BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2023 11:46

may contain spoilers from seasons 1 & 2

Anyone watch Ted Lasso? I absoloutley love it, and am rewatching it ahead of season 3 coming out later this month.

But aside from me and DH, no one I know watches it!!

I'm hoping we see Nate come back into the fold (Diamond Dogs woof!), and make ammends.

i really like Ted Lasso (i don’t love it) and agree about the magnificent HW. i’ve seen her on stage and have met her very briefly once through work (pre Ted Lasso days) and was pretty starstruck then. she’s fab

i HATE what they have done to Keeley’s character this season. it’s sooooo wet and unfeminist! hated the lame lesbian storyline (which seemed purely to give some viewers a kick) plus when is getting involved with your boss/investor ever going to be a good idea? but all is ok now because a) she’s back with her boyfriend and b) her rich best friend has chucked some cash at her business. how about Keeley starts from the bottom and works her way up to a successful business ON HER OWN.

ExcaliburBaby · 24/05/2023 09:42

also don’t get me started on how it was seemingly ok (bar a few “you need to
move on” comments from Rebecca) for Ted to hire someone to follow his ex in Paris!!!! stalker much. actually this show is quite problematic when it comes to women the more i think about it

mrstea301 · 24/05/2023 09:54

Thank you so much @edwinatheelephant and @SynchOrSwim !!!

thebellagio · 24/05/2023 10:01

The bit that I didn't understand was why Keeley needed VC funding in the first place.

I work in freelance PR. You literally just need a laptop and a phone to get on with things. My initial set up costs were less than £2k to set up my website/domain/branding

So what the heck was she doing with the money?? Because it was never clear what all the staff were doing, when they only had one client, Bantr

Yes bizarrely this series is awful for women. I got the symbolism of Rebecca with the loose hair and floaty dress but why? Her clothes were sensational, I mean ok the heels must have been killers but she look so stunning which is rare for women over a certain age on TV. I was quite pissy that they stripped her of all that strength and sexiness just to prove she'd 'moved on'

Yes, that was strange - like they changed her wardrobe as some sort of character growth. She's now in floaty feminine dresses, so that means she has healed...or something. Weird.

Anyone seen this weeks yet?

Seemed a bit stuffed full like it was desperately trying to close it all out.

I liked:
Jamie's mum and the fact Roy quite fancied her
Beards back story
Van Damme!
A lot more Ted
Fat bottomed girls and Kenneth the bus driver.
Ephron on 3

I disliked:
Too much Ted too late
Nate's easy return
Teds mum just seemed a bit unnecessary although I guess there was some closure

I am confused by:

Are Roy and Keeley together or not?

memoriesofamiga · 24/05/2023 21:57

I see it as Roy and Keeley are not together as such. She could have a good threesome thing going with him and Jamie though (can't say I would blame her if she did!)

Prediction which is fairly obvious by this point - Ted is going back to the US having won the premier league on the last game. Nate will take over. I'm going to assume Beard will go home with Ted.

Sneaky cameo by Pep Guardiola. He forgot to mention when telling Ted its all about the players that having huge sums of money helps win leagues though. 😉

MarciaSaysANumber · 24/05/2023 22:01

There did seem to be some discontinuity with the last time we saw Roy at Keeley’s house.

I dunno - it was saccharine and schmaltzy in the extreme, but I still almost cried at some points.

Still in love with the magnificent Coach Beard - but we could take Jamie home with us and nurture him with infinite kindness.

Longing to see what disaster is brewing at West Ham …

tribpot · 24/05/2023 22:15

Agreed. Funny know why we ended on the 'cliffhanger' when Ted's departure has been telegraphed since the start of the series. Really annoyed by the cop-out redemption story for Nate. How is what Beard did to Ted remotely comparable? Why do the players all want him back? It makes no sense.

I am, however, very interested to see the outcome of Rebecca, Bex and ? the new mistress. I hope we will see a 'full circle' moment with Bex forcing Rupert out and owning West Ham herself.

Surely they're not going to win the league, Ted's parting message is that as long as they stick together that's all that counts (and probably some nauseating reference to how Nate will get them there next season).

What had DH & I cackling in that ep was Pep Guardiola being a terribly good sport at the end of losing a crunch game. As if!

Netaporter · 24/05/2023 22:36

Just watched today’s extra long episode. Loved it save for the weird Oedipus relationship Jamie and his mum seem to have and I love Leanne Best as an actress. That was a bit strange…

Last ep next week. Tissues needed I reckon 😭

that’s a pretty good summary of how we feel here too, vestanesta. And i also v much like tribpot’s suggestion of Bex prising W Ham from Rupert’s slimy hands.

I love Roy calling the replacement Indy reporter ’better Trent’ and the old Roy poster on Jamie’s bedroom wall cracked me up. I will miss this show when it’s finished.

thebellagio · 24/05/2023 22:54

That episode made me so mad.

it was funny. It was emotional. It was story driven with character development. It had heart. It was everything that this whole series had been lacking.

why the fuck have they waited till now?????

highlights were definitely seeing Jamie so emotional about his relationship with his dad. Surely there’s relatively few examples of such great character development than Jamie Tartt? Phil dunster deserves an Emmy at least for this performance. He conveys so much in just a look or a raise of an eyebrow.

loved seeing the posters of Roy and Keeley. Roy was absolutely Alan Rickman as the sheriff of Nottingham

love Higgins so much. His refusal to move during the match had me howling. As did the team mates reactions to van dammes face mask - and Dani’s funny smiley grin!

I suspect a reunion between Rebecca and Sam.

clearly Ted will go back to America with Coach once they win the league

also Rebecca will help bex take over West Ham.

I just don’t like the Nate storyline. Why would the players want him to come back? Especially winning 15 games in a row, clearly they don’t need him…

the redemption just seems so random and forced. It’s come out of no where really, especially as it was only two episodes that Nate was texting Rupert to say “don’t let Ted back in” so it’s not like it’s been a season of Nate regretting it.

ExhaustedPigwidgeon · 24/05/2023 23:38

If there’s one thing the show does of late it’s avoid awkward conversations. We managed to have a long drawn out scene with them all deleting dirty videos but we can’t see them discussing Nate and that they all want him back? Last time the team as a whole thought about him they were furious to find out he tore down their sign but cos the storyline needs him back they all love him.

don’t believe it. The team has moved on. Nate is not a good coach - he doesn’t lift up and inspire people.

TyneTeas · 25/05/2023 00:02

I've never literally thought about work a second after after leaving work or even while there really

TyneTeas · 25/05/2023 00:05

And i thought Jamie's childhood bedroom was very well done

notforonesecond · 25/05/2023 08:39

At this point, if Roy and Keeley get back together without Jamie being part of it it won’t make any bloody sense. Just be a weird little throuple and be done with it.

Jamie with his mum was such a highlight though. Really good stuff.

escapingthecity · 25/05/2023 15:48

Who were the two women who turned up at Rebecca's house?

A lot of heart in parts but I agree the rest of the series needed a lot more. Nate's storyline suddenly feels rushed.

Netaporter · 25/05/2023 16:03

@escapingthecity Rupert’s gf (who he cheated on Rebecca with) and I assume the one before her or maybe her lawyer?

Farmageddon · 25/05/2023 16:08

The other woman was his assistant, it was hinted at previously that he was sleeping with her also. Basically the woman he's cheating on (new) Rebecca with.
I kinda feel like Rupert is the archetypal bad guy who is totally one dimensional, whereas everyone else in the series is allowed to be flawed, but still also portrayed as human and remorseful, and therefore gets redeemed (i.e. Nate and to a certain extent Jamie).

Ruperts current girlfriend (wife?) and the assistant from West Ham that Rebecca suspected he was having an affair with.

musicalold · 26/05/2023 16:03

What was the situation with Jamie's dad? I'm not sure if I missed something in a previous episode about something having happened to him. The people in the stands talked about him in the past tense and then there was a shot of a man who had maybe had a stroke or something sitting watching the football in what was possibly a residential home?

I loved this weeks episode. It really made me weep. Jamie is just fabulous.

tribpot · 26/05/2023 16:16

It looked to me as if Jamie's dad is in rehab or something? He looks unrecognisable from the shambolic drunk we saw in season 2. I wonder if his mates actually think he is dead?

thebellagio · 26/05/2023 16:40

Yeah we thought he was dead the way the two lads raised a drink to him. I think we were supposed to assume he was in rehab clearing up his act and he was now proud of his son
