My post about Neckbeard/Joanna and domestic abuse was clumsily worded, and I apologise unreservedly if it triggered anyone. I know we've seen him abuse her, but I was wondering if we'd learn more about their relationship than we've already seen. Thinking about possible twists and turns in the storyline.

Definitely not an attempt by me to minimise DV or suggest any kind of victim-blaming.

Sorry if that was what came across. Flowers

I looked at that scene again. She put tablets in the bedside cabinet and then changed her mind and put them in her trouser pocket. He was wild with her and the main row was about the fact that he could tell she was 'on something' and was shouting that they thought she'd come off them and where was she getting them from and she was (lying) shouting that she wasn't. He yanked her trousers off and got the tablets out of the pocket. I cannot tell if he had other thoughts. He certainly said that she wasn't even worth fucking. I cannot tell how many things Jo feared when he was pulling the trousers off - being hit, being raped, being held down with his arm across her throat, that he would find the pills, that he might find out who the supplier was, and that she'd been sleeping with Faisal, all of those things? As with umpteen scenes, there can be so much going on. I do find it useful to replay lots of things because I don't always 'see' everything first time.
Now I'm going to google Alun Armstong's son - thank you, whoever said that's who played Ashley.

Armst r ong

As Rob groomed Joanna when she was just starting her A levels, I think that explains any mental health issues she might have been experiencing that she tried to self medicate with diazepam (and her desperation leading her to try and blackmail Faisal into setting her up with a flat). He’s almost convincing, but the viewer is privy to how he abuses her in private, so we know he’s a Bad ‘Un. Take those scenes away and you might just think he’s a bit of an exasperated dickhead.
It’s interesting to contrast him with TLR. They both hate women, they both abuse them if they can. But only one of them is “pretty” and that’s the character who is in danger of becoming a bit of a folk hero.

Runs in to ask

What's all the alien references?

Is it going to be significant?

Maybe Tommy will be teleported to a spaceship whilst on't run.

I think it's just a silly side story line. SW often has a bit of humour and silliness in amongst the tension.

Is it nearly time yet, is it??

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 29/01/2023 16:18

The alien references are because of a 'real life' alien event when a policeman thought he saw such a thing on 't'moor at Todmorden a few years back, he was laughed at and left the force. A young PC volunteered to for a task force as he has an interest in this.

verdantverdure · 29/01/2023 16:30

Isn't Catherine's ringtone a bit spooky sounding? And didn't she tell CID there had been loads of sightings of "lights" up at Gary Gakowsky's body?

I dunno, I'd just got it into my head that it meant summat. Grin

They're going to use drones to spell out Ow Do over t'moors 🛸👽

And this ^ is the sort of superior knowledge that justifies all the hours wasted on other, inferior threads.Grin

<nods in agreement>

Saucery · 29/01/2023 17:18
Grin

Could drones have been used to keep people away from the body? Wouldn’t have been convenient to have it discovered, or discovered too soon?

TokyoSushi · 29/01/2023 17:19

I saw somewhere earlier that Ros makes a comeback tonight...

Emotionalsupportviper · 29/01/2023 17:22

Will lovely but slightly unhinged pharmacist get found out?

He's a brutal, cunning, cold-blooded killer - neither "lovely" not "slightly unhinged"

He may have seemed charmingly clumsy and somewhat hen-pecked - but when he got a chance he KILLED a desperate mother of two children who was trapped in an abusive relationship. He hid her body in a way that will compromise her husband (not that Neckbeard doesn't deserve it, but even so . . . ). He has left two little girls without their mother and taunted their father following a bump in their cars.

I have to disagree with your description of this one.

TokyoSushi · 29/01/2023 17:25

Does anybody else feel like there's too much to tie up for just 2 episodes?

verdantverdure · 29/01/2023 17:27

I very much agree that Faisal's not lovely!

He's a drug dealing criminal getting sex off a vulnerable abused young woman in return for drugs.

And he knows where Huddersfield's red light district is.

He's not very nice to his wife and daughters either, is he?

Although they do seem happy and normal and you know, take their coats off.

For us lot with over active imaginations yes Grin

LadyEloise1 · 29/01/2023 17:37

Listened to the "Shrine of " podcast on the last episode.
It was reassuring that I hadn't missed out on anything. 😀

AntonDuPig · 29/01/2023 17:37

<Gets all twitchy>

How is it only just gone half past five!!

TrentCrimm · 29/01/2023 17:44

Yay! It's Sunday!

I've had to to catch up this week as we were on holiday last week. When we realised we would miss an episode, DH and I looked at each other and genuinely had a so... do we still go? moment 😂

I'm on a 24 hour shift next Sunday home Monday morning. I'll have to watch on catch up Monday. I won't have the radio on going home just in case of spoilers.

I think 3 is a teenager in cost years.

I agree.

I have a coat that I bought in a C&A sale and I still wear it - it is a bright red swing coat (so still fits me even though I am twice as wide as i was) with a black velvet collar and cuffs, pure new wool and is beautiful.

It must be about 25 years old. I love it.

You are forgiven. Sometimes it's hard to judge who the written word will come across.
