BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2023 11:46

may contain spoilers from seasons 1 & 2

Anyone watch Ted Lasso? I absoloutley love it, and am rewatching it ahead of season 3 coming out later this month.

But aside from me and DH, no one I know watches it!!

I'm hoping we see Nate come back into the fold (Diamond Dogs woof!), and make ammends.

Do you know what else I miss. Ted bringing Rebecca her shortbread.

I've seen it at least twice & certainly this week

There was a football reference right at the start (with Jeff Stelling cameo) - I think it said Richmond had won their last 4 games.

That was the clue that there’d be no more football in the episode. I like the football bits and it’s just missing from this series. I feel like the writers are just a bunch of mates having fun now - and that doesn’t make a good tv show

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 04/05/2023 16:52

Loved seasons 1&2 but I've been so disappointed with this season. It's moved so far away from the original concept that's is practically a different show.
We watch it as a family with teenage DS and used to laugh out loud so many times. There were always the odd cringey / embarrassing bits but I felt like last night episode was entirely cringe and not what I want to watch sitting next to my 18 year old DS!

Ted looking miserable as fuck every episode isn't helping

Agreed

escapingthecity · 04/05/2023 17:42

They're clearly starting to wind things up.
Dr Jake clearly didn't propose and Ted is miserable so he's going to go back to the US.
Hopefully Jack is now disposed of so Keeley can get back together with Roy.
Isaac now knows about Colin and as more people know it'll become harder to keep the secret.
Now that Nate is happy with the waitress the way is clear for him to realise how unpleasant Rupert is. He's clearly missing some aspects of Richmond.
I did like the locker room scene when they talked about nudes - that is never ever how a group of footballers would talk but it was very funny. TL is always at its best when it focusses on the club and the team.

notforonesecond · 04/05/2023 20:10

The only character they’ve put any love into this season is Jamie. And I do bloody love the dozy twat so I can’t fault them there.

Everyone else is just floundering about. Not a clue how they’re going to wrap this up without a coherent arc to the season as a whole.

I want to care about Nate but I just don’t.

I want to root for Keely & Roy but Roy’s only bearable when he’s with Jamie and Juno Temple looks so thin I just find myself grimacing through Keely’s scenes.

I want Ted to cheer the fuck up but we don’t seem to be making any progress there.

I’m frustrated.

Thank god for Jamie and his big, sweet, vacant eyes and floppy, floppy hair.

Give Phil Dunster the Emmy nom and be done with it.

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 04/05/2023 21:14

I agree with all of that @notforonesecond

thebellagio · 04/05/2023 21:16

I love Jamie so much

Mangomingo · 04/05/2023 22:05

Juno Temple just looks absolutely wizened. When she had the mini skirt and pink bow in her hair she looked about 80. It’s just super distracting. I do hope she’s OK.

Bellagio40 · 05/05/2023 04:57

So disappointed in this season. It’s a shadow of what it was

vestanesta · 05/05/2023 07:43

Well on the plus side hopefully we've seen the back of Jack. Jamie continues to be a legend and I enjoyed the locker room scene about deleting the photos.

I did also enjoy Trent becoming a diamond dog and the love hound scene (I like Disco!)

But jeez it was mostly dull. Like a pp said, the scene with Keeley and Rebecca showed a lot of what has been lacking this season. But even then it couldn't just be about one friend caring about another, it had to reference Keeleys relationship.

Any my beloved Roy seems to only function as part of a pair this season. He grumbles around shouting fuck but unless he's with Jamie he has no real purpose. Dd is watching it with me for the first time and annoyingly won't go back and watch the first seasons. She is genuinely puzzled by my Roy love.

escapingthecity · 05/05/2023 12:45

@Mangomingo even DH notices it. Every time she appears on screen he says "she looks so unwell"

I thought exactly the same, plus she seems to be an odd colour so I really do hope she's ok.

HalleLouja · 06/05/2023 10:21

I love Jamie. He makes the show, especially with Roy. Roy should have shut up before asking who it was for. Its a shame they ditched Phoebe and the Yoga mums.

Its obvious that Ted will go back to the USA and they will do some spin off without him….

Apparently the actor who plays Nate was lonely filming it without all his buddies.

thebellagio · 06/05/2023 10:37

I'm not surprised Nick Mohammed was lonely. There's been literally no interaction between him or anyone else. It begs the question why didn't they either a) make a big deal of the rivalry or b) write him out entirely.

When he popped up this week, I'd actually forgotten all about him. The whole storyline seems to be in no mans land

Underminer · 06/05/2023 20:54

It seems like on of those shows where the writers get so carried away with their own hype they lose the essence of what makes it a great show.
Some fantastic characters to explore, and instead we get Keeley’s full storyline and weird Nate the stalker with the woman who always looked sneery at him.
They needed some editors who could really bring back the greatness of the show.

tribpot · 06/05/2023 21:07

Agreed. You would say it had become formulaic, except they aren't using the Ted Lasso formula. I was wondering if we were ever going to return to the subject of Ted's mental health. There have been hints of panic attacks but no further mention of the back story with his dad.

tribpot · 10/05/2023 17:29

A better episode this week, thanks to the lack of Jack and minimal Keeley, Roy doing his Roy thing properly. I could have done without all the 'rehabilitate Nate' stuff - oh wow, he finally starts to realise what a prick Rupert is, yadda yadda. And more Leslie, always good.

Colin's coming out was predictably warm and cuddly; not hard to guess that Isaac was only upset that Colin hadn't told him sooner. Ted back to cracking crap jokes on his parents' evening call was a relief, too.

But still - only 3 episodes left.

BridgetRandomfuck · 10/05/2023 20:07

I’m worried they’re going for full Nate rehab and he will take over managing Richmond when Ted leaves. I don’t think the character has earned it, even though they’ve now given him the worlds most poorly written female character as a girlfriend. Thank Christ they’ve stopped the spitting thing 🤮

tribpot · 10/05/2023 20:59

It does feel like that, doesn't it @BridgetRandomfuck ? Quite agree, Nate's had no story arc this season that suggests we should all just welcome him back. Poor girlfriend is doing her best when all she's been given is several episodes of no facial expression and then several episodes of simpering lovebird.

notforonesecond · 10/05/2023 21:07

Glad Roy got a kick up the arse from Rebecca this week. Been dying for someone to tell him to pull himself together. It was nice to see a break in the growling nonsense and see a glimpse of the season 2 character who made you love him.

Still think there’s not enough time left for a satisfying resolution to the season though. They’ve left themselves a lot to do wasting all that time on Keeley’s dreadful storyline.

The Nate stuff feels like filler too. Oh wow, Rupert’s a sleezy arsehole. What a shocker.

Jamie’s arms in that one scene did make up for quite a lot though.

SynchOrSwim · 10/05/2023 21:51

Only just seen this Ted Lasso thread!

I liked Jade's reaction to Rupert, she's having precisely none of his shit!

Does anyone at all see Ted and Rebecca getting together? As I hadn't realised there was a Ted thread on here I'd previously been looking up what people were saying about it on Twitter and there is a huge group of people who are absolutely desperate for them to end up together! I don't get sexy vibes from them at all!!

Agree with two previous posters that Katy Wix as Barbara is great. She played my fave ghost in Ghosts 😊

tribpot · 10/05/2023 21:59

Last season towards the end it seemed they were hinting at a Ted-Rebecca romance, but there's been no indication of it whatsoever this season, and given the massive hints that Ted will return to the US, it seems pretty unlikely now.

Btw just noticed Nick Mohammed on Twitter having to remind people Nate is a fictional character and he doesn't write the show 🙄God, what are people like. Anyway, his view is that Nate has not done enough to redeem himself but that leaving Rupert in the club was a good first step.

thebellagio · 10/05/2023 22:21

To me that episode was Ted Lasso at its finest.

rebecca being a boss
higgins!
roy showing his human side
ted telling jokes/silly stories
beard being beard
the stunning writing for Colin
and even better - no boring Keely work stuff

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/05/2023 22:41

Back on form tonight.

Boss Ass Bitch, a bit of genuine warmth from Roy, a classic Ted monologue, Higgins and mini-Higgins (the kit boy), and Hopefully Nate on the turn from his boss
