Regarding the two little daughters: The older one seems completely un-fazed by the PE teacher's treatment of Jo. I did wonder whether Jo might be her step mum. And further, whether Jo was an already pregnant "troubled teen" that PE teacher latched on to (as PP described above is a pattern he is now repeating with Ryan) and took her on as step mum to his daughter, with the promise to bring up Jo's daughter, Poppy, as his own. But he isn't doing so in a good way, because he's cold towards Poppy, and Poppy is clearly scared of him, hence the coat kept on - a subconscious ready to flee/protective instinct, maybe.

I don't agree - I think her way of coping with it is pretending it isn't happening - puts TV on straight away, goes into another room, doesn't speak etc.

I also think her name was mentioned once - was it episode 2? Laura, perhaps? (I may have imagined this)

Why are folk getting worked up about locations not matching up.

It’s make believe.

FrozenTodger · 23/01/2023 15:39

Could Neckbeard have been teaching when Becky was at school? Newly qualified?

SapphosRock · 23/01/2023 15:53

@UrsulaPandress indeed. There isn't even a prison in Sheffield, the closest one is Wakefield I think.

spiderlight · 23/01/2023 16:04

@Emotionalsupportviper - I think it might have been Luna.

@Emotionalsupportviper - I think it might have been Luna.

Thank you Spider - I thought I'd heard her name mentioned but haven't had chance to re-watch and check/

spiderlight · 23/01/2023 16:13

Ignore that, @Emotionalsupportviper - just checked on IMDb and it's Florence, so we were both wrong!

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 16:14

Eldest daughter is called Florence

spiderlight · 23/01/2023 16:14

And it looks as if they're sisters in real life as well - Bethany and Bonnie Stott.

Ridemeginger · 23/01/2023 16:14

The older girl is Florence. The name is used only once - by the school mum friend picking the girls up in episode 1.

GrasstrackGirl · 23/01/2023 16:20

I don't think that the teacher will go down for murder but he will get what he deserves, I don't think in Happy Valley that anyone has gone down for a crime that they didn't commit.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 16:20

I rewatched a bit of episode two and Joanna is telling Faisal about her husbands ' grooming ' techniques:(
It very worrying , but F isn't that interested ( until she mentions him finding her a flat to rent !)
I had forgotten this original exchange

funnelfan · 23/01/2023 16:22

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/01/2023 14:07

he’ll get either arrested or dedded

Are you an MNer Of A Certain Age @funnelfan? - Took me right back to The Goons. 😁

ah, no, that would be my parents. In particular my mum who would drop “he’s fallen in the water!” any time someone entered water on the telly, too much eye rolling from teenage me.

HannaHat · 23/01/2023 16:22

Didn't Jo say though that he did it with the boy students, or have I just presumed because he was honing in on Ryan 🤔

Ridemeginger · 23/01/2023 16:23

In episode 2, Florence doesn't react at all when Rob is hitting Jo in the kitchen, just carries on playing her video game. Not a twitch. When it cuts to Jo and the girls around the table, Jo is crying, Poppy is pushing her food around. Florence again seems unfazed and is eating. She only reacts when Poppy asks Jo why daddy hates her. And then it's more of a curious turn of the head to see Jo's reaction.

I don't believe the girls appear in episode 2.

In episode 4, when Rob returns home with the girls (clearly steaming at having to pick up again), Florence breezes in, straight to the TV. Poppy is hesitant and holding back in the hallway as Rob runs upstairs, before following Rob to the kitchen- instinctively knowing either something is wrong or wary that there's about to be a DV episode. Florence's only reaction is to side eye Rob as he steams past her to get to the kitchen.

Such contrasting reactions. I feel like it's been written like this for a reason. I know kids an bury their feelings in DV households (I know this very well), but the writers/directors seem to be deliberately having Florence show almost none while Poppy is like a mini version of Jo.

He'd have to be 40 minimum I think, which could be the intention but I don't think he's old enough.

Faisal told Ivan that he was being blackmailed by Jo, who was going to tell Rob. He doesn't know what Faisal's done to Jo. They may go to Rob's and eliminate him, thinking they are tidying up loose ends.

What an episode! I too missed Wankertron.

100% great audition for JN as 007.

Yes! Also noted that 007 came up on the phone when Victor was calling Tweedleddum and Tweedledee!

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 23/01/2023 16:28

I'm hoping that TLR falls through the asbestos roof of a disused factory/mill during a tense chase and falls to his death, with it being nobody's fault in particular.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2023 16:34

Yes I noticed 007 on phone

Agree girls are sadly used to violence so ignore it

The dolls make up /blood that was mentioned previously

Is just lipstick around the mouth - not sure it means anything

Watching e6 again s1

And Ryan takes his best friend to boat to see his dad. He's the same one as in s3 cresco or something like that

EsmaCannonball · 23/01/2023 16:44

I'm guessing that the car registration number that Ann failed to pass on will come into play.

I'd also forgotten that Richard is going to interview Darius Knezevic. Meeting at the site of his new development, TLR turns up and something bad happens to Richard?

UrsulaPandress · 23/01/2023 15:33

Worked up? I was merely amused because I recognised a street …

I don’t find it difficult to simultaneously spot Town A masquerading as Town B and at the same time feel swept along by the unfolding narrative. If anything it adds to the enjoyment. Grin

longwayoff · 23/01/2023 16:53

Can someone tell me if TLR, dressed in his escape risk prison gear, would in real life be allowed to change out of it for a sentencing appearance? There's no jury to prejudice, judge has his record in front of him. Seems like begging for trouble.

storminabuttercup · 23/01/2023 17:03

I was surprised he wasn't cuffed.
