How old are you?

Old. Really old.

But even when I was young and swanning around Sloane Street I was always horrified by shop assistants who tried to coax me to buy something by saying such and such celebrity had been seen in it.

But I guess everyone’s different?

XanaduKira · 22/01/2023 09:55

Could we stick to discussing the show? I'm not sure why but these threads seem to be quite nasty at times to various posters and it would be great if we could avoid that. Each to their own and all that.

I'd never wear anything because someone had worn it. I think pp meant they just liked them?
I'm old too and go more for what suits me. Plus tend to wear hiking wear as usually out and about when I can.

You're right we should go on style and beauty when discussing James Norton's shirt.

CorporateBull · 22/01/2023 09:58

The fact that so many posters think he didn’t rape Becky despite the fact that we know he is a brutal, amoral, manipulative rapist and murderer perhaps demonstrates why our conviction stats are so low.

The evidence that he didn’t is that he says he didn’t (and we have seen him deny his other crimes repeatedly) and that the victim’s brother, a teenager at the time, saw his sister enjoying spending time with him.

Greatly · 22/01/2023 10:18

I loved James Nortons lilac cardi too.

This thread is living proof that mumsnetters can get snarky over absolutely anything 😄

Quite agree.

Becky may well have been hanging around with him, obsessed, making moves but she could still have been raped. We know what TLR is like, it would be entirely in character for him to be fairly dismissive of Becky when she was following him around, to perhaps enjoy the adoration and then at some point something changes and he gets violent. We have seen it before.

It is also in character for him to rewrite history and claim that he loved Becky and wants a relationship with Ryan but he's a psychopath and a narcissist he doesn't love people he uses them.

Are you having injections in your stomach? I tried to PM you but couldn't?

Not sure why you can’t pm as I have had others

and usually yes have to jab - but this time as can’t move hospital has given me a daily tablet that does the same thing

@flagpole I said the same thing previously - Neil might be Tommys dad

and that maybe tommy didn’t rape Becky - but got shot down lol

agree would mean the programme which is based on that /the rape and hate of him may have all been for nothing

def seems to be hinted in s1&2 that it may be in Catherine’s mind that he did - Becky said she was raped - but equally Tommy said/thinks been in a relationship

tho he’s also a nutter

MaureenSowerbuttsCardi · 22/01/2023 10:31

How can they be so sure TLR is Ryan's dad? Was a dna test done? Or do we just have to accept that he is for the story to work?

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/01/2023 10:33

I did say about dna and any proof that tommy was def Ryan's dad

CuriousMama · 22/01/2023 10:46

@Blondeshavemorefun thanks glad to hear that

Thanks for putting my thoughts into words! Its all getting a bit unpleasant.

And as an aside - it’s not Line of Duty! We tend to know who the bad guys are already. Nevison, Joyce, Neil are just who they are - well written characters, not OCG members.

CuriousMama · 22/01/2023 10:51

@Blondeshavemorefun managed to PM you.

I have literally just thought that surely Sally will sort out every loose end on the next three eps else there'll be room for season four which she said won't happen so maybe TLR will meet his untimely demise and Ryan will be okay and cc will realise her passport needs renewing and she can't go to the Himalayas.

Also James Norton lilac cardigan that he wore on Graham Norton. Can't find it anywhere on the www. Literally want to buy it. Literally as in desperately, quite honestly.

I'm worried about you.

Someone once told me it's sign of old age if you look at a fit bloke and think "Mmm, yeah! Nice cardie!"

😆

Nasty?

Where is "nasty"? Have I missed it?

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/01/2023 10:58

I don't think there has ever been any proof that TLR is Ryan's father, no, to pp who asked.

Sally W is asking us to believe Catherine on this along with the rape of Becky.

I don't know what I think now. I suppose I will be annoyed if there is a twist and either is proved not to be true. Because, as others have said, it is the foundation of the series.

But then ... maybe not. Am slightly on the fence!

It could still have been a brutal rape within a relationship.

However we know TLR is a manipulative, violent psychopath who lies and rewrites history. He claims to love Ryan but poured petrol on him in an attempt to murder a small child in a horrific and painful way.

He claimed to love his mother and to be devastated by her murder but we saw him treat her dreadfully and be violent towards her.

It is entirely in character for him to have brutally raped Becky whether they were in a relationship or not. It is in character for him to have rewritten history on that point.

Becky told her Mother it was rape. She killed herself due to the distress. We have no reason to disbelieve her about something so important to her and her baby.

I enjoy reading this thread for all your theories and noticing things that completely bypass me.
I also started Last Tango in Halifax which I'm really enjoying so thanks to whoever recommended that.
Counting down until 9pm.

Is Last Tango on the iplayer?

No it doesn’t. It demonstrates that people are reacting to a deliberate ambiguity at the centre of this story. Stop creating an Aunt Sally so you can go off on your hobby horse (mixing metaphors and all there) dully and pompously lecturing the rest of us.

Absolutely this. We have seen him again and again abuse people he claims to love: it’s entirely in his character to say he didn’t rape Becky.

You see ambiguity, others see an established pattern of behaviour in the central villain that means he isn’t trustworthy. The only remote ambiguity that could exist is Daniel’s outside view of events. Becky told her mother she’d been brutally raped by TLR.

rosegoldwatcher · 22/01/2023 11:31

@XanaduKira - Also wouldn't be surprised if he's involved in some dodgy dealings due to where he works.

That's what I suggested in the last thread. Neil isn't a bad man but is very weak and would be easily manipulated by dodgy bosses in order to keep his job, IMO.
