BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2023 11:46

may contain spoilers from seasons 1 & 2

Anyone watch Ted Lasso? I absoloutley love it, and am rewatching it ahead of season 3 coming out later this month.

But aside from me and DH, no one I know watches it!!

I'm hoping we see Nate come back into the fold (Diamond Dogs woof!), and make ammends.

This Keeley storyline is such a waste of every minute it is onscreen

Southeastdweller · 12/04/2023 20:10

I just can’t get into that story with Keeley, it feels extraneous to everything.

vestanesta · 12/04/2023 21:02

Yes. Way too much time on Keeley, Shandy was shite, the thing with the boss lady was sign posted with big red signs, no subtlety. One of the things I always loved was Rebecca/Keeley's friendship. Pah. Not impressed

This one felt pretty flat overall although I liked Nathan, Roy's method of dealing with bullies and Teds motivational bit at the end. Much preferred the last couple.

Fancysauce · 12/04/2023 22:12

I feel like this series has definitely lost its sparkle. None of the episodes really feel like i must rewatch them. Every character is all depressed, nothing positive is happening. The whole keeley thing is DULL and that Jack woman - could see it coming a mile off but that character has no personality. At all.

Exactly this. I'm waiting for the big energy like previous seasons but nothing this season yet.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/04/2023 22:34

Starting to wonder if they have made it shit deliberately so as to lose the pressure to carry it on

memoriesofamiga · 12/04/2023 23:07

I dont care about Keeley and I don't care about Nate and his weird obsession with that poor waitress in the Greek restaurant either.

Bit of a dull episode this one.

RoyFuckingKent · 12/04/2023 23:35

I enjoyed it.
The Nate storyline is clearly his path to redemption. He’s realising he had it all to start with and the spark with Jade has been there since season one.

I really wanted Roy and Keeley back together to end this but I don’t see it happening, unless Keeley is just spiralling. Glad Shandy has gone though.

It’s just a filler episode I feel. The club and everyone connected have hot the bottom, now it’s time to rise.
Danny Rojas absolutely stole all the locker room scenes again though😂

Underminer · 13/04/2023 00:53

Losing interest fast in a lot of the characters. Keeley’s thing with Jack is unnecessary. I don’t care about her business, Bantr, the character is dull away from Rebecca and the club. It takes up too much screen time when footballer story arcs are more interesting.
always thought Jade was rude, don’t want to see more of her.
The lamb on the table when it could easily have broken its leg jumping down was awful.
there are some good things, flashes of the TL we know, but losing patience. Next week’s episode better be more interesting.

42isthemeaning · 13/04/2023 00:58

Poor wee Dani's face in that locker room!

We’ve been watching Shrinking on Apple TV whilst we’re waiting for the new Ted - it’s produced and written by the Roy Kent actor and we’re really enjoying it! Humour is very similar and well worth a watch.

This has just blown my brains!
Thank you

The only good thing about the Keeley storyline is Katy Wix as Barbara.

thebellagio · 13/04/2023 07:29

That was such a filler episode. You could have taken the entire keeley storyline out and not missed anything. I really don’t care about her and her business

tribpot · 13/04/2023 07:49

It really does seem to have lost its way. The Keeley-shags-women storyline is so predictable and cliched, I can think of multiple shows where an attractive woman discovers she fancies women (or at least a specific woman) but none where this kind of sidebar plot is about a man?

They're obviously signalling quite hard as well that Ted is going to go back to the US for Henry's sake at the end of this season, presumably Beard goes with him and Roy becomes the manager.

What on earth was the point of Zava? Why have Ted and Beard suddenly lost the ability to coach football completely?

At the moment it feels as if the programme makers got high on the success of the first two series and thought they could slap this one together without too much effort.

Southeastdweller · 13/04/2023 08:41

I feel like there's not enough of Ted in this season. Maybe Jason Sudeikis was busy with other projects.

Agree with the 'We can't be arsed because it's the final season' vibe.

thebellagio · 13/04/2023 09:00

the big problem is it doent seem like it's heading in a clear direction, and some of it is weird writing aimed at american audiences. For example, when they were getting in a tizz about the papers suggesting that they would be bottom of the league in episode one. So? The promoted team is ALWAYS the odds-on favourite to go down. It really doesn't matter what the papers think? And rebecca would know that....

Then they kept showing the league table and my husband kept being too logical saying "but they are ninth in the premiier league, how is that a bad thing?" I assume that they have a league of 10 teams, hence it being an issue. But it causes issues when you're taking things from real life (real league, real teams), but not applying all of it.

I agree, Ted and Beard will definitely head back to the US, while Roy takes over. Nate will also be redeemed somehow.

escapingthecity · 13/04/2023 09:15

Total filler episode. I'm glad Zava is gone - every time it felt like the locker room dynamic might get more interesting and Jamie step up it went nowhere. Glad Shandy is gone too - cheap laughs but a distraction from the main cast. Get Keeley and Roy back together, ditch President Wilson from
For All Mankind with her weird wandering accent and focus on the club again.

thebellagio · 13/04/2023 09:22

Shandy added absolutely nothing. Neither did Zava to be honest. Like @escapingthecity I was expecting Jamie to step up and become the main man. I was also expecting them to immediately win without him to show that a team is about eleven men, not one man.

I also find it odd how contractually he could just decide to walk away. like WTF? I know its a comedy and not real. But FFS, have a little bit of realism!

thebellagio · 13/04/2023 09:23

I think the real problem with Ted Lasso is that series one was soooo good. Series two far too hit and miss. And this one also seems to be hit and miss

Yes to both of these statements!

GennyGennyGenny · 13/04/2023 13:16

I hated Zara. Was he supposed to be funny?

Agree with this, but also wonder if it's the problem many series face with 10+ episodes. Think there is something to be said for short 5-6 episode series..

The strange thing is that I thought they always said there was a three season arc. So you would have thought the storytelling would be on point with no filler.

escapingthecity · 13/04/2023 15:23

@covetingthepreciousthings the episodes have got longer. I think they were 30-40 mins in the first season and they're up to 40-50 mins now. Streaming services do this because they're not so bound by what else is on TV and it makes the storytelling significantly worse imo. If you have a 30 minute slot it drives discipline in storytelling and scriptwriting. I'm thinking of Game of Thrones where the running times were different for every episode in the last few series and they were much worse than in the early seasons which kept to a strict length.

tribpot · 13/04/2023 15:26

Yep, they could be forgiven for the two blatantly filler episodes in season 2 because Apple ordered two extra after they'd written the scripts, so they had to be shoehorned in. This time they knew it was 10 from the start but just don't seem to have enough material. Which is weird, because there are loads of characters we've hardly got to know - Danny Rojas has had one storyline (killed a dog), Zoreaux has basically had none (being told by Zava to change his name doesn't really count), the hilariously rude Dutchman zero, Colin they are hinting at, Isaac zero. Then there are the pub fans and Mae, Higgins can always do more as well.
