Ted Lasso season 3

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2023 11:46

may contain spoilers from seasons 1 & 2

Anyone watch Ted Lasso? I absoloutley love it, and am rewatching it ahead of season 3 coming out later this month.

But aside from me and DH, no one I know watches it!!

I'm hoping we see Nate come back into the fold (Diamond Dogs woof!), and make ammends.

Presumably they need Nathan to complete his redemption arc by the end of the series so have to keep him popping up

EconomyClassRockstar · 27/04/2023 00:45

I genuinely think, apart from the odd side story, that the entire Ted Lasso thing has run out of steam. It had such a good run up and then boom. Just like the Giants this season.

slamfightbrightlight · 27/04/2023 00:53

Well it is the last series so presumably they feel the same way!

Tezza1 · 27/04/2023 06:18

Was 'Scrubs' on British TV? It had the same show runner, Bill Lawrence, that Ted Lasso has. The proper final episode of Scrubs was perfect. Literally made me cry and smile soppily at the same time. Was absolutely lovely. The montage (possible future) while playing Peter Gabriel singing "The Book of Love" was completely satisfying. Maybe it was the right thing at the right time for me.
SO, BILL LAWRENCE, I'M WARNING YOU: TED LASSO HAD BETTER HAVE AN ENDING NEARLY AS GOOD AS SCRUBS, OR THERE WILL BE TROUBLE and yes, I'm shouting, loudly.

It went for nine series but the last series was some sort of contractual obligation thing and had a new cast with original cast members flitting briefly in and out, so it doesn't count. At least that's my story.

escapingthecity · 27/04/2023 06:53

Far and away the best bits this week were with the team trying the new approach. Every time we moved away from them (Keeley, Nate), it lost momentum. I continue to love Trent and I like Jamie's arc, but I am only really watching to see how it all gets wrapped up now.

tribpot · 27/04/2023 07:39

Yep the Keeley stuff was more painful than ever this week. Is she ever going to do any work, or just spend her time being a fluffy girlfriend?

Some painfully unfunny moments that were clearly written as lazy attempts at humour (Mae shouting fuck off being one). But the football stuff was great.

Southeastdweller · 27/04/2023 07:53

I was mostly bored with this week's episode apart from the scenes with Keeley and Rebecca. The Nate stuff is painful, especially because Nick Mohammed is the weakest actor in the cast.

The sparkle has gone but you never know, they may pull it out of the bag for the final episode in a few weeks' time...

tribpot · 27/04/2023 08:02

I'm getting a bit worried that Nate's being rehabilitated so he can come in as manager when Ted leaves. I feel also that we're being set up for a downbeat ending with Richmond being relegated, because Trent clearly thinks he's found the narrative arc of his book - all three seasons were leading up to this, the Lasso way triumphs, etc.

ExhaustedPigwidgeon · 27/04/2023 08:03

To be fair to Nick he’s had nothing to work with this season - last season watching him be pushed out by Ted and finally confronting him was amazing acting. Now he’s got “pursue the woman who appears to hate you”.

I feel like they’ve given every writer a crack at putting whatever they want in the show this season and it’s really really not paying off. I want more football and more joy - less Keely, less Sam, and more from characters like Trent, Colin, Jan Maas and Danny. More Roy and Jamie - i would watch a spin off with just those two hanging out.

And if Brett could have written the final episode that would be fantastic - his episodes are by far the best

slamfightbrightlight · 27/04/2023 08:10

@Tezza1 SO agree about that episode of Scrubs, that montage is beautiful.

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 09:23

The biggest problem the show has is that each episode is progressively getting longer, without any quality control.

Literally, if you cut out the ENTIRE keeley storyline, absolutely nothing else would be affected. It adds zero to anything. Its absolutely awful. Same with Nate and the girl from the restaurant. I really don't care.

Last night felt like an absolute filler episode yet again. There's no overriding arc or narrative going on. The whole scene a few weeks ago about Henry being a bully? What was that about and where's that going? Is Ted going to deal with that?

When the focus is on the team, it works. Ted tripping over the red string was hilarious, but as a story in itself, it was a bit weird.

The issue I have with this show is when they get it right, they absolutely GET IT RIGHT. When its on form, its close to TV perfection (e.g. the scene between Trent and Colin last week was beautiful writing). But when they go off course, its like they don't know what they are trying to do.

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 09:24

@Tezza1 I agree, the finale when Zach Braff leaves scrubs was perfect. Absolute perfect.

To be honest, I think the final episode of Shrinking (also with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein) was perfect as well. They clearly only anticipated one season, hence the random scene at the end on the cliff (if you've seen it you'll know what I mean!)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/04/2023 09:56

Agree Shrinking ended perfectly.

We laughed out loud a LOT last nights episode.

Agree the Keeley storyline can go. Not enough Rebecca being Boss Ass Bitch, they turned Nate into a panto of himself.

But the interaction between the teammates is truly wonderful. I just love it. And the Beard/Will swap was so unexpected and hilarious.

There was a thing on twitter I saw that when Ibrahimovic left a couple of his clubs they won whatever league they were in - zava foreshadowing given that zava appeared to be based on him?

I forgot the main details

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 10:26

The main issue with the Nate storyline is it's just pointless. There's no interaction with any other character whatsoever - to be honest, whenever he comes on screen, I've almost forgotten about him entirely.

Clearly it will come down to a final day match between Richmond and West Ham

My husband kept laughing though because he was like, "where's the season gone?" it's like they suddenly headed off to Amsterdam to play a friendly in the middle of a season for no apparent reason, then started training like it was a pre-season session.

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 10:28

We need Roy and his yoga mums and Pheobe

And yes to more of Roy/Jamie - although the whole extra training for Jamie thing doesn't seem to be actually making any difference, even if I did love Jamie pulling him on the bike!

thebellagio · 27/04/2023 10:28

And more Trent.

I want a Trent Crimm spin off. I love him so much.

tribpot · 27/04/2023 11:02

Jamie was the only one not destroyed by the training session they did this week @thebellagio (where lots of people ended up puking at the end).

Totally agree about the absence of the yoga mums, it was little touches like that that set Ted Lasso apart in season 1.

DoesItHaveKosovo · 27/04/2023 11:08

I really enjoyed this week’s episode apart from the Keeley/Jack subplot, which is boring. Lots of football content and funny moments (dicks tied together and Roy’s continued commitment to this had me howling) but I am similarly worried to @tribpot that Ted is going to leave and Nate will take over as manager. There’s got to be some sort of arc for him but I’m more invested in everyone else.

memoriesofamiga · 27/04/2023 16:33

I enjoyed this week's episode except for the Keeley storyline (which continues to be boring), and Nate's obsession with the girl in the Greek restaurant is problematic for me. He has been hanging around trying to get her to notice him (bordering on stalkerish) since the beginning and the underlying message is that if you hound a woman enough she will eventually notice you and start dating you. Sorry I'm finding that makes me uncomfortable.

The training sections were fun, especially the look on Roy's face when he thought Jamie's cock had been pulled off (and his look of disappointment when he realised it wasn't!).

memoriesofamiga · 27/04/2023 16:35

Oh and I HATED the ending of Scrubs, it was like drowning in sugar it was so saccharine. But I might be alone in that sentiment it seems. 😂

CaptainBatEars · 27/04/2023 21:08

We've now caught up and I think it's coming together more as we have got past the midway point of the series. There have been some laugh out loud and some really emotional scenes in the last couple of episodes in particular. Sam and his father were just lovely and the Jamie/Roy bike riding had us in stitches. On that basis I'm still hopeful they'll pull things round by the end of the series but I know I might just be overly optimistic.

I did love the pictures of the Ted, Beard and Trent actors at the actual Etihad with Noel Gallagher last weekend. V funny.

To be fair they could play song over a montage of Peppa Pig and I’d still well up!

GandhiDeclaredWarOnYou · 28/04/2023 16:52

OMG, Brett Goldstein is responsible for the delught that is Shrinking? WOW! I loved that.

I have a crush on both the growling alpha male Roy and the gay and splendid Trent. And a bit on Rebecca.

Underminer · 28/04/2023 23:58

Another episode and I’m still not interesting in Kailey and her business/love life. It’s cliched and boring.
