynolds and Rob McIlheney do day-to-day except supply cash). But Higgins and Rebecca really should have had a conversation about replacing Ted by now.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 21/04/2023 18:03

Admittedly I will defend the joy of Ted Lasso until my dying day 😃 but I really loved this episode, there was something about it that just made me smile the whole episode!

My biggest gripe though was that it is highly unlikely that Rebecca’s jacket was able to be tumble dried!

I would actually hate for Rebecca to get pregnant, it’s such an easy out on tv “woman can’t get pregnant, has sex, miracle baby” and personally (and this maybe because of personal experience) I would love her character to find family in a different way that looks “different”

AlisonDonut · 21/04/2023 18:16

I love Ted also, so much so that the one of the cats that has adopted us, who comes indoors for food, cuddles and to snooze, who wakes me up each morning at 5am to put the light on so that I can watch him eat, and then snuggles on my bed, who is often found in various hideyholes in the house - is now named Roy Kent as he is here, he is there, he is every bloody where.

I enjoyed the team NOT going to do the obvious in Amsterdam, as that would have been a very cheap shot. I was shouting 'get out of the fucking bike lane' a few times though. Which we've all done when in Amsterdam right?

MarciaSaysANumber · 21/04/2023 18:33

Rebecca’s impromptu laundry had me worrying in the middle of the night! Can’t be bothered to rewatch to check fabrics - though the long sleeved t shirt and visible vest were washable. Was she wearing jeans? Cord coat? All the things were much more casual than her usual day wear, at least.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/04/2023 19:26

My biggest gripe though was that it is highly unlikely that Rebecca’s jacket was able to be tumble dried!

It had a tear on the front of it when she put it on the following day, so maybe they did actually tumble it on the show Grin

Haha! This was my only issue with this episode!… Kept thinking surely it’s dryclean only!

Damn it… wrong quote! Please see above 🤣

slamfightbrightlight · 21/04/2023 23:28

I can’t believe Jamie Tartt has become my favourite character.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/04/2023 23:30

I know right! Who would have thought.

Loved this week’s episode, some proper laughs and a teary eye. Whole Keeley story line can get in the bin though, bloody hell.

vestanesta · 26/04/2023 23:08

Yes, also enjoyed this except Keeley obvs. And Keeley and Rebecca - I liked Rebecca giving her the heads up re the love bombing but in general a waste of a scene. I suspect part of the reason Barbara doesn't approve is that she's seen Jack in action before.

Loved all the total football stuff especially Will as Beard. I also liked the Nate/Jade storyline - I was shouting at him not to spit in the mirror.

I was a bit torn on Sam - he's just a bit too earnest and perfect. But his dad was great.

And Jamie is now my favourite alongside Roy. I loved the return of the signal.

slamfightbrightlight · 26/04/2023 23:20

I thought they were going to end up with the whole team doing some kind of protest so I’m kind of glad they didn’t go down that route and they kept it more personal. Also first time seeing Sam lose his temper! That whole storyline could have been super clumsy but it was handled okay in the end I thought.

Ted walking into the red rope and taking two players down had us howling.

jontymcjont · 26/04/2023 23:33

Oh what a wonderful episode! This is what Ted Lasso is all about.

ExhaustedPigwidgeon · 26/04/2023 23:37

I suspect part of the reason Barbara doesn't approve is that she's seen Jack in action before.

thats interesting - especially jack says if you have any questions ask me keely or Barbara which I thought was totally inappropriate - I wonder if she had a thing with Barbara which turned nasty. Barbara does get sent all over the place after all.

I wanted to see keely learn how to be a proper businesswoman, and grow as a person. Instead she’s still lurching from one fuckup to another, dressing like Phoebe - I don’t know a single 30 year old who would dress like that. Especially the stupid bands in her hair at a super posh wine bar with Rebecca. Time to grow up.

Also I feel like Nate is too good for snooty horrible jade. He’s made some mistakes and done some shitty things, sure. Doesn’t mean he has to end up with an ice queen who stares him down every time he tries to talk to her.

Roy, Jamie and Trent are carrying real hard this season. Apart from a few hilarious moments in todays episode I thought it was a dud.

and for the love of god lamb poo doesn’t smell that bad! Right up there with the constant Americanisms for the annoyance factor. Parking lot, blocks, co workers…stop it….British people wouldn’t immediately use those words.

I saw him so stand up at a comedy night in a teeny tiny local venue about 5-6 yrs ago. I think he's quite posh iirc?
I heard the actor that plays Jamie on the "Dish" podcast recently (Hannah Whaddingham was also on it) and he also sounds pretty posh! Mind you, in tonight's episode when he was telling them they were doing it wrong I noticed his accent slip a little. So did Sam's when he was angry, more London than Nigerian.
Not a criticism though as I still love them all.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/04/2023 23:43

It was a good week again this week.

They really don't know how to keep Nathan relevant do they?
