Ooh I'm grouchy this morning 😫
I did NOT know SW had also written At Home With the Braithwaites, I loved it.

It's even better as an adult! I was FOURTEEN when it came out and I loved Virginia so, so much

I wonder if poor Ann is going to come face to face with TLR in her police officer capacity when he inevitably escapes? There's been a lot of focus on her struggling with what happened to her.

Yes. There would have been absolutely no point in making Ann a policewoman (or indeed keeping her in the show, when, as the daughter of a rich man she could have left to live anywhere in the world) unless she is due to encounter her attacker in her new role.

PrincessScarlett · 21/01/2023 16:47

I'm already worrying for Ann 😬

I think SW has played a blinder keeping TLR low key for first 3 episodes. It's made us all forget what a complete psychopath he is. I reckon all hell is going to break loose from episode 4 onwards.

Oral Liquid morphine via mouth is def not as strong as injection morphine !!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 16:57

I think for me he's always denied taking Becky - yes we know he rapes - like Ann

But he beleive Becky and him in love if you rewatch s1&2

He was shocked to know she died

Tho equally she dies 6w after giving birth

If they were in a relationship why didn't she see him in prison - he know that she was preg etx

You can tell I've been pondering why just sitting here

And yes NOWAY you would allow a child Ryan's age to walk home alone knowing the perv was out there

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 16:57

Raping not taking

Ulysses · 21/01/2023 17:20

Tommy’s denied lots of things. He might have loved her, he might love Ryan but there’s no redemption arc for someone so abhorrent as TLR. Him not raping Becky doesn’t hold any water at all and contributes nothing to the storyline. He’s an absolute psychopath, not a tragically misunderstood boyfriend.

EsmaCannonball · 21/01/2023 17:23

TLR kidnapped Ann, beat her, injected her with heroin, repeatedly raped her and was planning on murdering her when he'd done; and yet he still stroked her face and confided in her about finding out he had a son as if he were talking to a beloved girlfriend in bed. He was going to burn Ryan alive so they could be together in death, and to cause misery to Catherine. TLR saying he loved Becky and seeming nonplussed at the accusation of raping her needs to seen in the context of his very twisted perception of personal relationships.

storminabuttercup · 21/01/2023 17:24

I suspect TLR is one of those men who thinks he had a right to do what the hell he liked to Becky as she was 'his' he won't see it as rape, but it was.
I'm going to stop commenting on that particular subject now as it's making my thumbs angry

Threadkillacilla · 21/01/2023 17:29

Clocking in. What if TLR is the one killed in an escape attempt but by Anne!

JaneJeffer · 21/01/2023 17:32

Nobody thinks he's a good person but it's interesting to speculate on whether he was capable of loving someone and treating them with respect. The behaviour we've seen suggests he is not.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 17:42

@JaneJeffer excatly that.

He seems to have cared for Becky - in his head /mind

We won't ever know

But yes he is a violent psychopath and again rewatching s1&2 you R.E.M. how violent and want a murdering raping shit he is

"Family annihilator" written all over him

Yes - those little buggers always seem to pop off on their hols on the rare occasions I'm incapacitated, too.

EsmaCannonball · 21/01/2023 18:31

I still say that TLR and Ryan are going to end up at Ann and Daniel's house and that Richard is going to die.

If I am wrong I shall spend an entire week dressed like TLR after a visit to a charity shop. I've already got a copy of War and Peace.

Hels20 · 21/01/2023 19:10

To earlier posters - it’s not an obsession as to whether TLR raped Becky - but it is a major part of the story line and explains why Catherine hates TLR so much. But watching it a second time - I am not convinced he did rape Becky and I expect it will remain ambiguous. So - thinking of Catherine’s conflicting feelings toward Ryan - if TLR didn’t rape B, how would C feel? Maybe it doesn’t matter but I feel it has been a big plot point that hasn’t been really tested.
Would CC feel totally sick if she realised TLR didn’t rape Becky and that Ryan was therefore a product of love rather than hate? I think SW is going to end with a powerful point about nature vs nurture. As a mother of 2 adopted children (different biological parents) I am intrigued as to what her message might be.

Hels20 · 21/01/2023 19:16

Ps re-watching series 1…Ryan is a great actor!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 19:26

Indeed @Hels20 You rewatch and reliese things you may have missed or they now seen s3 they not everything is black and white

@LadyEloise1 I had ligament reconstruction and leg in plaster and non weight bearing on it

Lots of pain

@Emotionalsupportviper yes funny how those fairies aren't appreciated ....

XanaduKira · 21/01/2023 19:42

I've rewatched the previous series prior to watching this one. TLR definitely raped Becky and I'm struggling to understand why anyone thinks otherwise?

Looking forward to tomorrow night's episode.
